ajcire Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Wait, if he's getting his tonsils out be careful what you give him first....My daughter just had her tonsils out and I know it said something on the sheet they gave me about a certain amount of time before the surgery not to have something... can't remember what.. and after the surgery Motrin and Advil were on the do not give list... they said just tylenol.... something about bleeding was the reason. Advil for a three year old?How much? Children's ibuprofen of course? He's 38 pounds. Help!
thereishope Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 You can totally give advil/motrin to a 3 year old. I do it for my 3 year old.I looked on my bottle and for 38 pound it's 1 1/2 tsp. That's 150 mg. I give my kids dye free Motrin since they won't take pills.
thereishope Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 That's true about surgery and Ibuprofen. It may thin the blood. I'm not sure about the timeframe though.
Stephanie2 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 I give my 5 year old 1.5 tsp (I really could give 2 tsp., but he does fine on lower dose) and I give my 2 year old (about 29 lbs.) 1 tsp. Dye-free ibuprofen (Target has a generic dye-free that is much less expensive, we go through it like crazy around here). Well, regarding your 3 year old's strange behaviors, I hate to say it but it sounded like you were describing my 5 year old when he was 3. Also, my 2 year old has pandas. I had been suspecting it for awhile after the local neurologist said that he may have strep-induced tics (he didn't even know that my older son had pandas!). It was definitley confirmed when in Feb. both of my boys started having worsening of tics at the same time and then they both became extremely emotional, etc. I gave my 2 year old ibuprofen during a very long rage/tantrum (b/c I wouldn't let him play with the microwave). About 20 minutes later he stopped the screaming and went about his day with a smile! Anyway, within a couple days I started an antibiotic and voila the bad behavior melted away! Oh, and yes my kids start acting very silly (like very inappropriately silly) when they have yeast... Best of luck! Let us know what you find out! Stephanie Advil for a three year old?How much? Children's ibuprofen of course? He's 38 pounds. Help!
nomoz Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 My local pharmacist has been very helpful with any over-the-counter meds for my children. I'm sure one can help you with that. Also, my 3 year old little girl (her 7 year old sister has PANDAS) has been acting strangely for about a month or so. Her tantrums, when they happen, are inconsolable, she has become increasingly agitated and defiant, and she has a really fine raised rash on her cheeks (hardly noticeable). I am wondering the exact same thing as you - is it her terrible 2's coming late, or is something more going on? I don't want to ignore it, and I'm not yet ready to label it. It doesn't hurt, though, to get some blood tests done. Good luck!

fuelforall Posted April 30, 2010 Author Report Posted April 30, 2010 I'm back with more info on my three year old. From RAST tests last year IGA 154 THAT'S HIGH IGG 1227 THAT'S HIGH IGG SUBCLASS 1 957 THAT'S HIGH Homocysteine deficiency- already know that that means give him folate and b12. Doctor who read the tests, a good guy, said don't worry, but give him folate and b12. Says the IGA, etc numbers are nothing to worry about. I took ds3 out of the bath last night because he wasn't happy there and he screamed for 25 minutes that he wanted to go back in the bath. We tried distraction, I had to hold him down, he would not settle down. He is of course bound to be psychologically stressed from being with DS9 and his Pandas plus antics. I do have a doctor who says if Dr. B gives the word, she will prescribe my three year old antibiotics. So that's good. DS3 is three weeks out of tonsil surgery so I think it's fine to do ibuprofen. Reactions, please? Michael
