  1. Daniel, In our state, I have to provide the school with proof of 6th dose of Tetanus, Diptheria, and acellular Pertussas, when my now 10 yr. old, enters middle school next year. I will file a religious exemption. The Dr.s are recommending one of the meningitas vaccines, but it's not required YET that I know of. That could change any day. There are many vaccines that are in development, and current ones that are being considered for "required" vaccines. As far as I know, the 2nd dose of chicken pox, is not required yet, but do to the miserable failure rate of one, I'm sure it's coming. This is a really great forum for getting educated on vaccines. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=47 There are tons of links to information and studies. Some people there that have so much knowledge about vaccines and the diseases, it's incredible. If anyone reads, please post information that you think is important on one of these threads! Kim
  2. Claire and All, DO NOT DEPEND ON THE COMPLETENESS OR ACCURACY OF THIS INFO My humble opinions are included here. I don't believe that it has anything to do with more frequent injuries at this age. I think it has to do with more profits. 3 of my family members were given a TdaP booster this past summer and a friends husband who went in for an insurance physical. Two family members had bee strings, and one had a sinus infection. I knew something was up. My sister was given some horrendous and TOTALLY ficticious numbers regarding tetanus(read 2 posts above about the prevalence of it). Then I read where there is a Big Push on, in the Dr.s offices for this vax. I had already seen it personally, so had no trouble believing it. Two Tdap vaccines have been recently licensed. GlaxoSmith-Kline’s Boostrix is licensed for persons 10–18 years of age, and sanofi pasteur’s Adacel is indicated for persons 11–64 years of age. http://www.drugs.com/NDA/adacel_040811.html Virtually all of the cases of tetanus disease occurring in the U.S. are in adults not up-to-date with booster vaccinations. If the above statement is true, where are all of these adults with Tetanus? You can say that they don't get injured as much, but check out the knuckles of anyone who works construction, or in factories, women who garden etc. Think about all of the adults/young adults with injuries, that they wrap with something less than sterile and carry on! Pertussis is most dangerous to infants under 6 mos. old. This is why they are starting to vax all of us adults with it. They are giving it to our kids 6 times btwn the age of 2 mos. and 11 or 12 years old, but apparently it's not working very well(like the flu shot in the older folks, so now they're recommending it for kids) so they figure, by giving it to adults, that might work...so we stop spreading it to kids They are hoping to give Adacel or Boostrix to the rest of us, every 5 years, instead of 10, like the current Tetanus booster(TD vaccine stilll contains thimerosal). One of the wonders of this is that it can be given more frequently in the event of a Pertussis outbreak in your viewing area. Adacel pkg insert....first paragraph "other ingredients"......errrrrrrr http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:MeZHHE-...k&cd=5&ie=UTF-8 http://www.drugs.com/adacel.html What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before receiving Adacel? • Do not receive this vaccine if you have: · a disorder or disease affecting your brain; · uncontrolled epilepsy or other seizure disorder; · a neurologic disorder; · human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection; or · a weak immune system caused by disease or by taking certain medicines or receiving cancer treatments. I'm not up on Diptheria at all. As far as meningitas and Menactra, in addition to the information above in 3rd post from top, look at this chart...see the B strain? http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5540md.htm I think we also have to consider the new stains that emerge, as old ones lessen due to vaccination. This thread is talking about HIB. but this concept applies to the men. vax. too. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=544266 I really don't think that theres any way for parents to make informed decisions about vaccines, unless they understand something about the diseases themselves. There are SO many things to consider besides thimerosal. I don't believe we can vax. away illness. I also worry about the state of funds for health care in the future. What happens when there are so many of these things that noone has NATURAL immunity to, and we have to start paying out of pocket for these vaccines. Might we have a whole bunch of adults with Chicken Pox and worse?
  3. Claire, I am going to respond to this on a thread that was recently started here. It's titled "Flu shot linked to tics?"
  4. Deana, Before you buy calcium, you may want to do a little reading on the different forms. Calcium carbonate, which is found in a lot of supplements, can come from oyster shells and have been known to contain lead. I don't think it's one that's absorbed easily either. Maybe do a little reading here. http://www.enzymestuff.com/calcium.htm No hyper from magnesium here, but when I was giving individual vit. B supplements, we had HYYYPER. I started out with too much instead of working up slowly, and it was probably more than they could use anyway! Is it just a standard childrens multi that you're using?
