Debbie,

Welcome. I think you will find this forum extremely helpful. Our journey began in August last year and I don't know if I would have kept my sanity without the help of wonderful people on this forum. We live in NJ and so we have contacted the doctor you mention. We actually made an appoint but ended up cancelling (the doctor sees new patients only on certain days and only during the school hours). They were not in our network and even the bloodwork they do themselves would not have been covered for us. We ended up gping to our regular allergist who ran some tests for us and everything came back negative. That was our last stop with traditional medicine doctors.

I noticed that Dr. Wojcik is mentioned in Sheilas book (in one of the personal stories).

Good Luck, I hope you find your answers soon.

Hi Brooka

I hope you got my PM reply to yours about the doctors and the tests

hoping you find a good doctor to help you

remember, as I explained in the PM, if their are other issues at work, eg PANDAS from strep, or heavy metal overload, pyroluria, candida "yeast" infection etc...then the supplements may not work correctly until those other issues are resolved

i did link you to what we did to help my son but here it is again. It may not be right specifically for your children's needs, but can give you a baseline to discuss with the doctor maybe

Chemar,

Is the supplement for flaxseed, borage and evening primrose you give your son something that can be bought at health stores? My son does not seem to tolerate the fish oils/coremega. I want to help repair the brain area affected by the PANDAS. I have been giving the monolaurin. Also is the inositol you give a pill or powder? Are these a certain brand you buy?

Thanks,

Michele

Thanks I have to go there to pick up an order. Does it smell nasty? My son is sensitive to smells. He fought me on the fish oils daily. I think it made his tics worse so I stopped giving it.

Hi Michele,

My son is allergic to fish, so I buy an Omega 3-6-9 oil made form Flax, borage, and evening primrose at the Vitamin Shoppe. He swallows it really quickly and then has a gulp of juice to chase it.

hi Michele

forgive for not remembering, but dont you have a PANDAS child?

if so

avoid omega 6 as it promotes inflammation, while omega 3 dampens the inflammatory response.

In autoimmune illness one wants to avoid any increased inflammation

omega 3 from flaxseed oil is a good alternative for those that cant take fishoil

Thanks for the clarification. So if you can't tolerate fish oil, flaxseed oil is a good alternative? I want to make sure I am giving him the right thing in regards to the inflammation from the PANDAS. Any certain type or brand? What about daily amounts? He is 6 and 40pounds. Another Dr. told me GLA and Borage but I think that is an Omega 6 and 9 and I want to avoid those I believe.

hi Michele

yes borage, evening promrose etc are higher in the 6 and 9s, altho borage does also have a good 3 content I believe. Borage is a great herb, and it is known to help with ADHD and much more and evening primrose is something I take myself...wunnerful for us ladies

I used to give my son the flax/borage/evening promrose combo till he was dx with Crohn's and was then told to immediately stop supplementing the 6 and 9 and only give omega 3 in addition to the EFAs of course from food sources. Once again where things that are overall good, can be not good for an individual because of more than one issue in their system.

when there is any form of auto-immune disorder, then best to go low on omega 6 & 9 and high on 3

my son can eat salmon and other omega 3 rich fish, but he cannot tolerate fishoil supplement, as it greatly increases his tics

he takes flaxseed oil instead for the omega 3 (1000- 1500mg per day is what we were told) and he also eats cereals rich in flaxseed as well as we grind frech flaxsseds and use in salads etc

Thank you for the great information. This is something I always was confused about. We had tried several different fish oils including coremega and he seemed to not tolerate them. I will have to try the flaxseed oil next. Thank you.

Hi Debbie,

I had visited Dr. Wojick about 3 years ago. I had purchased Shelia's book also for help and that is where I got his name from. From what I remember he does not take insurance and you have to pay additional for all tests. We spent several hours there with my son. It turned out he has a corn allergy. I wasn't overly impressed. I personally would not make a trip back to see him. I would prefer to find a doctor in the NYC/NJ area with experience in TS.
