DS2 had sudden onset psychotic behavior in the middle of the night the other night (he is on zithro prophylactic once a week, sure enough he is at the end of the week...). This morning I took him in for a rapid and a culture. The rapid showed a faint pink line for strep. The doctor (walk-in clinic) said that means he doesn't know if he has strep. In your experiences, is that a positive strep test? Will the culture most likely come back positive? Oh, I guess I should mention that the doc looked in his throat and said it looks very red and raw, and his ear looks "irritated".

I am most likely going to start abx tonight...

My daughter's ped once said to me, "you either have strep or you don't...there is no such thing as a little bit of strep...just like there is no such thing as a little bit of pregnant"

I can't remember the exact context of his statement, but we were discussing the accuracy of rapid-strep tests and cultures.

Yes, the faint pink line on the rapid test does mean it is positive. The culture should come back positive too, but I would treat based on the rapid. This has happened to us a few times.

He prescribed amoxicillin but I asked for augmentin b/c he also has clostridia (which augmentin fights). I am taking amoxicillin for myself and I started ds5 on augmentin, too.

I didn't realize augmentin was good for clostridia. May i ask why your boys aren't on proph augmentin? thanks!