  5. Oh Carolyn, I bet we have all been through this to some extent. I go through it with my Mom (who is the best support Mom you could ever ask for) my mother in law, and even my husband to some extent. I know exactly what you mean about getting off track, when you have other people encouraging this and that, should be ok for the boys to eat, or "that should be looked at by a Dr., he may need an antibiotic." Birth Control Pills or antibiotics for your complexion, though, I guess I would gently point out that the choices that you have made so far concerning your health have worked out very well, and they're just going to have to trust you to keep making your own decisions. I was probably too thin when I was your age too. I didn't realise it at the time, but looking back at pictures, yikes! Do you feel you're too thin? Is your energy level ok?
  6. Claire, I was thinking of Houston enzymes too. They haven't helped improve my sons limited food choices, but sure seem to help tics and tummy aches. I didn't answer your question about the test arriving, sorry. It came Wednesday of last week. It took forever. I haven't even opened it yet. I wasn't kidding when I said, I hope it was here quick, or I would lose my nerve! That lab must have gotten awfully busy from the time I first heard of it. I will get it out this week. Question is...what will I do if the results are not good
  7. Chemar, If you have your sons vax record handy, I'd be happy to see if his HEP B was thimerosal free, if you can tell me the manufacturer. It's said that they started phasing it out in 1999 however, there was never a recall, and the expiration on some vaccines wasn't until 2002 or 2003. If your son developed Crohn's after the series, you can file it with VAERS. https://secure.vaers.org/VaersDataEntryintro.htm This is something parents need to know about, and USE it. It seems like many of us are never offered this report. How in the world does this system show ANY trends? You don't need a Dr. to file this. I'm wondering if you know right off hand if your son had his 1 and 2nd MMR at ages 1 and 5? It looks like some of the Dr.s didn't go with the recommendation to do the second dose at 5 and some kids got their 2nd dose at 10 or 12, I can't remember which right off hand. MS is the adverse event talked about most frequently in relation to HEP B, but measles seems to be the "gut buster." If the flora is upset or an antibiotic has been taken during the month this vaccine is given, it appears there is a greater risk. The vax. strain of measles has been found in the intestines of autistic children. This is a good site to read about the gut connection and MMR. http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org/0405-conf-awakefield.htm You can click on the other presentations in the grey box on the right.
  8. C.P. Did your Dr. do blood work? Was zinc tested? Many here have found a low zinc status, and this can also be involved in slow growth rate. I know you said that your son was taking a zinc supplement, but sometimes it can require a larger doses (with Dr. supervision) over a rather lengthly period of time. Could you comment on your sons diet? Does he crave anything in particuliar like sugar, carbs, fruit? Does he avoid protein, or does he seem to have a well rounded diet? How did your Dr. test for allergies? Was it blood work (sensitivities), or injections/skin pricks (allergies)? How was yeast testing done? Blood or urine? Sorry for so many question! Sometimes different Dr.s have different ways of testing. Some here, have a lot of experience with what tests are most reliable/beneficial, and maybe something was overlooked?
  9. Cum Passus, I wanted to share that I was talking a to a Mom this morning who lost her son this past Spring to leukemia. He was 9 yrs old, and had been through a bone marrow transplant and more medical procedures than I could imagine in a life time. She is greiving deeply, and others are avoiding the subject now. She is feeling very unable to move on. This family lived across the road from us, through the majority of his illness. He was a real testiment to life. You would not believe the pleasure this child brought to others and experienced himself, inspite of his illness. He taught myself and my sons a great deal. I'm hoping that this won't make you feel worse, but help all of us to realise that our kids, with jerks and noises, are here for us to hug, love, stay strong for, and support. There is no doubt that anything that threatens our kids health/happiness, tears our hearts out. TS can be awful to deal with at it's worst, but there are almost endless things that have helped others get past those rough phases. If you could describe a little more about your sons situation (is the vocal his only tic?), and what things you have tried without success, maybe others could respond with some helpful ideas. Have you tested for yeast, are you using any supplements, tested for allergies, or food sensitivities etc.? I'm so glad you decided to post and share feelings that the majority of us have dealt with, or are currently dealing with. Support for yourself is essential too, and you have come to the right place. Kim
  10. Mrs. D. Agree...Agree...Agree. This is an article about a situation in Norway & New Zealand. They have a vax for Neisseria meningitidis B. This is a strain that is not currently included in our meningitis vax, but does account for a % of cases. Again, look at the language about a "cover up." http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/GE0610/S00065.htm Our current vaccine, Menactra covers A, C, Y, and W-135. If you look at this statement; Death or serious illness from bacterial meningitas occurs at an annual rate of about 1.2 cases per 100,000 youths ages 11 to 19, said Davis, director of the CDC's immunization safety office. That means the risk of an unvaccinated youth getting seriously ill from bacterial meningitis is about 10 times greater than the risk of a vaccinated youth developing GBS, according to the study. [/i] They don't mention how many cases are caused by Neisseria meningitidis B. Then consider the under reporting of GBS, how true does this 10x's number hold? Once the huge population of kids with existing neuro problems start recieving this vax, what might the numbers do? If I were to have had my