Any advice about homoeopathy?

I have OCD of the kind that's sometimes described as "Tourettic OCD". That is, my compulsions occur in response to particular situations, like normal OCD compulsions; but like tics, there isn't any reason for them or any anxiety if I don't do them, only a strong urge which usually gets the better of me in the end.

I've tried various things, and I'm thinking of trying homoeopathy next. Several people on various OCD forums I use recommend it highly. Can anyone give me any advice? In particular, do any of you happen to know how I might go about finding a homoeopath in the UK who has experience of treating OCD, Tourette's or other neurological problems? We've tried phoning one of the professional bodies in the UK (can't remember which), but they weren't very helpful. Said that as homoeopathy treats the whole person, there's no such thing as a homoeopath who has special expertise in one condition. Surely if you're treating someone with particular symptoms, it's an advantage to have come across those symptoms before!

I've tried the usual CBT methods (I did once visit a professional CBT therapist, but she didn't know what to do with me). They do work to some extent, but I'm no longer getting anywhere, and I really need some more help.

Thanks,

If you are interested in homeopathy. I would suggest you find a classically trained homeopath that uses one remedy at a time and not a combination remedy. Many ND also prescribe homeopathic remedy but they are not homeopaths unless they are trained in homeopathy. Also, be sure the homeopath does not do keynote prescribing, becuz it may give temperary relief but will not give lasting relief.

I suggest you read & understand homeopathy before considering the modality. The general impression is that is is safe, natural and no side effect. It is NOT true!! If the remedy is powerful enough to cure, it is equally powerful enough to harm when it is not prescribe carefully & correctly.

Hope this is helpful.

as I have posted before, it is believed that a potent homeopathic remedy (agaricus) is what brought out my son's tics and OCD so very intensely when he was 10yo

do heed Patty's advice in proceeding with caution and knowledge. Homeopathy is remarkable and has helped in many conditions (including one of my own) but it is powerful medicine!

Thank you very much Patty and Chemar. I've read a certain amount about homoeopathy, but I'm always keen to read more if I can find anything. I'll look a bit harder now!

I've heard before about it being best to use one remedy at a time, but I'd forgotten. Thanks for the tip about "classical" homoeopathy. I know what that means in theory, but it'd help if you could give a few examples of other kinds of homoeopathy. Then I'd know what to avoid.

What do you mean by "keynote" prescribing? Never heard this term before.

Any other advice from anyone would be very welcome!

Hi again,

I feel like this is my only outlet and have been writing lots of messages. I mentioned in some other posts that I am new to homeopathy. I hope you all wouldn't mind perusing the remedies I give my son to let me know if they are potent enough to provoke a strong reaction. I am so worried about my son. He has been doing the worst tics that I've ever seen in the last two weeks. Today, he was terrified because his tics (clearing, humming, sniffing, etc) were so bad that he couldn't breath. Well, here are the remedies...

Droppers: Max Alkalize (alkaline support), OCD extra lite (strep elmination), Gamma Globulin (immune support), Peyer's Patch (lymphoid tissue support), TL/Acon/Ign/CC (emotional support), Max thymus and immune support, Caust/Agar/Carc/Med (for tics)

Pellets: B2 Bacterial (antibacterial), Secretin/CCK Hom, V07 Pellets (immune support), U 3x (immune stimmulation), R 3x (immune stimulation)

He also gets packets to clear past antibiotics.

Chemar, you mentioned that Agaricus brought out your son's tics? Is that the same as "Agar"? Did the tics lessen when you stopped? I give that dropped 3 times a day.

Will this new tic pass? It's been two weeks since the "bad" tics.

Thank you so much!

This is my experience w/Unda#s (homeopathic rx that is a combination rx in various potency, from the Xs to Cx). When my son had his initial onset of tics, his ND, who was not BTW a homeopath prescribed various Unda#s & his tics intensified and had more tics. His NP insisted that was a good sign becuz the body is getting an aggravation and the symptoms would subside in a few weeks. Well, the tics only gotton worse, so i finally stopped the Unda#s, and the tics took months to get back to baseline.

I have tried Unda #s myself and it gave me momentarily fainting spells.

Years later, my son tried Unda #s for his cough, and it didn't seem to aggravate his tics.

I have been taking homeopathic remedies for the last 2 years for various chronic conditions, and when i get a partial remedy, it actually made me feel worse, such as frequent bloody nose, made my pain worse, nausea,.... Often, my aggravation last until i switch to a better remedy.

Info on homeopathy:

For acute issues, remedies can be repeated but each time at the next higher potency.

For chronic issues, remedy is given one at a time and then wait to see before prescribing again. The case taking for a chronic remedy is a constitutional remedy, which means it takes one's overall health, not just specific issues.

Keynote prescribing is prescribing a remedy based on key symptoms and not one's overall health.

Hope this is helpful.

hi Nola

I just replied to your PM too. I dont know if the Agar drops you took are the same remedy as the Agaricus pillules my son was given. If it is, please be very careful as it definitely brought out the worst reactions in my son

I don't know much about homoeopathy but if you want to try Bach remedies as they look like homoeopathy, i can help you with this as i know them a lot. Homoeopathy can be (helpful but also) harmful but not Bach remedies. They are as powerful and in a safer way, and come from flowers with some exceptions. A combined and specific remedy can be created for a particular sickness or syndrome, or an emotional problem, from up to seven Bach remedies.

They work if the right remedies are chosen, like homoeopathy.

If you need any help or suggestions just let me know.
