Azithromax dosage question

We just got our first prescription for antibiotics. 500mg per day of Azithromax. Is this too much??? My DD8 only weighs 67 pounds.

The plan is to try it for 2 months to see what happens.

 

Hoping for serious improvements as she has been on the rampage today.

just got off phone with doc b..told him about my 500mg azith for 3 days and back down to 250..he was ok with that...but ds is 10 1/2 80-83 lbs

i too wonder if to low..but wonder if my uppage of zith caused gut issues again in lower intestine????

My ds8 is 72 lbs and we are on 500 zith we started out on 250 and it was not doing the job- when we upped to 500 we saw a big difference. We have been on it for about 3 months now- going to the Dr on Wed to see what we do next -we are 8 weeks out from IVIG.

you might pm SFmom...he son was forty-thing pounds and on the 500mg dose for quite a while.

 

My dd is now 64 but is still on the 250mg dose. We did do 500mg/day for about a month a while back, however.

Thanks for the reply ladies. Also what puzzles me is that the dosage is to be taken all at once? I would have thought it would

be better to have 250mg in the morning and 250mg at night. Hmmmmmm....

My son hasn't cracked 30lbs yet, and he's only on 100mg at really bad times - 50 mg all others...he's been doing well on it

Azithromycin has a very long half-life so once a day is fine for this particular antibiotic.

You can also give your child a probiotic to keep the good bacteria in the gut and avoid yeast issues. Space it out 2-3 hours from taking the antibiotic.