boys vaxed, and heard that there was an outbreak of meningitas, I would not have restricted their exposure assuming the vax. would protect them. I would not have known about the B strain, or even to ask about the fact that the infected person might have had viral meningitis. The longevity of protection from this vaccine is unknown also. They are HOPING that it's longer than the last one, which if I remember correctly was about 3 years. Something else I read early on was about tetanus. Package insert from TD vax. states http://www.vaccineshoppe.com/US_PDF/271-83_4152_4153.pdf 560 cases reported in 1947 CDC says http://www.cdc.gov/nip/publications/fs/gen/WhatIfStop.htm Tetanus is a severe, often fatal disease. The bacteria that cause tetanus are widely distributed in soil and street dust, are found in the waste of many animals, and are very resistant to heat and germ-killing cleaners. From 1922-1926, there were an estimated 1,314 cases of tetanus per year in the U.S. In the late 1940's, the tetanus vaccine was introduced, and tetanus became a disease that was officially counted and tracked by public health officials. In 2000, only 41 cases of tetanus were reported in the U.S. So the incidence had fallen by more than 1/2 prior to the use of the vaccince? Maybe due to better wound care? That fact, seems to be overlooked in the CDC statement. Their #'s seem to leave out some important facts quite often. Reading the link you posted about viral meningitas, made me think of the HIB vaccine for infants. This was an article that really made me think about the gaps created by vaccination. This article was written by someone who posts on the mothingdotcommune vaccine forum. http://www.whale.to/m/butler7.html As you pointed out, everyone must decide on an individual basis, but I sure hope parents will start holding thier Dr.s accountable for sound information, so they start holding the CDC accountable. I can tell you first hand after visiting 3 Pediatrician offices with my neice and her baby (now 6 mos. old, and currently unvaxed) The lack of knowledge of these issues was PROFOUND.
  11. Mrs. D. You have a ways to go to beat me as the doomsdayer where vaccines are concerned. Since many of us have kids who are at an age where the meningitis vaccine is going to be recommended, I thought I would post this info. here too. There is new talk about increased risk of GBS with this vax. Article GBS Association with Menactra http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/MEN...EMPLATE=DEFAULT GBS: an auto-immune disease http://www.jsmarcussen.com/gbs/uk/damage.htm http://www.cdc.gov/nip/publications/VIS/vis-mening.pdf Vax insert http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:FsBTR...k&cd=2&ie=UTF-8
  12. FDA Approves Anti-Psychotic Drug Risperidone for Use in Children Diagnosed with Autism National Autism Association urges parents and health care providers to carefully research side effects Nixa, MO - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the anti-psychotic drug Risperidone (trade name Risperdal) earlier this month for use among children diagnosed with autism, much to the concern of parents familiar with the drug's side effect profile. Manufactured by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen, Risperdal sales figures were over $3 billion in 2005. The FDA has approved the drug for pediatric use despite the fact that the agency issued a warning letter to Janssen in 2004 saying that the company had omitted information in product literature regarding hypoglycemia and diabetes, and had made misleading claims that Risperdal is safer than other drugs in the same category. Documented potential side effects of Risperidone include lactation both in girls and boys, weight gain, and development of the often irreversible movement disorder tardive dyskinesia. "Any medication that can induce lactation in boys is clearly a dangerous drug, and in my opinion should only be used when all avenues of biomedical treatments have been exhausted," said National Autism Association executive director Rita Shreffler. "Parents are faced with extremely tough decisions when it comes to medicating their children, and extra caution should be used with Risperdal in particular given what we know about it." The behavioral symptoms associated with autism are often due to undiagnosed medical issues including heavy metal toxicity, abdominal pain, constipation, parasites and food allergies. Many of these issues can be relieved by more benign interventions to address the cause of the behaviors, rather than masking them with drugs. "Medical treatments are working backwards," said NAA president Wendy Fournier. "We're prescribed pills for a headache without addressing the cause of the headache. We must start treating the cause of medical illnesses, not just covering up symptoms, especially when it comes to the complex biomedical issues of children with autism." Another Johnson & Johnson's company, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (OCD), manufactured RhoGAM, a RhoD Immune Globulin given to Rh-negative women during pregnancy and following delivery. RhoGAM exposed fragile, developing fetuses to a bolus dose of mercury-based thimerosal. The neurotoxin was used as a preservative until OCD changed production methods in 2001. Many parents and scientists believe thimerosal to be the leading factor in the increase of neurological injuries such as autism among children. "It's ironic that the same company that gave us RhoGAM now stands to further increase profits from a drug that suppresses symptoms of neurological damage consistent with mercury toxicity," commented Shreffler. "Risperdal does nothing to address the neurological injuries of children diagnosed with autism, and the potential side effects are frightening." 13. Patty, I sent you a personal message so you could see how it worked. You probably already know that, since it flashes you the little message, when you sign on. For anyone else wondering, if you click on the posters name, anywhere you see it on the page, it will bring up a page that says "communicate" on the right hand side. Go down to "send a personal message," and you will get a screen to type your message. Irena did send a message to my regular email, so there is a way to do that too, but I have never used that feature.
