P_Mom Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Well, for me, I find it hard to believe that 12ish girls all contracted Lyme around the same time and then all developed sudden onset tourette like symptoms from it at the same time also. Just not plausible in my mind......but,that is me....no surprises there. (and I, personally, will leave the subject on Lyme and this situation rest at that.) Anway...thanks to some info. via the Pepsi Refresh site...I found the link. He talked about it at the end of a segment he was doing about eating processed meats. http://video.foxnews.com/v/1389322627001/processed-meat-linked-to-pancreatic-cancer

oivay Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 It's possible that they are all going to the same neurologist because he may be the only one in town. Upstate NY is pretty rural in a lot of places. As far as the conversion disorder, we got that diagnosis too originally (at Morristown hospital). The neuros there told me flat out that they didn't believe Pandas existed.

tpotter Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Can someone get to Swedo or Cunningham or Leckman--he's a tic guy. Would they be able to get to the parents or school officials. Anybody have a hotline to them? Dawn They already know. And, at least one of the top PANDAS specialists tried to tell the NY State Dept of Health, and was brushed off!
P_Mom Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Dr. Seigel had a good point...how can this not be considered a public health risk? /quote] That is right! This is so crazy. I really liked how he also said it was "very common." Finally! What about...Gardasil vaccine (all girls of that age...and hence the big cover-up) resulting in a compromised/over stimulated immune system meets strep?? Edited January 13, 2012 by P.Mom

That's certainly my guess. I see the website for Gardasil is pushing it for both sexes. Does anyone know if boys are actually getting this vaccine, or is it just the girls? Here's the website: http://www.gardasil.com/what-is-gardasil/index.html?WT.mc_id=GL0ES&MTD=2

Guess who is a neurologist at the Univ. of Rochester? Jonathan Mink...he's bud-buds with Kurlan and Singer. He wrote the CANS paper with them. Jonathan W. ajcire Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 It sounds like it's more than tics for these kids. If the one parent said he knows his daughter mannerisms... sounds like he's seeing some other differences in her.
oivay Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Oh dear..........I didn't realize they were so closely aligned. I'm desperately hoping that saying that 12 17 year-old girls who suddenly develop movement disorders have "conversion hysteria" is going to cause serious questions about their diagnostic skills to arise. What is this? the middle ages? Even my elderly mother (who lives fairly close by and is watching the news stories) and was a psychiatric nurse, questioned how it was possible for 12 people to suddenly develop "conversion hysteria".
P_Mom Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Wow...maybe it was meant to happen there to slap those guys upside the head!

So I'm reading about conversion disorder (still don't get why this diagnosis is accepted by the medical community but PANDAS is controversial ) and I came across this: " Conversion disorders occur more commonly in rural areas, among individuals with fewer years of education and of lower socioeconomic status." Kind of sounds like the opposite of Dr. K.'s typical PANDAS mom, huh? So of you are persistent and educated, you can eventually figure out that your child actually has PANDAS (or lyme, or some other real disease). If you have less education and less money or resources, your kid gets stuck with a conversion disorder diagnosis by the local pandas naysayer neurologist.
