  1. My dd(11)'s cholesterol has been low since Sept 2011. It started the same time other labs became out of sorts. It ranges from 120 to 90. Prior to September 2011, it was always normal. Her triglycerides have been elevated off/on at the same time. Her latest blood work a month ago finally has her cholesterol in normal range at 136, but her triglycerides back up to 201. Has your doctor commented anymore on the low cholesterol levels?
  2. Pandasphilly- are you working with a local doctor to assist you with the MTHFR treatment and other supplements? Thanks- you can pm me if you like.
  3. My dd used to take 10 drops am/pm daily. She was 9 and 10 at the time.
  4. Happy Holidays and wishing everyone a peaceful New Year!
  5. We went on to find Lyme and Tick-borne co-infections and treated dd with combo of antibiotics. Right now she is on Amox only. I supplement her with 250+ billion cfus probiotics on most days. Sorry the flagyl is so tough on you. When you retest after the flagyl is completed, ask to run a stool test on your son as well.
  6. Hi philamom, Have you had any issues with c diff, or is this just what you are doing to prevent gut issues? My dd11 had c-diff three times. First time at age 5 she was treated with Flagyl. Eight months later it returned or she got a new infection. She was then treated with Vanomycin. Three years ago she got another infection that was treated with Flagyl. I then started her on high dose probiotics and haven't had any problems since (with clostridia anyhow) - knock on wood.
  7. I guess the different labs may have their own reference range. My dd11 just recently tested at 22, but normal range is 30-100. This was thru Quest.
  8. Yes, same with my daughter. I tried a few times and saw the same response each time. I'm getting ready to try again (day after Xmas) and will follow smarty's lead and start with 200 ius. Previously, I've tried 2000 & 1000 IU day.
  9. I suggest adding Sachromyces boulardii (Florastor) to you and your son's probiotic regime. We also use Klaire ther-biotic detox support capsules (50 + billion CFU per capsule) and Culturelle.
  10. Check your insurance on the homosytine test. Our LLMD accidentally ran it twice and our insurance (aetna) is not covering it. $200 plus X 2. Make sure it gets coded correctly. I will need to dispute the charges after the holidays.
  11. Is this a good product if you only have the A1298C mutation (homog)? Or should some of those ingredients (besides TMG) be avoided? Thanks.
  12. Has anyone used Octagam for IVIG?
  13. Does anyone continue benadryl for a few days after IVIG? If so, how many days? Thanks
  14. Dr. J just recommended 2000 iu daily for dd. Her result is 22. In the summer months she borders at normal level (30-33). I tried a supplement a few times, but she always reacted and I gave up. I'm going to have to push through.
  15. All normal. Expect physical side effects 3-4 days afterwards. My dd's sleeping patterns are thrown off as well. She stays up way later (not tired). It last week or two, then back to her normal (abnormal) sleep patterns. Good Luck!
  16. Nancy- curious the name of the Metrametix stool test you ran for $99. The one we ran from the company was $300+ prepaid. Thanks
  17. I've always just used one sample (in a cup with green lid). But it would make sense to test three different samples, since its not always present in the entire stool. I've also done the metrametix and great plains lab stool tests, both show levels of clostridia - but they are not covered by insurance. A friend of mine had severe diarrhea for some time. Her doctor told her no way it could be c-diff. I told her to get tested anyway. It came back negative. I then told her to demand to be tested again. It was then positive. She was in so much pain until treated. She went months until I told her to get tested. Come on - its just a stool sample, what is with some of the doctors these days. Now she has diverculitis (sp?). Because my dd had c-diff in the past and is on abx, I run a stool sample every 3 months - more frequent if diarrhea is present. She has on/off funky stools. Probably related to absorption issues. More likely your child doesn't have it. I just wanted to throw it out there as soemthing to check, especially with chronic diarrhea.
  18. To be on the safe side, you may want to run a Quest stool test for C-diff [toxin A & B]. C-diff can also cause constant diarrhea.
  19. Ok - I hate those little critters! Yesterday, we had some brief snow activity here in Philly suburbs. For a week now, there's been a bunch of leaves in my attached garage (way too many oak trees on my property) that I've been waiting for someone to sweep out. Well, yesterday my daughter went out to our driveway to briefly catch some snowflakes on her tongue and tracked some of them leaves into the kitchen. A little later I go to vacuum them up and saw something moving. At first I couldn't tell if it was part of a broken leaf, then it moved again. It was a tick. I placed it in a baggie to show to my hubby how important it is to keep up with the leaves. Thank god I decided to vaccum them up fairly quickly, before it ended up on one of us. Uggh. Unfortunately, if my garage doors are left open even for a few minutes we end up with a ton of leaves inside. Very important to take care of those leaves on the property - gone are the days where the kids can pile them up and jump
  20. If not allergy or detox related, you may want to look into Molluscum Contagiosum. My dd had this when younger and it was itchy red bumps that cropped up and spread. I doubt it's that, but just thought I would mention.
  21. Well, I woudn't be suprised. I believe lyme & co can wreck havoc on all systems. Happy T Day!
  22. I don't have much to offer - just wanted to send some prayers. I'm sure you're already dosing ibupropen??
  23. You'll want to factor in extra time for all activites due to the holiday crowds. FAO Schwartz is a good one for the kids- they can actually jump around on the keyboard like in the movie "Big" starring Tom Hanks. Dd would like American Girl (across from skating rink)- not so good for the boys though. There's a famous candy store - Dillards or Dillians?? There's also the Empire state bldg - but unless you purchase the ticket that allows you to bypass the lines, you will be waiting hours. We took advantage of a double-decker bus that stopped at all the famous attractions. You could get on/off at any of the stops, at your own convenience. Hope you have a great time!
  24. We're already using zofran. I try to use it sparingly.
  25. How about Emetrol? Saw it at Rite Aid last week - didn't purchase it though.
