Bontech vitamins -- help!

Agree - it's very sparse. I did it that way because I was under the impression that the elimination diet meant cut down to the bare minimum and slowly introduce new foods and food groups. I would love to add foods, but feel I need to have tics under control first so I'll know if a new food sets me off.

An elimination diet (at least the way we were taught) is eliminating a specific food group for a period, and then reintroducing it to see results, not eliminating most food altogether! It is not too late to start over as right now you are in a waxing mode so setting a new baseline is not a bad idea

I talked to my wife and we are going to add a number of items to my diet (beans, grains, veggies, fruits, other meat options) -- however, will continue to ensure we stay away from the list of most common triggers (dairy, preservatives, artificial flavor/color, etc) - so will keep a number of fruits out, no potatoes, etc.

 

I obviously misunderstood the elimination diet. I thought you cut back to the bare minimum food items and slowly added things to see if it set you off. I admit I'm still a bit confused in that if I still have issues after I expand the diet, I won't know for sure if one of the foods I am currently eating is causing hte trouble or not.

 

I'm hoping to spend some time finding a naturopath this week - it's been too hard to spend any time on that this week with all the tics.

 

I'm also going to get some jasmine oil and that "Natural Calm", and Taurine that you mentioned.

 

If anyone else on this forum has further thoughts on how they made the elimination diet effective for them I would love to hear about it.

Hi Rick! This may jump all over but here goes...you can do a total elimination diet (this is what you are attempting) and add back over time but this is pretty huge! I agree with Cheri that what most of us use is eliminating a food group or groups and then challenging them if even necessary. For us, some were so obvious we didn't need to challenge them. Once we took our son off wheat, I remember him having a monstrous waxing before it got better. The same with dairy. It came about a week into the removal and lasted about a week.

 

Our ds loves blueberries and they dont seem to be a trigger, but I highly suspect tomatoes and am about to try eliminating "night shades" for a bit. ..

The only questions I had about your triggers right now were the tomato, possible soy (definately not good with our ds) and some gluten intolerant individuals cannot have even oatmeal...Our ds has it but not on a daily basis and must be a high quality oatmeal.

 

Maybe your stress is over the diet and trying to track everything all at once. I found when we started I was on a mission to find out any and all triggers as quickly as possible...I found out it doesn't work that way...sigh :( At least for us it is an ongoing thing and focusing on main food sources first....wheat, dairy etc made it easier. We are 3 years in and have his main triggers, but there are still times we need to eliminate and challenge a food. It may take some pressure off to go after the BIG ones first and then make a list of other food groups to try over time.

 

Three kids can be stressful,(we have 9,7,almost 5 and just turned 3) let them be your exercise and stress relief...and if all else fails: get out ALONE with your wife, sounds like she is very supportive and involved, that's a real blessing!

Starting late last night the tics did start to show some signs of relief - they are also doing better so far today. Still clearly there, but seems like they may be improving.. Let's hope the trend continues.

 

I did get an appointment with a naturopath in my area, and saw her yesterday. Thankfully, she seems to be familiar with TS, as she is currently seeing a 12 yr old girl with TS, so she is at least familiar with this. I called about 4-5 different Naturopaths before I found one that even had dealt wiht TS.

 

She put me on a elimination diet similar to what everyone else here is saying. She also told me that her belief is that the 'toxin dumping' is playing a role in my strong tics as the body is adjusting to this elimination diet and removal of toxins.

 

She looked through my bontech meds and saw no issue with continuing them - she added Taurine and Udo's 3/6/9 to the daily list for me to take.

 

And yes, she had me move to gluten free oatmeal vs. the standard oatmeal I was eating. I asked about sea salt, as my wife read that it may contain MSG, and her opinion was that sea salt is perfectly fine. I was a bit surprised, as I thought people here had issue with sea salt, but maybe not.

 

She also asked me about any strep, etc as a child, and I have no memory of ever having this...

 

I'm heading in right now for my first acupuncture appointment. I've never done it, but heard such great things about it, that I need to try it out.

good that you are working with a naturopath who sounds like she knows what she is doing Rick

 

the very fact that she asked about strep indicates she is at least aware of PANDAS

 

I hope you find much benefit from the acupuncture. My son has always maintained it is the most remarkable help for him
