Angela, that is a good concern, I really wish I could communicate this well with my son, but I don't know how to do that without letting him feel nervous. It was my little boy told me there must be something wrong and need to see the doctor when he started jerking his neck and clearing throat last May. I was so panic and couldn’t control my mood after I did a web search and end up with the devil TS! We went to see the child neurologist and talked a lot about TS and tics in front of my son with the doctor, by that day I noticed his tics was really bad, he can't even stop jerking his neck, that day I decided to stop talking the TS in front of him. I know it was too late, he caught up every single piece of information from that neurologist and told his classmates he had tics once he was in school................We send email to his school teachers about his situation, so far no kids joking on him, maybe I am wrong, who knows. Even though we never talk about his situation, one day when he had really bad tics and his daddy asked him "do you know why it happened?", and he said "A neuron problem" I was shocked! I try to let him know it is just a minor problem, and mommy did it when I was a child (but I am not), it will be ok soon. I do know it won't work, but I don't know how to really help him on accept it. Even though I took him to the different kind of doctors I always find an excuse like cough, asthma, cold something to “cheat” him, I don’t let his daddy take him in the office until I talked with the doctor first. I know it sounds silly that I try to cover him that much. He is a gifted child with very excellent academic performance, looks like he is very happy in school and didn’t pay too much attention on the tics even when his tics are really bad recently. I am still struggling on how to talk this situation with him. Any suggestion will be helpful.

Yes, you did help me a lot Pat. I am thinking about to seek the help from an acupuncturist, but here is Richmond Virginia is almost impossible. I met a girl in China when I visited my parents, she was absolutely tic free after a long term acupuncture, I believe that the Chinese traditional way may work on TS, I wish I can find someone to help my son. I shouldn't move from Houston, TX, there is a big China town with a lot good oriental medical sources.

Pat, guess what? I am a good actress now, I can hide my feeling 90% in front of my son, I can change my face from sad to happeness in .001 second once he is looking at me. Hopefully I can cheat him very well. Yes I did my best to keep him away from the food allergies, but it won't work any more, maybe we should do the Chinese food allergy test instead of American version since we eat a lot Chinese food except anything with MSG, artifical color, additives............Well, still have no clue on his trigger. He is so sentitive on stress, even play pockmon card with me or watch his favorite cartoon, read a book can make him tic more, but It is really hard for me to let him stay away from those all the time since he goes to after school program and all they play there is vedeo game and watch TV. I have never tried acunpuncture for him, but I am planning to try it on him, like acunpuncture and massage, Chises cupping.................. We live in Virginia, it is so hard to find a good Chinese doctor around, would you mind to give me some information about your acunpuncture doctor? I even trying to study those by myself now. Hi Faith, I am so hopeless now, my son has none stop clearing throat now coupled with neck jerking and shoulder shrugging, and a lot other body and facial tics. I stop visiting doctor now after we had allergy test, completely 72h culture, ASO and Anti-DNase-B Titers, MRI, mineral deficiencies or overload test to check Magneium, Zinc, Copper ect We did ELISA/Act Basic test from DirectLab, and he has strong reactions with.•Almond •Cottonseed Oil •FD&C Yellow #5 and Methylene Chloride (Dichloromethane). MODERATE REACTIONS with •Peanut •Pepper, Black •FD&C Blue #2 and •Cladosporium herbarum. I feel so hopeless since nothing works on him recently. The more I bring him to the doctor, the more pressure he will has, we have never talk about his TS before, I feel so nervous on talking with him, I don't know what is the next step to go. My son's vocal tics were out of control from yesterday, and coupled with a lot non stop neck jerking, shoulder shrugging, arms lifting.................. It is horrible, it must be something wrong, but I can't find it. Just typing this between my tears, please help!

He has no asthma, maybe some kind allergies like pollen or dust mite, I have never taken him for the further test. Could you please give me some basic idea about the NAET? Thanks Cheri,, Yes, I gave him magnesium 1/2 tsp/day of kids calm, and 25mg/time, 2/day Vb1, and VB6, and chinese message or chinese vaccum cups, anything did I miss or do I need to increase the supplements, my son is almost 8 and 66 lbs. Thanks

We are trying to figure out what is the trigger of his tics and moving away from the artificial, colored, flavored, modified, preserved additives and eating as whole and organic as possible, but the diet helps nothing. Well, I say that too early. From this Monday, my son started a new vocal tic, just like suck in some gas, I will say it sounds like burp but not that loud. It is wired since this noise often come with his shrug shoulder and life arms. Can't figure out what cause this, nothing chhanged on his diet except I add some pecans, walnuts and natural berry jam from WholeFood (no artifitical additives). And looks like he has more other tics as well as this new vocal tic. Just wondering if anyone can give me suggestion. Thanks in advance.