  14. I have to add that I really whimped out on that last post. I do thank you for bringing this to my attention CKJ, but actually this whole thing makes me mad as ****. I'm so tired of vaccines and cover-ups and half truths, and 1/2 is being generous. Just what if, some of our kids are suffering with allergies, asthma, arthritis, emotional problems, tics, eating, sleeping, sensory, diabetes, behavioral issues, Autism, BECAUSE OF THE VACCINES THEY WERE ALREADY LOADED WITH. It doesn't appear that they are going to allocate any real funds to look at this objectively anytime soon. Human beings are going to be walking pin cushions pretty soon, I guess. It would be a cold day, before I would get excited about this vax, or most any other. They are talking a hey fever vaccine too. What beauty in a program where they can create the problem, then come up with the vax or sell billions of dollars worth of drugs to cover it up. I wonder if they can hurry with one for staph, poison ivy, and all of the other illnesses, since they all seem to affect my oldest son. My youngest seems luckier, as long as he doesn't eat, he's fine. Sorry if this appears ranty, but I don't think I would even sleep my normal 3 hours, if I didn't get that off my chest. There was some other good stuff in that article, and I agree with Ronnas, the title could have used a little work!
  15. CKJ, Thanks for posting this. I just knew reading it, that it was leading up to the "V" word (vaccine) Scares the daylights outta me. You may want to read these articles too. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...agewanted=print http://www.webmd.com/content/article/92/101768.htm The study included 28 adult volunteers aged 18 to 50 who received three injections of the vaccine in varying doses between October 1999 and February 2003. After one year of follow-up, researchers found the vaccine was well tolerated and did not cause any tissue cross-reactions or other complications.
  16. Julia24, This site has some good info. on salicylate and phenols. http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm I don't know about a genetic component but I guess I would observe the kids, since many times it does seem these things run in families. Hope a Mom can comment on a good pregnancy vit. that may not irritate your tics. Some people have found this site useful in identifying supplements that may be not be a good fit. I know there are special things to consider, being pregnant. Maybe mrsdoubtfyre would be a good person to ask that question of. http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/art.../walshMP.htm#Py Be sure to click on all of the available pages at the bottom. Claire shared this shortly after I joined and it was really helpful to me when I first started trying to piece things together for my boys. It's so wonderful that you're taking all of these steps to reduce any risk to your baby. It looks like you're doing a great job
  17. Patty, Some how we got off on flu mist here, sorry, the flu shot information can be found under the package insert link. I found what Carolyn already posted. Some other interesting things about the vax. shedding, who shouldn't get it, etc. This is a LONG pdf. regarding flu mist. Vax insert Flu mist http://www.medimmune.com/pdf/products/flumist_pi.pdf Under warnings page 9 of 21 Flu mist should not be administered to persons with a history of asthma or reactive airway disease. Find vax package inserts here http://www.vaclib.org/chapter/inserts.htm#flumist
  18. I'm 99.9% sure that you are going to find that flu mist is thimerosal free. It was used as a sanitizing agent in mostly multidose vials. I believe the TD booster and the flu shots, both pediatric and adult doses, are largely where it's still found. Probably a few others, but not routinley used (rabies???) There have been reports, although not sure of the reliability of sources, where vaccines that are said to have trace amounts, were tested and had "more than trace." You should be able to find the package insert in the links that Carolyn posted. There is a thread on the sign in page of the Vaccine forum at Mothering.com right now, regarding the efficacy of the flu vaccines. Well worth reading! A few articles someone may find interesting. If you read just the last line of the first one, looks to me to back up what Claire just posted. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...l=pubmed_DocSum http://www.whale.to/m/butler7.html http://www.cure-guide.com/Vaccine_Guide/Va..._from_vacc.html http://www.vaccineinfo.net/immunization/va.../pediarix.shtml
  19. Dan, It's too bad parent's/patients aren't warned of this as a possible side effect, isn't it? The hallucinations could be a comorbid condition of TS, and there are similiar posts here where medications were clearly not involved. However, I suspect this may be a more common side effect with medications, than what's reported too. As a parent, I would certainly want to rule out the med being the cause. Can you imagine the anxiety this could create in a child? Then, you tell the Dr. that the child is worse, and many times they UP the dose. Just something for anyone using medications to be aware of. There is a young man who has become very dear to me. He was experiencing scenes of visual rage,(totally unlike him and he was feeling terrible about it) right after a new medication was introduced. At the time, I had no idea what could have been happening. Then I read an article relating to this. It appeared to pass, probably as his system adjusted, but if his dosage were to have been increased during that time, it may have escalated. That is a scarey thought, and something I would want to be AWARE of, as a possibility, if I chose to try a med with one of the boys.
