I have been reading about s. pneumoniae in dogs. just started but I dont know much yet. But I found there is a PCR test here http://zoologix.com/dogcat/Datasheets/StreptococcusPneumoniae.htm Streptococcus pneumoniae is gram-positive, alpha-hemolytic, bile-soluble aerotolerant anaerobe. Besides pneumonia, this organism causes many other types of infection, such as acute sinusitis, otitis media, meningitis, bacteremia, sepsis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, endocarditis, peritonitis, pericarditis, cellulitis, and brain abscess. S. pneumoniae is the most common cause of bacterial meningitis in humans, and is one of the two most prevalent isolates found in ear infection, otitis media. Several animal species, including rodents, dogs and monkeys, can also be infected with these bacteria. Culture detection of S. pneumoniae is not very sensitive compared to molecular detection by PCR. In addition, PCR is much more specific and rapid than culture (Virolainen et al., 1994). Utilities: Help confirm the disease causing agent Shorten the time required to confirm a clinical diagnosis of S. pneumoniae infection. Help ensure that horse populations are free of S. pneumoniae Early prevention of spread of this bacterium Minimize personnel exposure to this bacterium Safety monitoring of biological products that derive from horses

The baby was tapid neg, and its going to the lab for general culture -
My bulldog cultured beta hemolytic strep pos 6 weeks ago. Tooks 6 weeks amoxi. finished 2 days ago. Well guess what? My severe pandas kiddo is having horrible defiance and behavior today. Grrrrr.... I was just saying how awesome he was doing. Like 100% Now my odd mild pandas kiddo has a mild stomach ache (abx or bug?) and my 8m old has red swollen tonsils cultured today I called the vet and told them and they extended the amoxi 2 weeks. Then in 4 weeks the dog needs to be recultured. I know its from the dog being off amoxi. We go to the nih for our last visit next week. I was looking forward to saying hes 100%! Hopefully its a small bump in the road

Pain attacks but normal sed rate
bulldog24 replied to pandakid11's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
oh and sed rate doesnt mean too much. So dont put too much stock in it. My sed rate was noraml for years. but there is something called crp ( c reactive protein) also measures inflammation. Mine was 20x normal and has been for years. so please dont think that a sed rate thats normal rules certain things out. one of the reasons no one believed my son had pandas was a normal sed rate... -

Well I am a chronic pain patient. I have Lyme and that caused fibro. It sounds like he could have nerve pains (neuropathy) Burning sensation is just that, You could try b12 and magnesium. but he may need something more if his pain is that bad. Narcotics do not work well on nerve pain, things like cymbalta, neurontin etc helps. I would certainly talk to his doctor. I dont know if those drugs are appropriate for kids. I havent heard many PANDAS kids with severe pain unless they have Lyme. -

Colleen. Hope things are going ok!!! Hope to see you. -
You can also get glutathione as an iv. I used to get them.
-
My llmd also told me about the tylenol autism link. She told me to rarely use it on my baby especially around vaccines. Neuro friend says same thing. Can you give 8m old ibuprofen??? I remember when my older kids would get vax they would me a bottle of tylenol to use before vax. I have used tylenol a few times not near vax. But would rather use ibuprofen.. There is glutathione cream at kirkman lab.

In my experience, drs do not get worked up over results until they are waaay out of range. Is this the right was idk. My sons tsh is 5.25. No one was concerned because his t3-t4 were normal. Pedi said they wouldnt do anything but watch it. I did get it double checked. So my gut would say to you, dont go to childrens. Let our pedi know. He was open to following it. My dd vit d was 27. I was also told no.big deal, will go up in summer. I give her 4k units a couple of timed a week.
