Guest Guest_efgh
Just noticed that though my son's tics are a bit under control, but he is extremely hyperactive and restless these days. I know it could be due to a bit of chocolates intake, etc due to christmas celebrations in school . Even otherwise he generally is so restless when he has nothing to do and HAS to do something . I mean, play 24 hours..He has holidays now and that is making things WORSE. He gets SO ANGRY if he has nothing to do. Any natural calming agents suggested in this regard ...I want to see him calm/quiet for a while. But if he is busy playing or doing something he is fine. and he wants us to play with him all the time and its really draining my energy. The only peaceful time I get is when he sleeps in the night (especially during holidays)!. I dont let him watch TV too long (max 2 hours per day) and that causes more irritation for him. It would be great if you can suggest some tips/natural agents to keep him more relaxed and calm and quiet.

Guest Robin O
Hi, my son sounds alot like yours. He wants to be doing something all the time!! He must say 100 times a day, " I am bored" We walk in the door from being at the park and he announces I am bored. It has to be constant entertainment and it does get to me sometimes. I have a 1 year old and trying to keep them both happy and entertained is hard! We have been on the Feingold diet for 4 months. My sons energy level is more "normal" now. We also have had to cut out all dairy and will go gluten free during the Christmas holiday. ( Its too hard to start 100% during school- I need time to try out some recipes and come up with lunch items.) We cannot give him any chocolate. I even tried the dairy free chocolate but we notice an increase in tics when he has even a small amount. Chocolate does seem to be a problem for alot of kids. Guest Guest_efgh
Thanks Robin. Can you give me what are the major things that you follow in Feingold diet. Since your son is off dairy, do you supplement him with Calcium?? Are you giving him any supplements as such in general?
Chemar
My son responds well to Chamomille tea as a calming ingredient. Likes it sweetened with a bit of honey efgh, BeCalmd has good reports for ADHD, BUT may not be good for tics because it contains glutamine and phenylalanine. Excercise is one of the best remedies for restlessness as it not only gives an energetic outlet, but also stimulates endorphins which brings about a sense of wellbeing, calm and relaxation. Guest Jean
I started to give my son the flax seed oil 3 days ago. The ratio of omega 6 and omega3 is actually 1:3 (I was wrong in my previouse posting). His tics seems worse. I'm not sure if it's just a coincident. Per Jennifer's message, Omega 6 should be more than omega3. Any sugestion (or experience)? Thanks!
Mustang Carole
HI, The ratio is 3 parts of sunflower oil to 1 part flax oil, this was perscribed by my hollistic docter last Feb. when we started to see him. Hope this helps you. Mustang Carole
Guest Guest_efgh
Chemar, the chamomillee tea = is it caffeine free? Generally tea/coffee/chocolates contain caffeine which is harmful for tics and hence this question.
Chemar
Chamomille tea is available in Teabags or loose and is TOTALLY free of caffeine. it is made from chamomille flowers. When you have made the tea, the teabags make a wonderfully soothing skin rub, and clear pimples, excema etc.
Guest Robin O
Guest-efgh, we followed the diet very much according to the book for the first 3 months and then a slowly added some things back in. It was very helpful having all the materiels and food lists. We of course eliminated food colors and artificial flavors but we also had to eliminate apples and grapes. My son would be off the wall after eating these particular fruit or fruit juices. Robin
Guest Guest_efgh
Robin, how helpful was the Feingold diet for your son with regard to his tics? did you see a good improvement on that? what are the natural food items that you totally avoided as per the Feingold diet (since it talks a lot about SO MANY NATURAL salicylates like almonds, apples, oranges, grapes, paprika, peppers, chilli powder, etc - the list seems so long). In that case, what does your son get to eat?? And since you are avoiding dairy too, the options are practically too minimal. Claire, you mentioned your son does better when you go gluten free. In that case, neither can he take pasta nor bread. So, how do you manage the basic lunch, dinner etc? Chemar and Jennifer, I happened to see "corn syrup" as one of the ingredients in one of the supplements in the heath stores. What do you advise on this? Guest Guest_efgh
Robin for some reason I am unable to get into feingold website today. What is the procedure to become a member of feingold program? Does feingold diet talk about "no dairy".
Guest Guest_efgh
Robin, You said you avoid grapes and apples to your son. Do you give oranges, bananas etc? what about vegetables ? (like tomatoes etc) What are the diet regulations that the book talks about in general other than the artificial colours and flavours? Thanks for your reply. Guest Jennifer
efgh, I would avoid corn syrup as much as possible, it is processed by means of petroleum based products ,therefore, the residues left behind are not good.
