myrose
My daughter has been doing so well lately that I am scared to death to add anything to her topamax, in fear we would have a reaction like after we started the fish oil and things. Anyhow I have been thinking lately that I really would feel better if she at least had a multivitamin everyday. Has anyone had luck with one in which it didn't aggravate things?? Its so hard because some of the ingredients in some are known as offenders from many on this board. Any luck anyone???? I do have the Rainbow Light Nutri Stars Multivitamin & Multimineral Chewables, Children's, Tablets on hand but am scared to try Any suggestions or comments. faith
hi myrose, I say if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it, but that's just me. If you want to go with a multi (I don't use one, so can't give rec), but I would say try one that has the least amount of vits in it, like just the basic vits one kind of needs, you know A, B, C, calcium... forget ones with alot of aminos or other "flavors of the month", if you get what I mean. just go basic, and not mega amounts either, so there's no guessing what interacts with what, or what is the culprit if there is any reaction. And being that you had a problem with the supps that you gave a little while back, be on the lookout for the same thing happening, and try to keep what you suspected out anyway. That would be my advice. Faith

Chemar
myrose, if you can ensure a good balanced diet then a basic multi (as Faith mentioned with no added "extras" ) is probably the safest way. so many of the recently added ingredients may be very beneficial to many, but not necessarily for kids with neuro/inflammation/immuno stuff. I had to learn the hard way that since my son's Crohn's dx along with the TS, he could no longer take some of the supps that were beneficial to his tics. It is a delicate balance and so best going with a multi that just provides the "essential" vitamins and minerals to compliment a good nourishing non-allergenic diet my son takes his multi in the form of a protein shake to which he adds those supps he has found keep all his disorder/illness symptoms manageable. if you do reintroduce a multi start at low dose, ie about a quarter or third and then work up gradually to the full recommended dose. that way you will quickly see if it is having an adverse effect and there wont be as much forher system to have to process
ilovedogs
We don't use a multi but I do give my ds a chocolate greens drink that I can mix his glycine into. I have also given him a reds drink that has lots of antioxidants and I make that mix with lemonade to give him his B6 pill and his probiotics. That's about it. I try to keep things simple b/c he gets tired of taking supplements and he hates swallowing pills unless they're tiny like the B6 we get. Tracey111
We use some gummies that the kids LOVE. Target and Sam's have a "no artificials/no preservatives" store brand. They copy the Little Critters recipe, I think. They taste good.....probably the frutose, but they don't irritate his tics at all.