  20. Dan, Congratulations on 85% reduction. I just wanted to tell you that I thought your post was full of good info. I know I have read of DMG on one of the autism bds, but could you explain what it is used for? Kim
  21. mrsdoubtfyre, What a wonderful welcomed surprise to see a post from you here. My pass word stopped working at Braintalk, and no matter how many times I requested a new one, I would never get a reply, but still read posts there frequently, before it went down. Yours were always so informative. As you can see, we can use all of the help we can get here! Thank you for this post. I give my limited eater (age 10) Nordic Naturals 3 6 9, and my older son (almost 14 and eats very well) EPA/DHA only. I have read several times, the same thing you posted about the ratio of 3 to 6 being so far off. Apparently, part of the problem started when the cattle feed went to grains instead of grass, if I remeber right. Then all of the oils (6's) that are consumed in processed and junk foods. I never saw the logic in giving more of the 6's to my older son. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and time with us Kim
  22. CKJ, In reference to this remark....."there is a person just like me, it looks just like me and is as tall as me but its not me and it tells me what to do". Could I ask if your daughter made this remark prior to starting tenex, or after?
  23. CKJ, Is your daughter currently taking any medications for TS/OCD?
  24. Patty, This post does not really pertain to flu mist, sorry, I have not read the insert on that particular vaccine, but I can help you find it, if you have trouble. These are just some of my thoughts on this issue. Here goes... If your questioning vaccines, please start reading here. It's a wonderful place to get educated. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=47 Momtezuma Tuatara aka MT is an awesome resource. Look for her posts in particular. She wrote a book called "Just a Little Prick." She lives in New Zealand. The vaccine issue has been the single most disturbing thing for me to come to terms with. I can't believe that my trust was so complete, and I was so reckless with my babies. The handwriting was on the wall, and I was so cavalier in my faith in the medical establishment, that common sense went right out the window. I would NEVER walk into a Dr.s office and let them give me 7 vaccines in one day, but many/most parents barely question it, for infants as young 2 months. I will never again be told that there is an outbreak of meningitis, and not ask if it's viral or bacterial. I will know enough to ask if it's a serotype that is even included in the vaccine. I will know that, just because my child had a vax. that they are not necessarily protected. I will know the vax ingredients, and what adjuvants are in the vaccine. An adjuvant is something that provokes an immune response, and I guess we're just supposed to hope that the response is to the intended antigen, such a pertussis, and not something like casein or strep. I will know the prevalence of the illness in question, how it can be treated in the event my child contracts it. I will not subject my boys to their SIXTH variation of the DTP/DTaP/TDaP, whatever the latest profit propaganda is perpetuating. Wonder if I could say that 3 times fast???? As you can probably tell, I have some serious reservations about the whole vaccine issue. I also feel that there is a blatant disregard for the adverse health effects that they could be, and possibly have been, setting up in our children. This is in ADDITION to the thimerosal debacle, with no end in sight, as more and more vaccines are in the works to be added to the present schedule. Here is an example of one of MT's posts on aluminum (adjuvant). I think you'll have to scroll down a bit into the thread. The poster who started this thread has info. here that is useful reading, regarding the immune system too. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=387481 I have many links and studies on file. I had done quite a bit of research before I found the Mothering Vax forum, so it was easier to understand the posts there, but it sure would have saved TIME had I found it first! This is an area, where every parent has to do their own reseach and make their own decision regarding what they feel is best for their particular child. I just want to encourage you to make an INFORMED choice. Kim
  25. Good point about the pressure, Chemar. Patty, does your son hug too hard, stomp when walking sometimes? My son would push his knee into the side of the car door, when riding.
