I would also agree that gut permeability and yeast are huge issues and complex to irradicate and repair quickly. It's a multi-layered approach. I would recommend having your dd's stool tested. Metametrix offers a comprehensive test selection which can tell you definitively what you're dealing with. Then you can begin healing her one layer at a time. Intestinal yeast is really bad and needs to be treated longer than 10 days, and her body needs support while being treated. Naturopathic doctors usually have these test kits on hand and can help select the best one. For us, it's really been a multifaceted approach that has helped the most.

Laura, you are amazing, and I don't think this sounds "new-age" at all. Ironically, it's probably the oldest form or medicine. I, too, was gangbusters on the abx hit em hard without a thought to alternatives. Since just before Christmas I have been following many naturopathic remedies. My doctor kept telling my over and over, clean the gut, methylation, glutamate, amino acids, kefir, yeast...I listened. We are doing so much better since we have cleaned up the yeast! Adding in glutathione recycler, nac, selenium, resveratrol, d3, b's. I am not converted to a purist by any means, but there is definitely something to "body heal thyself". We have had the greatest improvement in the past 6 weeks that I have seen in 4 years. God bless all you smart moms!

Wow-wee!! That sounds like an episode from the carol Burnett show...that wacky momma's family skit!! I think I might just grab that spoon outta her hand, lick it cleanly in front of her, then place the spoon under my armpit making sure she saw me -- give it a good rub and plop it back in the community pot and take my kids and scram!!! For good! -
Positive igg myco p could be of significance. Although igg is indicative of past exposure/infection, high myco p igg in some doctor's opinion is cause to treat. Dr T is the one who treated my dd after other docs dismissed at as ok. Dr T always said, "there's something about high igg myco p.". He treats with biaxin and my dd did improve. You may want to treat and retest to see if it's on the way down. My dds was +5.00> and dropped to +3.50> after a long course of abx. It took it many months to drop. We just retested and are awaiting results. Good luck.

My dd does self talk when she's in the tub or shower. She actually repeats all the things she knows she's not supposed to be anxious about, intermixed with a little singing from Adele. Seriously tho, it's like she's played back all the "beat OCD" techniques we have been inundating her with. I think the water relaxes her so completely that she can release all the pent up stress of getting through the day. Can you make out what your son is saying?

Bumble and bee is a pretty good organic deodorant, at whole foods. My daughter likes it...altho using anything grown up makes her feel neat. She still has to really "scrub" under those arms these days.

You might want to think about adding goat milk kefir. We all take it here and feel actually better. The kefir is a super excellent source of probiotics and is even a greater source of good bacteria. I use about 1/4 cup per person each day in a smoothie with pineapple juice, coconut oil and as much of the rest of the supps I can get in there without messing up the taste. I buy the redwood farms brand. Check out their website for more info on the benefits of kefir.

I am intrigued by this, as my dds one and only complete remission lasting almost 4 months came from Iv abx and steroids. I always attributed the good stretch to abx, but perhaps not?? Also, how do you decide on the dosage, as 3000 vs 7 mgs is very different. I would think you'd want enough to hit it hard, as too little is not effective. Can those who have done this add some insight? Thank you.

Here's what I know: the product is called MI Paste and MI Paste Plus. It's available through your dentist with a prescription. It is a milk-based formula so don't use if dairy allergy. It is not gritty, more like a creme and available with or without flouride. Must not eat for 30 minutes after using and does reverse decay in children and adults. Check out their website by googling mi-paste.com. My DDS dentist is very conservative and understands pandas, and specializes is treating special needs children. I trust him. If you would like my dentists name, just pm me. I cleaned out my box.

Eileen, my dd just had a dental check last week and our dentist treated her with a new toothpaste available only to professional that reverses decay with daily use...even really bad decay. He said it was a great option for cavities rather than fillings. We asked where we could get some and he said not available publically yet. I just called my dentists office and explained your situation (another pandas child) and they would be happy to talk with you to tell you how to get this paste, how it works, etc. It is called M I S paste. Pm me and I'll give you the number if my dentist if you like.

I know many of us have used combo and pulse abx for Lyme, but I seem to be reading more posts and hearing about this type of treatment for pandas. We've been on zithro, biaxin, minocin, augmentin individually with varying dosages over 3 years. In addition to clearing all coinfections, yeast, et al, are many if you now doing combo for pandas and seeing better trends? When my dd was hospitalized for what we now know was a seizure resulting from mycop, they administered Iv clarithromyicin and steroids for the seizure and cough. She had a complete recovery for about 4 months. Then all symptoms returned. We did not know we were dealing with pandas at the time, but realized how her life dramatically changed for the better! She was 8 and is now 12. We did not even hear of pandas until she was 9 and began treating. Anyway, I'd like to hear if combos have made the difference in your child's treatment.

A: It's all in the milk! Goat milk protein, carbohydrates and fats are all easily digested. Goat milk is similar to human milk in its protein composition, having more short and medium-chain fatty acids, whereas cow milk tends to contain long-chain fatty acids. Cow milk contains agglutinin, which also hinders digestion. Agglutinin causes the fat particles in milk to group together, forming clusters which can be difficult for humans to digest. I copied the above from the redwood farms site, that's the product I buy. Also don't buy nonfat, the goodies need the fats to proliferate. I mix it in a smoothie with coconut water, banana, supps, extra 50 billion probiotics a little stevia and honey. Bottoms up!

