Omega 3's

One question, regarding Omega 3's.... I thought I had heard some others talk of them making things worse. But I can't find any past posts. I am wondering if my dd8's recent ramp in issues might be from starting up her omega 3's again. It's the only thing I've changed. Thanks,

Susan

I have found that omega supplements do not go over well with my child. I can not prove that they cause her tics to increase but it is just a hunch on my part. She can eat salmon with no problem but I stay away from supplements. I know how beneficial they are but am too scared to try again. I would say stop them for 3 days and if symptoms go down you will have your answer.

My daughter had terrible results on Omega's. Her mild tics got way worse and she was almost non-functioning. The minute we stopped them, she started to improve, but we have figured out that she can't even tolerate it as an additive to food. We have tried eggs, waffles from whole foods, and several other things that had omega's added. Interestingly, she can't even tolerate salmon.

THANK YOU, I never thought about the omega's added to our eggs and waffles..I just wrote saying that my dd can do supplements but can eat salmom - HOWEVER never thought about these other things. duh. A light bulb might have just gone off. Thank you again.

Dr. Murphy told us to be careful with the Omega's because Omega 6 can actually make things worse for PANDAS kids, and many foods that are supplemented with Omega 3 and some Omega 3 supplements also boost Omega 6 with is the bad one for our kids. She recommended that he gets 300 mg of Omega 3 per day (he's only 29 lbs) but to avoid Omega 6.

So we're always careful to ck the Omega 6 on foods we give our son (we still haven't found a supplement he'll take).

This may be the reason some of the kids are reacting badly...

how do you get the 3's w/o the 6 or 9...all of the oils seem to have them as they blend.....

also need to watch the ratio's ..i thought a higher epa was preferred..and that maybe for mood..hence the terms..mood bright..so that would mean stimulating...(don't want to stimulate a ticcer)

our dan said get the equal blend or a higher dha ratio...

would still like to now your ration on the omega 3 you use

A lot of researching the differnt products and supplements is how we're managing. It sounds like you know WAY more than me about the difference.

And the Dr. did tell us that many things that have O3 also have O6 - but to stay away from anything that is boosting/increasing O6. Basically - we want to supplement O3 without adding too much O6.

Since my son is fighting any sort of supplement - we've been trying to do it all with foods. Lots of internet reading and searching on different foods and content.

Lord only knows if we're doing it right - but we've seen small differences since we started. Since we're doing it with foods - I know that he's probably not getting all he needs every day - since some days its easier to get him to eat the special stuff than others.

We use Coromega. Here's what it says... this is only Omega 3 right??

2000 mg fish oil

Long Chain Omega 3 650 mg

EPA 350 mg

DHA 230 mg

We've tried fish oil several different times with our son and I have concluded it always makes symptoms worse. Makes me feel better to hear other parents have experienced the same result as I thought I was crazy to think that something that is supposed to be good for a person is making things worse.

I also found out in our IgG food testing that both my girls are highly sensitive to flax. I wonder if it's somehow related to this. I have stopped giving my dd the coromega and she does seem to be doing better but I think I'm going to have to give it to her again as a test to see what happens to confirm.
