Well the fun continues. My nephew is now at the ER with what looks like croup (woke up not able to breathe last night). My son is having terrible stomach pains (last night), diarrhea and nausea (this morning). He's been thinking he's going to throw up but has only thrown up a very small amount once. No fever. This seems so minor right now ... he's running around and seems to feel just fine now but I'm terrified about c-dif or colitis. I've been lazy about the probiotics while we were on vacation...just out of my routine and forgot with all the excitement. Does anyone have experience wiht C-dif? What are the main symptoms and how should we treat it? I'm terrified of c-diff b/c it means he'll have to come off the antibiotics.

Don't know much anything about C-diff, but just wanted to say that colitis (specifically ulcerative colitis, dunno if that makes a difference) is in the family & we don't see much, if any, nausea or vomiting from that.

My dd had vomiting and fever to start. Then on day 3, she developed diarrhea. I think she was a little atypical though because our pediatrician was shocked that the diarrhea was not present from the beginning.

My dd(9) had c-diff in 2006, 2007, and this past April. Each time it presented differently. The first time she had severe, severe cramping with off/on diarrehia. She would sit on the toilet and beg for me to take her pain away. The second time there was frequent long skinny stools and minor complaints of stomach pain. We had no vomiting with the c-diff, that I recall.

Both of my boys have had clostridia (not sure which strain), in fact one is being treated with flagyl right now. If your son gets it, it doesn't necessarily mean he has to come off antibiotics, but he may need to change or add one.

For my boys, they get ragey, aggressive, very unhappy and noncompliant. It is almost worse than pandas. but not all children would react that way. One of my boys gets diarrhea with clostridia (and very very stinky BMs) and one does not, just the associated behaviors.