Thanks so much for your input, I appreciate it. I will start her on it tonite. I just hope the yeast isnt chronic. She's been on a billion probiotics and goat kefir, but I will add to it, add the charcoal and stop abx for a while and see what happens.
-
Well, about to start dd12 on 30 days 1/2 tsp daily on diflucan. Would you pause abx for the duration? Should I start activated charcoal or bentonite clay simultaneously? I know many of your kids experienced die off uptick in behaviors...would you keep her home from school, start Friday night so we can get a weekend under our belt? Thanks for your help!

Laura, was your dd's Epstein Barr igg antibody high? My daughter's is way high. -

Yes JAG! I get the whole "your educating...err, informing" Dr B about yeast, your tests, etc. Yes, I am HAPPY he is willing to treat but it bugs me that something like heavy yeast is poo-pooped when our kids notoriously react to everything. Yes, everybody has yeast, duh, but it's the bigger picture that gets missed. I feel like if we don't clean up everything we will not hold our gains. Naturopath also said that diflucan for short duration is not best. I'm picking up something else today (I'll let you know name) from his office for 30 days at least but is gentler. He also said for our whole family to be treated for h pylori as it's easily passed back and forth. My dds behaviors are so classically yeasty with a big ol scoop of pandas on top of it all. -

We did igenex testing for Lyme thru dr jones. In my gut I feel that there are still underlying issues. Dr b (at the time) had no idea mycoplasma igg meant anything, but dr t treats it. She did better on biaxin for sure, but then it seems to run out of gas and we make a change or take a break. Only to dive back in again and start all over. Herpes is all over the underside of her nose (she just had a cold) and gets them about twice a year. Ran tests and her titers are high. Dr b did not treat. Even after MONTHS of ivig her ganglioside gm-1 ABS indicates chronic inflammation. Her hsv 1 is off the charts. Her CD3 immune complexes are 17, normal is 0-8. I am so fed up that these docs are not better on this. My homeopath seems more focused, perhaps because he is so intrigued with my dd and is so dedicated, and he has no other pandas patients...I don't know. Nobody but me (heaven help!) is trying to hone this all together and doctor shop for answers. Maybe dr b know more since we saw him last September. The stool test is by metametrix in GA. Naturopath ordered the complete panel which cost $395 and took 3 weeks for results but I feel we should have tested long before now. He totally gets the gut/brain connection and the necessity for glutathione and the nuances of not merely giving it orally without other supps to support recycling. He mentioned MTHFR testing before I did. Coordinating this healing (as you ALL know) is H@@L!! -
Well, we are members of the yeast club. Had my dds stool tested via our naturopath and it was off the charts high. I had my suspicions all along but buried my head in the sand, not wanting to deal with yet another thing! She exhibits almost the complete list of behavioral yeast symptoms, but as you know many overlap pandas. She's been on 1000mgs augmentin lately (biaxin prior for mycoplasma) zithro for pandas -- mixing it up. Anyway, we've never gotten her to 100% remission since we discovered almost 4 yrs ago...about 75% at best, but we always backslide. Have had almost 9 months of weekly ivig...no big miracles there. No Lyme or Lyme-co, just band 41. Dr t flags that as indicative of other Lyme-like flagelite (sp). Here's the thing, she has done pretty well on augmentin, but yeast et al is dragging her down. She still has "tap everything once" OCD, anxiety, enuresis at night, but her mood has been better, math better, handwriting better. Would you stop abx and focus only on killing yeast, h pylori, and herpes? Our homeopath was not sure about stopping abx but thought we might give it a try. We see dr b at end of the month but want to have your experience. Apparently I am doing a good job with her probiotics, goat kefir. Those numbers look good. But it obviously can't keep up. Oh, we also have some gut permeability so are taking supps to address that. This stool test also did DNA to determine which abx, anti-fungals and some herbals she has resistance to. Good to know for sure. Also tests for gluten. Your advice is appreciated!

You and Ally are all prayed up! I have faith you will have great answers, Peg.

Ok, did anyone else see this?? Dr. T TOLD these parents about pandas, right? The mom is sitting there talking about the many strep infections her dd had and resulting tonsillectomy. No mention of mycoplasma as co-infection, or vaccines. AND NO MENTION of getting these girls on ABX ASAP AS TREATMENT! They are just sitting there like zombies! What the heck are they grumbling about??!! The mom is onto the train spill of 3 years ago causing the pandas! I'm sure Leroy has got hazardous junk everywhere, but let's get these treated instead of them ticcing away and looking bewildered. I'm about done with this. Sorry.

In my heart and soul I believe that my daughter's abhorrent immune response to infectious agents is primarily due to vaccines, the poisonous by-products in them, and the increasing toxin burden planet earth provides these days. I do not believe 25 or so shots/boosters prior to the age of one year is a wise schedule for any infant. Just my opinion. I very much appreciate the different points of view on this God-send of a forum, for it forces me to be a better mom, to do more research and question, question, question the status-quo. Little ol' Le Roy New York is putting PANS on the map due to the controversy of diagnosis and cause. Whether it turns out to be PANS or not, it's one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind. Those parents, parents on this blog and a few dedicated open-minded docs are making history as we speak. It will be bittersweet if ever I read an article entitled, "Are too many vaccines causing mental illness?" with the subheading, "researchers have found a link between over-inoculation and failing auto-immunity."
