Tracey111
Is this a crazy thought????? Can slow growth be related to this whole thing???? I am almost 6 feet tall, my husband is 6 feet 1 inch. My older son is sprouting by leaps and bounds. My DS was born about the same size as my older son, but his growth has SLOWED a lot! I am getting concerned b/c he is so much smaller than my nephews/son and does not appear to be growing very quickly. He is the second shortest in his class (and not a "young" one in his grade), with 6 foot tall parents????? Is anyone else seeing this? A couple of people have mentioned that I should ask the doctor about his not growing? He is a muscular little guy!....oh, and he has a heart of gold!!!!! Thanks for any input you can give me....oh, and if there are any supplements that assist with this I am willing to research them
Chemar
Hi Tracey nope, my son (and his brother) reached 6 ft bf 18th birthday and had no growth probs you should ask the Doc to check your son's growth hormone etc levels to be sure that isnt a factor
michele
I thought I had read that TS kids are usually small for their age. My son is very tiny. He is six and weighs about forty lbs. He has not lost any teeth yet and is the smallest kid in the class as far as height goes. Odd my daughters, one who is one year and one who is twelve year are tall for their age, off the charts. "Relative short stature appears common in Tourette syndrome, and its presence with other features may implicate a neurotransmitter system that interacts with neuroendocrine pathways, controlling height." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12026236 PMID: 12026236 [PubMed - i Michele Hi Tracey nope, my son (and his brother) reached 6 ft bf 18th birthday and had no growth probs you should ask the Doc to check your son's growth hormone etc levels to be sure that isnt a factor
CSP
Yes, for my DS and DH both very slow growers. Husband was 16 and still not done with puberty. DS will be 15 in 3 months and he still is not 100lbs yet. He had two more baby teeth pulled last week and the last two will come out this week. He has always been the smallest in the class and team but is almost the oldest because his b- day missed the cut-off day by 26 days. Still no BO ( not complaining about that ) He is 5'1 tall, husband is 5'11. Just a small (no pun) happy note, he cracked one out in left field and made a stand up tripple. He has never done that and has only gotten a double from errors. Boy, was he happy. Not bad for the little guy. CP
P_Mom
Both sons have always been off the charts as far as growth. (height)
Caryn
My ds (Tigger) was on the low end of the growth charts before we changed his diet. He has been gluten and corn free (and organic/all natural) for over a year now and has had tremendous growth in both height and weight. Inadequate growth in weight and height is connected to celiac in kids. (Due to major malabsorption issues that lead to nutrient deficiencies and poor growth. (My son is dx'd celiac by our G.P. and has the celiac gene related to other autoimmune disorders) I believe the undiagnosed celiac he had (I think from birth) contributed to the development of tics/T.S. after he had his preschool vax's 1 1/2 yrs ago. Just our case here. Can't speak for every situation.
faith
Yes, my son is definitely a lightweight, 9 yrs old and about 48 lbs. if that. His growth in weight has always been a slow crawl. He is on the low end with height too (but we are not tall) although there are a few other kids in his class around the same height, but most of his friends have at least 10-20 lbs on him. I think my naturopath did say that seems to be the profile of kids with tics and ts. Interesting, but what came first, chicken or egg? I wonder too if we got him to gain some significant weight, would that help matters? A question to all -- can anyone who had an improvement and stabalization in tics (and/or other comorbid issues) correlate this to any growth spurts? in other words for those that have been doing well, have they gained a bit of weight or height in that same time frame? I know some have noted increase "during" a growth spurt, but what about after that? Thanks Faith
