CSP
Hi all, son went to Dr. for strep today and the dr. told us it was a proven fact that ts was calmed with a one minute deep breathing to calm nerves. Does anyone do this or heard about that? Other Q... is how do you all feel about Zertec(sp) for allergies? Dr is pushing we use it for son. Chemar
Hi CP deep breathing was one of the techniques my son learned at both occupational therapy for his sensory dysfunction as well as in cognitive behavioral therapy for his tourettic OCD he also finds clenching helpful.he says he feels much release of tension after tightly clenching his fists and tightening his muscles very briefly and then releasing cant help personally re the zyrtec, sorry but I seem to remember something about it not being good? or maybe i am mistaking that for claritin?? faith
Hi C.P., The therapist we took our son to for the ocd did feel that all this is caused (or exacerbated) by anxiety. She never did teach him or us any of these techniques, but I thought I heard her mention "relaxation techniques" once. Anyway, how about some of us here try doing this with our kids for a couple weeks and report back? Faith
ilovedogs
Grif's therapist taught him to tighten up every muscle in his body and then slowly relax to calm his anxiety. And, we taught him deep breathing when he was 3 or 4. He still does it to this day! On the way to his tennis tournament 2 weeks ago I heard him breathing in the backseat. He just takes really deep breaths and then releases them slowly. I taught him to do a 4 count inhale and an 8 count exhale(or longer) and I told him to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. In yoga the breathing is all through the nose, both exhale and inhale, but he liked exhaling through the mouth and just felt better about it. I haven't had him use this for tics, though, just for anxiety. Bonnie
patty
CP, what kind of allergy symptoms does your son have, both indoor & outdoor? zytec is a pretty strong medicine. my son tried it a few years ago, but didn't seem to make much difference. he was also on singulair and it messed up his bowel, it took me over a year to get his bowel normal again. most of these allergy medicine made my son dry up. Benedryl is probably the most begnin of all the allergy medications. I would try that first. my kids have been on local raw honey within 5 miles of our home, and it seems to help w/the allergies. i also give them elderberry extract daily. our ND recommended qucertin, but have not try it. probiotic also helps w/allergies. i think your son is on it, right? CSP
Thanks for the replies. Patty, He has outdoor allergies and his nose is plugged. He is using the saline salt, but the dr. thinks he should take something because he has a post nasal drip that we keep having checked for strep. He said, son had slight strep???? what ever that means, and sent us out with an antibiotic. I like the idea of having us try the deep breathing and report back, faith. I hope son can get air in and out of his nose to do this the right way. cp
patty
CP, Were you doing NAET? Becuz it helps my son w/ his nasal allergies. I am sure you wrap your mattress, pillow, using a hepa... If your son is having strep, try grapefruit seed extract. Did your son had a rapid & culture done? Pat
