  1. how did you take her temp? rectal temp of 100 is pretty normal. rocephin hurts but doesnt compare to bicillin! Its thick as glue and because of that it is large gauge needle. Poor kiddo. I feel so bad for her. I also feel bad for you, you must be super stressed. The only other thing I can think of is that she is having a herx from the rocephin, IF she had Lyme? have you thought about switching to formula just to see if it makes a difference?
  2. ouch to the bicillin. Its a super painful injection I did them for 2 years. I wouldnt give it to my baby. BUT when they thought my baby could have strep they gave us amoxi
  3. Thank you for all the info. I am going to see what the vet will do- she is not in until tomorrow. i will certainly pick my sons health over the dog. She cant stay outside, one because I dont think its nice, but she is a bulldog and they are not the outside type. She has bad skin/ears which are great on abx. I just dont have high expectations that the vet will get this, ya know? I certainly can get my hands on plenty of abx anyway.....
  4. The dog has been off abx for a few days. This am my son starts confessing he stuck his middle finger up. I guess I am going to ask my vet if she would consider any prophilactic abx. I have never heard of this in animals. I dont think it will go over well.
  5. agree with orion.Ihave fluid in my ears but told not infected. It hurts like heck.
  6. yes it was about 6 weeks of ups and downs after ivig
  7. my sonwent from 10% if that to 99% after 2 ivig with NIH.Nothing short of miraculous. Yourkiddo may qualify for the study.
  8. its tonight in rockland, not going to make it though
  9. glad to help! I am in love with mine! and fyi I have no connection to hsn I even called jsn because I just paid full price 3 weeks ago and they refunded me $100 like it even more now
  10. I posted about this before- but now its on SALE (at least last time I checked today) Its a germicial air purifier. It says it kills strep etc... here the link free shipping too. So far I LOVE mine. I bought another too. can make payments http://www.hsn.com/home-solutions/hunter-total-air-care-germicidal-air-purifier_m-10058307_xp.aspx
  11. My dog is also a carrier
  12. Being exposed to strep can do this. I would start looking at family members and your dog.
  13. Yup I am game. I am sure my library could do it in whitman. Lmk how i can help
  14. But I dont get why they are culturing his urine while on abx? That makes no sense. Just going to cost a lot for a neg result. I would finish the course of abx and wait 2 weeks and reculture.
  15. no there is no need to sedate him to get the urine in a sterile fashion. They will prob use a catheter and it takes 2 seconds. yes my dog had to be under anesthesia for her throat swab. I am glad I KNOW that the dog had it, if I just treated everyone I would have not known ya know?
  16. is it possible the NIH would take a child from the uk? I dont see why not? There is a study going on by some of the best. Its free if you qualify.
  17. So sorry. that is frustrating why did they switch the meds?
  18. I would also ask if the urine sample was a sterile collection via catheter or cystocentisis (needle aspiration of bladder) If they just did a free catch thats not the best.
  19. the lyme test is easy. You get accurate results in 10 min. Lyme causes A LOT of kidney issues in dogs. Babesia can cause anemia I would do it asap. They can do it in the hospital results in 10 min and its prob around 70 bucks. (also checks for anaplasma and heartworm They prob cant culture anything now because hes on abx. dont worry too much about the amoxi. Cipro will kick some butt
  20. Did they test the dog for lyme too? They shoud have. my gut is that a lot of pets are carriers. Are they gonna culture it? Clavamox is doggie augmentin.
  21. I called the lab. the man was very helpful. He said each test was $85 which I think is a reasonable amount. He said it could be done with blood, or a swab or the airway (nasal throat) I forgot to ask about ear. Shoot!! The request form is on the site. you could prob swab your dogs nose with him awake. Throat not so much. I am going to try like ###### to do these tests. I just cant decide blood or swab? he said lots of false neg with blood. Since she will be under I think I will do the swab. If anyone needs help with this lmk. I think the do cats too.
  22. I go to weymouth ma. I think they thought I was a bit nutty tilll the test came back positive, now I am not the crazy lady! I can pm you the info if you want. Alot of vets in the area are on board with vax every 3 years. But they lose money that way so some are not into it.
  23. Oh they also test for s.pyogens. Going to call when they open
  24. I also lost a dog to endocarditis. Makes me wonder.
