Subject: RLS Gene Increases Risk for Tourette Syndrome

To determine what role it may play in TS, the authors genotyped 322 unrelated patients with TS and 294 neurologically normal controls, for variants in BTB9 and two other genes identified in the RLS studies, MEIS9 and MAP2K5

I dont know if there will ever be found to be "a gene" for TS but rather that they will find many variable mutations, possibly some unique to specific families and possibly some crossover. But I have no doubt in my mind that in many cases, especially where there is clear family history, genetics is at the root of TS, with the "environmental factors" being the "trigger" for its manifestation

I sure agree with your statement Cheri.

When I swung over to the PANDAS forum, it was mainly to learn more about another aspect. Even with our strep history, I didn't really think we fit the PANDA profile. I don't reply to PANDAS type surveys, because I still don't know where we fit. With the incorporation of a type 2 subset, it got a little more plausable in my mind, but ultimately, I think you sumed it up nicely.

YES! I agree, too. Genetic predisposition (what is that predisposition??) caused by an environmental trigger. But, in the earlier threads (scroll back), we were discussing genes......the fact that no genes can be identified. (for sure) So, that leads me to my original question....what is the genetic factor??? Is it a gene/genes? Something else???
