Giselle
Hello, I am wondering about fish oil and increased tics. They seem to go together! Each time I introduce the fish oil, my ds tics are OUT-OF-CONTROL! I am defenitely not going to give them again. What experience has anyone else had? hc 7965[/snapback] Hi there, yes my son also can't tolerate the fish oils - well actually he did at first. We had used Bonnie's vits but it was like his body started rejecting them after a few months. We tried to reintroduce - again his tics got worse. I was listening to the couple that wrote the Gold Coast Cure (a diet that helps with a lot of inflammation diseases) and they only recommended Nordic Naturals because of their purity - no mercury, etc. They also explained if the Fish Oils cause repeating (burping or gas) and or a fishy taste the oil has gone rancid (lovely!) quan_daniel
Giselle and others, Does your child like to eat a lot of fish before starting the fish oil supplement. My child loves fishes and he loves the fish skin especially(he does!!).. I wonder if your body likes to begin with maybe the child is able to tolerate it more and benefit from it. Kim, I know your oldest child takes bonnie's fish oil with no problem. Does he like to eat fish? What do u guys think? thanks daniel Hello, I am wondering about fish oil and increased tics. quan_daniel
Giselle and others, here are the natural ingredients for nodic natural. Ingredients: Purified deep sea fish oil, lecithin, ascorbyl palmitate, vitamin E, natural lemon oil Lecithin : anti oxidant. sometimes made from soy. If you are allergy to soy, can cause tics. ascorbyl palmitate : preservatives for oil, close to vitamin C(ascorbic acid). and vitamin e..in nordic naturals it has 35 IU/52.5mg (1 mg = 1.5 iu) RDA recommends only 10.5 IU for kids age 4-8 http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamine.asp#h3 And finally here is this warning.. Warning: Do not use fish oil if you are allergic to iodine, are using blood thinners or anticipate surgery. Consult with your physician before taking fish oils if you are pregnant or diabetic. Keep out of the reach of children. but then there is the kid version.. http://www.nordicnaturals.com/retailers/pr...mmary.asp?ID=36 which has this Each 1/2 teaspoon provides: DHA: 350 mg Vitamin A: 438-975 IU EPA: 225 mg Vitamin D: 2.5-20 IU other Omega-3: 125 mg Vitamin E: 4 IU same warning on iodine but 4 IU on Vit E it is so hard to choose because u don't know if your kids need extra vitamin A or D..or E for that matter. Plus my child takes a one-a day type multi vitamin.. u then have to add up the IU from there..and sees if it exceed.. kim
Daniel, Yes, oldest son does like fish, but now I'm not wild about him eating it do to contamination. He loves scampy at Red Lobster, and most any kind of fish. The fish oil capsules, don't taste like cooked fish though. Bonnie recommendes you take them at the beginning of a meal. I think that way when the gel cap "pops" you are not as likely to get that fishy taste. Sometimes son will say " Yuk it just popped", but he really doesn't act like it's all that bad. Giselle
Hi! Yes he likes fish and used to eat lots of wild caught canned salmon. His food allergy test shows that he's not allergic to any fish or shellfish - he loves shrimp. It's just the fish oil - it makes his tics much worse. I'm seeing his DAN doctor on Wednesday and will discuss all this with him. I think I'll try other forms of 3's and 6's. Giselle
quan_daniel
just a wild guess why fish oil might not be for everyone if u read this link.. it talks about high and low histamine.. http://www.nutritional-healing.com.au/cont...ical%20Subtypes people with high histamine should not take choline(amino acid?) and it is found in lecithin, which is found in some fish oil. Nordic Naturals has that. Cod liver do not. claire has posted this once. thanks

That makes so much sense - I know that my sons histamine levels go off the charts when he's stressed out as last year we had him muscle tested and he was registering allergy to everything - super high histamines and about a month later (summer vacation) he was much more relaxed and we got a true read on his allergies which were considerably less (had a delayed allergy test since then to narrow stuff down). When he's really bad we sometimes give him a Zyrtec which helps and we knew it helped him be less reactive to his allergies but didn't think the whole thing through but of course it was lowering his histamines! This whole thing is a puzzle and that was helpful with another piece of it - luckily I love puzzles or I think I would have gone off the deep end by now thanks, Giselle
Robin O
Gisille, Did you son react to Bonnie's vitamins supplements as well as the Fish oil. I am wondeing because the supplements have 100mg of lecithin per 10 caps. Can this cause the same reaction as the fish oil with the chlorine? quan_daniel
Robin, good point on lecithin in bonnies supp. My wild guess on that one would be the supplement is balance enough that lecithin is able to be utilized better by the body and hence no reaction.. like magnesium plus taurine..to get mag taurate..which allows a better absorbtion to body instead of urinate out to the outside.. what do u think..? thanks daniel quan
Robin O
Daniel, He does have alot of allergies to pollens, tress, grass etc. We have not had any formal allergy testing for food but I have seen him react to milk, corn, and several fruits. I am going to get the food testing done this summer. Robin
quan_daniel
most kids get worst around this time of year.. so many of these have seasonal allergies..or food allergies.. I am just wondering..if the severe case comes from pollen.. humidity in east coast has been high..dustmites are so prominent.. besides supplement..did you try to improve diets..enzymes..etc..to heal the gut thanks Daniel, He does have alot of allergies to pollens, tress, grass etc. We have not had any formal allergy testing for food but I have seen him react to milk, corn, and several fruits. Brenda1972
My daughter (7) developed tics from ritalin. She has ADHD.The tics went away after the ritalin was stopped. She's not had any tics in over a year since she stopped ritalin.I decided to try Natrol Omega-3 Fish oil and now she has a vocal tic.I'm sure it was the fish oil that caused it.I stopped the fish oil over a week ago but the tic is still there but getting better.Anyone know how long will it take for the fish oil to leave her system and the tic to stop completely? Thanks,Brenda
Ronnas
I recently added more omega 3 to my son's supplements and he also ticced more. I stopped about a week ago and yesterday they were less but still there. A few years ago I supplemented with Bonnie's fish oil and I thought that he reacted badly to them but I guess now I know for sure that he does not do well with too much omega 3. Knowing my son I suspect that within about a week the tics will be better.
Guest
I think it probably took about 2 weeks before things calmed down after stopping the fish oil. You may want to consider flaxseed oil instead. The other thing you may want to look in to is pyroluria which has to do with zinc. If someone has pyroluria they usually don't do well on fish oil, but instead do well on something like flaxseed oil. Carolyn
