peglem
We're flying out Wednesday morning for our Friday appointment. The airport/flight preparations are very stressful....please pray (if you believe in that sort of thing) for us, that getting through security and on the flight goes smoothly for us! I'm so nervous, but feel like finally we'll be able to start really treating and healing! I just don't want to make national headlines: "Autistic girl and family put off plane for unruly behavior!" Contact the airlines ahead of time, and tell them that you have a disabled child. They will help you board ahead of time, and help you make everything smoother. Dr. Latimer is fantastic. I know how you feel. Both my boys have PANDAS, and both are getting tremendously better, because of Dr. Latimer. It's been a very long haul...took 5 years to get diagnosed, and 6 to get treated (Dr. Latimer came on the scene!) I wish you lots of luck, and know that you can finally start breathing easier. This is encouraging to hear! I did contact the airlines and airport security today, and it seems like we'll get help and support from them. Anyway, I feel reassured! vermontmoms
We're coming from Phoenix. I looked at thrift shops (I do not want to buy a new winter coat that I'll only need for a week) but cannot find a warm coat. I'll look some more tomorrow. Our return flight will not be until the 14th...so not sure what that weather will be like. If you don't find a coat before you land you could try some shops once you get here. Trust me you will want a coat while you are here...it has been bitter cold. We were in the mtns of Colorado and it was warmer there than here...the moisture plus the wind will chill your bones.... Here is a list of a few consignment shops in Gaithersburg: Life 4 Animals Thrift Shop (301) 963-1444 15938 Luanne Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 Tina's Consignment Shop Incorporated (301) 921-9220 289 Muddy Branch Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878 Chic to Chic Consignment 15900 Luanne Drive Gaithersburg, MD 20877 Ph: (301) 926-7700 E-mail: info@chictochic.com Also, don't forget about Walmart. They had the puffy coat that Oprah had on her giveaways...at our local store the price is really cheap now. If you are staying off of Fredrick Rd. in Gaithersburg there is a mall nearby and Walmart and Target. If you are staying on the westside of Gaithersburg, there is also tons of options near the Washingtonian Center off Sam Eig. We live very close to where you staying. Hope that helps.... peglem
peg, happy trails to you.......gee, I hope Ivana isn't on the same flight...... Is this the first PANDAS doc you are seeing, I forget? where exactly are you as far as treatment goes? blessings Faith This is the 1st PANDAS doc we are seeing. Through my pediatrician we have done a steroid trial (good response), She is on zithromax, and we've been through several prophylactic abx's. Basically we are at the point where her pediatrician cannot do anymore w/o specialist help. The rheumy here would not deal with it and basically referred us to Dr. Latimer. The immunologist is waiting on word from Dr. Latimer- but said if she recommends, he will do IVIG's for us.

peglem
Hi Peglem,How did the flight go? The flight went sooooo much better than anticipated. Hope nobody was wtching the news looking for us last night! Sorry, didn't get that chance to advertise PANDAS. The worse part was actually getting Allie past the elevators at the terminal (not ON them..oh, no, we would never try that!). Airport personel were extremely helpful, security was no problem (they let us go thru the employee part). We preboarded and had our choice of seats (SW airlines). When we were lifting off, Allie had a complete shutdown- which worked well, but was scary- I checked to make sure she was breathing! Landing was a breeze! It was such a long flight...I think she just wanted to get off the airplane. Funny, too, we put so much time and energy into that flight and how we were going to get her there, once we landed, we didn't know what to do! We had reserved a rental car and hotel, but had no idea where to go and how to get them! We managed to get it all figured out, and were safe and sound!
