  1. DS 11 PANDAS has low IGG 560 ( normal range is 640 - 1330 ) no IVIG at this point. Just checking labs every 3 months and taking zithromax 3 x per week. Also has chronic elevated ASO and dnase B.
  2. My DS 11 came up with his own explanation for pandas when he was 9. He simply told his classmates that it was an aftershock from strep.I thought that was genious!
  3. Hi Laura I just saw this post as I am usually on the pandas forum, but I am so glad you checked into a Pandas diagnosis and I feel you on on the right path. Hope your child is seeing some improvement and I am so happy to spread awareness of this diagnosis.
  4. My Ds 11 main pandas sxymptom was ticcing and slight anxiety. He had a definite strep connection as his strep titers were both elevated. In april 2012 he had a T & A and 3 days after his surgery his symptoms were gone. I am not sure if it was the procedure alone that helped as he did have iv antibiotics and iv steroids during the surgery also. His ENT doctor who did the surgery thinks that his adenoids were the problem and were harboring strep in biofilms. He has remained tic free except for 2 episodes when he was diagnosed with an ear infection. He is currently on zithromax 250 three times a week for strep prevention.
  5. My ds 11 was on augmentin 10 days prioir and 20 days of augmentin post T & A and did great. Pandas symptoms were all gone 3 days after procedure. It's strange how our kids all respond so diferently. I believe my sons infection was strep as his strep antibodies were both high.He is currently on zithromax for strep prevention. Good luck with the procedure. It has been a major factor in my sons healing.
  6. My ds 11 who is a pandas kids also cultured out staph aureus. My pediatrician decided to treat with bactrim but the ent and most of my internet searches said that staph aureus was considered normal oral flora and advised against treating this in the future. My son did go on to have T & A with great results.
  7. Hi Laura my son had sudden onset tics(blinking and eye rolling. He was diagnosed with pandas. Have you looked into this disorder yet? My sons tics have cleared with a tonsilectomy and adenoidectomy and long term antibiotics.
  8. My ds age 11 65 lbs is on a prophylactic dose of zithromax 250 three times a week. I quess if he is doing well it might be worth a trial. I would make sure you have a plan if symptoms start to worsen.
  9. Zinto, I have a son that started having tics quite suddenly. He has been diagnosed with pandas.Im not sure if you are familiar with this disorder but pandas network.org has some good information. My sons tics have disappeared with antibiotics and a t & a.
  10. I grew up on a farm in nebraska and totally get this way of life. Congratulations on your sons returning health!
  11. Just wondering if your son still has his tonsils and adenoids?
  12. My son had the same blinking tics as you. Have you ever researched pandas as a cause for your tics. There is a pandas forum or pandasnetwork.org has some helpful information.
  13. My ds 10 also had tics and kept telling me that whenever he took the probiotic which was culturelle it made his tics worse.I finally listened to him and took him off the probiotic. He has been on long term zithromax without any problems so we just dont use probiotics. I know this is risky but he is doing great and I dont want to rock the boat.
  14. Hi Miss Mom, I looked through Blakes medical records as I know our sons sx are ver similiar.Blake was on keflex for about 3 weeks and this was the only antibiotic that did not work for him. Hopefully your doctor will consider trying another antibiotic as there is no sense in using one that isnt working.Blake continues to take zithromax 250 three x a week with good results.Augmentin was a very sucessful one for us too and what we use for flares.
