texascatholic Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Ok, so we finally are trying the Augmentin XR 1000 (twice per day) and my daughter is raging and ticcing like crazy! I thought this one would help, but no. Is there a herx with this one, too???? Thankfully we are sending out blood to Igenex this week, and have IVIG scheduled for Nov 17th and 18th. Any advice would be a blessing...
purple66p Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 My son is 3 weeks into the same dose and is having similar problems with rages and difficulty sleeping (related to compulsions.) We're trying a few things: 1. 20 mg hydrocortisone in the morning (our doc does not like prednisone) 2. 2.5 g very good fish oil (Nordic Naturals) 3. Supergreens smoothies and probiotics to help normalize his gut I've seen some improvement in mood with these changes, but nothing dramatic. Unfortunately we can't use ibuprofen because we're still trying to get him off of lithium, but when we do I intend to try it. There are a couple of things that seem a bit better. His handwriting is almost legible! It has been horrible since he got sick 6 years age. And the tics seem a little better. They're still there, but just not all of the time. But I do hate the rages and volatile mood! I'm tired of walking on eggshells.
Stephanie2 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) The only times we had herxing with augmentin is when we had klebsiella or clostridia of the gut. Rages increased but stopped by day 4 or 5. I would consider a stool analysis or OAT test: http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/home/eng/microbial_oat.asp By the way, augmentin is what finally got rid of the klebsiella for good (those were some severe hands-on rages that lasted on and off for 6 months). If clostridia, other abx would work better, flagyl, vancomycin... May be some other gut bacteria going on too, but I don't have experience with any others...yet I also wonder if it is making yeast worse? My boys do not get aggressive or rage with yeast but I think some kids do. As far as lyme, I have no experience there... Let us know what happens! Edited November 8, 2010 by Stephanie2
