catjb
I've been on these boards many times over and over and have read some of the best advice as to how to deal with my son's tics. He's 10 years old, but he's always had the eye blinking and coughing tic. But a couple of months ago, he started head jerking right after school got out for summer vacation. It was so bad that he was having his tics almost every couple of seconds. I started with an allergy test, turns out he was allergic to wheat, dairy, oats, grass and dust. Here's a list of treatments that have helped him: Eliminating foods he was allergic to, also preservatives and foods with dye. (food dye is a big one for him as is with a lot of kids) Started NMT treatments for allergies (similar to NAET) Acupuncture twice a week to start, now he's going once a week (turning point for him) Vitamins: B-Complex and OPC-3 (recommended by his acupuncturist, the brand is NutraMetrix ~ both are isotonic so it absorbs quickly) I must say I started seeing progress after a few sessions of NMT, but after he started acupuncture is when he really started to get better. So if you've tried everything else, maybe you should give acupuncture a shot. I know that it's a combination of diet, vitamins, acupuncture and NMT that helped him. He no longer has the head jerking, but still has a slight coughing tic. Overall he's a lot better now than a couple of months ago. I pray everyday that he stays healthy. It's been a long road with a lot of days of crying and sleepless nights trying to get my son better, so I just want to say to all the parents out there to hang in there and find a combination of treatments that will work for your child. I'm so grateful to this board for all the advice from other parents going through the same pain I was going through. Hope this helps....

Ann This has been over a year and a half for us on this "journey" to help our son. He has had a couple set backs, both major ones due to stress, one was over some bullying plus a terrible move for us, the last one was starting school in Gr 3. He had to deal with a new private school and a bus ride. We have done IgG, standard prick tests as well for allergy, changing his diet to reduce the problem foods, taking away all artificial colors, flavours etc. We also have him on Bonnies Vitamins and have had about 5 visits to a NAET Dr. I don't know what the real reason is for his progress, he is doing very well right now. My biggest problem is having faith that all the prayers and tears I have shed for him are not in vain. I want so bad to believe that we have been led down the right path on our journey, but I still have way too much anxiety thinking the tics will come back. I know they probably will, but I am hoping to a much lesser extent. For today, I will just hug the little guy and tell him how much I love him and how proud I am of him and pray for myself first, to be a good father and caregiver, then pray for him. If I didn't find this board, and spend time and money researching all these leads on what can help him, I feel I would not be doing my job as a parent. Just don't get too obsessed, my biggest mistake/challenge. Let your child be a child. I now let him have a few pieces of "junk food" now and then. We let him watch TV and play his Nintendo on a limited basis, if he tics, so what, they go away and probably no one else knows but me anyways. By the way, where to you live in Canada Ann? We are in Vancouver area.
bmom
Lenny, Glad your son is doing well. I just wanted to ask if you saw a difference with separate supplements vs Bonnies? I am trying to decide on what to do with that.
annag
Hello- how does one find NAET doctor, what does it stand for. Thank you all. Anna
faith
Thanks for that info, Catjb, and welcome. It is nice to hear when someone has has some good come of all the advice they read about, especially nice when some of these things seem to be beneficial. Could I ask how long after you eliminated the offensive foods did he seem to improve? Also with the NMT, are you trying this so he will be desensitized to the allergens or intolerances and does it seem to work? And when you visited the accupuncturist, I'd like to know what type of thing they do to alleviate the tics, I mean did they seem to know exactly what to do, or was it just general work and trial and error? Do you live in a large city, as you seem to have not had any difficulty finding these practitioners? Thank you again for your encouragement. faith
Hi Lenny, Glad your son has settle down again. What things did they treat for regarding the NAET, and have you challenged the things he was treated for to see if he shows any reaction like before? Or are you still not sure if it has any correlation? Thanks Faith

Or are you still not sure if it has any correlation? Thanks Faith He has been treated for eggs (whites and yolks) dairy as well as the initial clearing. We have not challenged the treatments per say, since all his allergies were delayed, I am not totally sure how we would know unless we gave him more IgG tests next year or his tics got worse. As to the previous question on Bonnies, I find them so much easier to use and feel safer with them. I still give him some calm and some pro biotic. Faith Faith, I did not really see a significant difference from eliminating the foods, but I know that it helped his body feel better with all that toxic junk in all the junk food. I started NMT to try to desensitize the intolerance to allergens, it seemed to help. Acupuncture releases energy blocks in the body, it helps the body heal itself with any type of ailment. They put the needles on top of his head, it was pretty scary for him at first but he noticed how much it helped him get better so he was willing to go back over and over. I will say though that with acupuncture, I was told that once you start it you have to come back before the 4th day or it will be like starting over again. So when we go on a Monday, I have to bring him back again no later than Thursday or we would have to start the whole thing all over again. (hope that makes sense) We did that for at least 6 weeks, now he's only going once a week and he seems to be fine. Where as before, if we did not go back before the 4th day, I would see his head jerking resurface again. I live in California, and there's quite a few acupuncturists here, but have to travel about 30 miles, which is not so bad. I found an NMT practitioner about 50 miles away from where I live. So in the summer while he was out of school I took him in twice a week. It's been a struggle, both emotionally and financially but it's all worth it...hope this helps you. petb
HI catjb We have been doing NMT treatments for about 1 year. I really believe it is what is helping my son. We he develops a tic for some reason, (food or environmental) she usually pins points the reason why and treats him for it and he gets better with in a day. How long have you been doing it? Interesting how you feel the acupucture helped more. My dr. does both but she never said he needed acupucture, only the NMT. It is hard to find someone else who is doing NMT also. I would love to chat more about it with you. PetB I've been on these boards many times over and over and have read some of the best advice as to how to deal with my son's tics.