I started the clean diet on my ds again, and looks like his tics get much better. Thanks all for the wonderful suggestions

Hi Chari, Thanks for your feedback I started a dairy free, food color free diet Plus Kids calm again on y boy, and he looks a little bit better now. Still trying to figure out how to get "preservative free" bread since he ates a lot bread for lunch. All your suggestions would be appreciated.

Ama and Giulia, Thank you for your reply, and your suggestions. I am trying really hard to clean his diet now. MSG is not that hard to avoid since we don't eat out so often and we don't use MSG at home, but sometimes it is so hard to get rid of them from foods like salad dressing, Ranch has MSG, ketchup has HFCS, even the bread bought from food store has HFCS.......... Now I try to make everything at home, like juice, Yogurt, cake, cookie, hopefully it will help to maintain his tics. It is so hard to control his stress which was trigger of the tics, he is so easily to get stress, looks like everything can make him excited including reading, field trips, games, I will say maybe it is his anxiety and nervous. Keep fighting with tics, that is all I can do. Lele

Thanks! Well, it is a long story. My ds had very mild tics for 2 weeks before we went to China. On the day we drove to airport he had a little bit more tics, but it was ok. When we were told the airplane was delayed since the bad whether, we had to live in Detrio for one day, he started ticcing more and more, and finally non stop ticcing on the way to China even though we were upgraded to first class. After we arrived to my parents' home, he was getting better and better. We took him to see some docor in Bijing and did MRI. No suppliments was added into my sons current regiment. since we did mineral deficiencies or overload test to check Magneium, Zinc, Copper ect (a kind blood test). and all the results are fine. looks like everything is perfect even though he had some really mild tics. Even though there were somedays he had worse tics than the other, but it won't last for 2 days. Maybe I was too busy on shopping and visiting friends to pay more attention on him. His bad ticcs came back and get worse and worse after we came back from China. School started again, his tics back to his regular level. I am thinking really hard to figure it out, but still looks like a puzzle, can't tell any difference in the diet, the only thing I can concern is he has Yoplait yogurt once a day. I am 100% positive of is that stress and illness makes the tics worse. Good and bad stress. he also tics more when he is watching TV and when he's playing a game on the computer. Maybe the pressure from school is the main trigger for him? He keep working on his AR test, even though his AR is 4.5, the top score among the 2nd graders, he spend a lot time on reading everyday, reading makes him excited and he has non stop ticcing. It is really hard to stop him when he start reading. Once he is reading the AR book, he can't stop lifting arms, shrugging shoulders, jerking neck with vocal tic, nose and mouth moving..............more than 10 tics come together, but I have nothing to do to help him but wait until he finish reading, sometimes I even think about maybe the reading is his OCD?? Once he finish reading, tics get a lot better. Hi Friends, Happy new year! Just came back from China, it was a wonderful trip, my ds had a really good time, he was spoiled by the grand parents. Since my ds's tic was really mild in China, I didn't pay too much attention on that. Once we came back, his tics come back too, well, I will pray for him and keep hpoing tomorrow is another day.

I have never heard any kid has more than 15 tics at the same time, that really scared me, maybe I need to make an aapt. with the neurologist for MRI or CT. It is really late but can't fall in sleep. my son's tics were mild during the past, but they were suddenly really bad and lasting for 2 weeks, 15 different tics came together, and got really worse when he was reading or playing outside, but he looks really good when he is eating the dinner. his tics from neck jerking, eye rolling, arms lifting,jaw ticcing, clearing throat ................even bending his upperback, but he doen't show any sign of behavior problem as OCD or ADHD.... I am so panic since he had TS for just 6 months and progressed as fast as this , I can't imagine what will happen when he is 8. my heart crashed again and again we did everything we can try, take a food record, test for PANDAS, but we are ending up with nothing. we tried epsom salt, kids calm, Vb6,Vb12,.....we are waiting for the test result from the ELISA/ACT and I don't know what to do to deal with it more I have a strong feeling there must be some reason caused those non stop ticcing, but can't figure it out, any one has any experience or suggestion? I appreciate your comments and insight.

Thanks Pat. I don't kno why my son's tics more and more tics, and several new motor tics show up without any reason, he started TS just for 6 months, I am worry about what can I do if it is out of control, so worry, I don't want to start med.

Thanks Chemar, I think it is biofeedback, do you know where can I find this kind therapy, my friend in china told me her son is much better now after doing biofeedback. By the way, I am thinking about acupuncture, but hard to find the doctor in Richmond, I wish I can get some doctor's help. Thanks a lot!
