  1. Welcome chap, I'm sorry you are worried about the vocals. My son has had very bad vocals for about 4 years now. He has had the long lasting ones that really worried me and we thought they would never go away. We put him on risperdal because we did not know what else to do it was bad. He does not take risperdal anymore, but I understand how medication may seem like the only way to go. My son also tics more with the moon. Having one of those right now. I would try the diet change and see what happens. My son has gone 3 months with his vocals waxing, then they will slow down, I don't know if I would even call it waning because they still seem bad sometimes. I truly wish you courage during this time, it can be hard, but it does get better even when it feels like it is not. CP
  2. My son's vocals went from a loud yelping to a scream after trying L-Carnitine. Try to hold out for the 2 weeks, I would want the doc. to see my son when he was at his peak. CP
  3. My son, like faith's does not have headaches other then the ones people get here and there. CP
  4. I was thinking about Gemi Monday, and hoping all went well. Don't know were she was coming from, maybe she had to stay a few days and does not have a computer with them to check in. Praying for you, CP
  5. HI, You may want to check into peppermint oil. I read that it helps with cold sores. CP
  6. myrose, I'm really sorry this is causing you so much worry. I'm not sure if I fully understand what is your daughters dx? I thought she had some questionable brain activity in a test the neuro did last year, and she was not a ts child? If you could clear this up for me so I understand I would be happy to ask what Dr. Sims thinks about your case if she is not a clear ts child. CP
  7. Myrose, Sorry if you already told us this, but what did the Dr. say about when or if you saw her returning back to her pre-topimax state? CP
  8. Just a side note for anyone thinking about taking the trip to MD, and are concerned about the cost to travel. If it sounds like a lot and the thought of having to spend 3 days is a little biting to the wallet I just wanted to let you all know who have never visited this area that DC is loaded with "FREE" things to do. Just thought that may take the sting out of the $$$$. CP
  9. MT, I will have my husband ask when we go, as I'm sure he will want to know himself. CP
  10. OH wouldn't that be a blessing if this was the answer to all our prayers. I live in VA about an hour from his office so he knew we were close. Around here in the DC area an hour travel time anywhere is a good time. I will let you know right away what he says so you have time to change your plans. What kind of tics are in your family? My son is mostly vocal and has been as bad as one could be to the point of screaming. If he can help him I'll be thanking this man for the rest of my life. God Bless, CP
  11. mylittleangel, Do you live within driving distance of MD? I'll be praying. This is good ccc appt. is July 13 ours is the 14th and yours is the 20th we should have some good info to bounce off each other. CP
  12. Thank you all, Look forward to the visit, Bonnie. Thanks for the PM, Faith, I wish I had read about not bring attention to it before I asked him if he noticed a new tic while driving, because now he is looking off to the side too. I hope you are right and this passes with more time behind the wheel. My husband does not do any tics while driving and I thought my son would be like yours, Chemar, focused so much he would not do any tics. Thanks to you all for your reply. CP
  13. HI All, Anyone with a son or daughter or even an adult with ts your advice is welcome. I have noticed that my son's normal vocal tics turn into an eye squeezing tic while he is driving. This has really scared me. I'm not sure if he is just changing it because he is driving with someone in the car or if he himself does not like to hear his noises while driving. Anyone have different tics pop up while driving? Thanks, CP
  14. ALL, We recieved in the mail some paperwork Dr. Sims wants filled out before hand, and one is from Yale Child Study Center Tourettes Syndrome. This is a very good questionaire, asking for a motor tic checklist, then a phonic tic checklist. Age of onset, what were tics like at "worse ever" period. 58 questions on OCD symptoms, and there severity. It asks about family history, evvironmental effects on tics/ocd. CP
  15. Hi Bonnie, My son does a lot of what you say your guy does, only he does not cry just gets very upset. I find it in sports he is playing and also pro teams that lose or play poorly. I feel it is an obsession with my son that the only outcome should be a win. He was so upset at the first two games pitts lost in hockey that I shaved a "P" to the back of his head and told him Pittsburgh would win now. Thank goodness they did or I would be in the doghouse all summer. CP
  16. faith, My husband has talked with Mr. Sims, and he did explain somewhat about what he has discovered. I have not had a chance to talk with hubby yet but he did make an appointment with the Dr. in July for our son. My husband said he is taking a wait and see. The first appt. is 2 hours long. I kind of had the thought maybe it was something like he was treating tmj and found that it also helped with the tics someone with tmj may have had. You know how you find other things work while you are treating something else. I'll let you know how the appt. goes. CP
  17. mel, The best thing I can say about risperdal is it really helped more then the dr. even said it would. I think it was .5mg I can't remember that was 2/3 years ago. My son was 12yo at the time so I understand how you must feel with a 15yo. My son is 15yo now and his attitude can be a bear sometimes so I can see why you and he may want the peace. Again good luck, CP
  18. mel, My son took the risperdal for about 6 months. It took about 3 weeks to see any help, but my son was screaming at that time. It then worked about 75% on the tics. We weaned him off for his summer vacation and it gave him dizzy spells for about 5 weeks. The only side effect was sleepiness for him. I do believe just like the vits. for my son is, vit. and meds work for a time then don't seem to work. It did help clear my head during a very very bad time for him. I would say only use them if all else has failed and it is the last hope you have of calming them down. Goog luck and remember God does work through medication too. CP
  19. I gave the info on these Drs to my son's ortho. she is going to read up on that, and consult me and my husband. She is very sensitive to my son's TS, so I will see what she thinks and how his braces now play a roll. Dr. Sims in MD, Dr. Stack is in Northern VA, who knows may be she knows them. CP Anybody else have a good DDS they would like to discuss this with?
  20. I would like to know how this Dr. could explain why the dopamine blocker meds work, or why fish oil makes tics worse. And if this is jaw related then why is it boys who get ts more? Could he explain the jaw growth between boys and girls? Just so many questions. Are you all wondering the same things? CP
  21. Chemar, all you are doing is posting the fear we all are thinking in the back of our minds. I'm glad you are out there because sometimes you say something I have forgotten. I think char is right we need to hear from parents who have spent the $$$ and would believe in the results so much they would be shouting from the rooftops. I'm worried my son would have some sort of oral issue with this thing, he already can't keep his fingers off the braces. I can see why Chemar's son would think this could cause a tic, I've been wondering that myself. CP
  22. OH MY, $3000! I have already paid in full $5000 for my son's braces. I could see that maybe my husbands jaw was realigned during his growth and that is why he no longer has tics, but I have a hard time understanding about all the tic triggers out there. If this is a jaw issue why are the tics triggered by food, chem. allergies, ect... On the other hand my son is underdeveloped in all parts of his body so that makes sense too. CP
  23. Thank you Chemar, My husband is going to study all this tomorrow and he will make the phone call to the dr. He feels he could explain more about his own tics as a kid and and see if we want to make the app. I don't know if he can do anything with my son's braces at this time. We are only about an hour from his office so this would be worth a trip for us, but I really need to know if the vocals are helped, our son really does not have motor tics. CP
  24. I'm sorry I don't mean to sound like a dummy, but I can't pull up any info from this web page. I have watched some of the case videos, but where it the written info on TS from this Dr.? Can someone help. CP
  25. Hi Maryann, Did your dd take an epsom salts bath yet? My son, 15yo too, plays so much sports and he does complain about sore legs, sometimes its arms. He says it does go away after the baths. I have offen wondered if my sons problem was like what weight lifting does to the muscles. Maybe a guy could explain this better, but why one does not weight lift the same muscles two days in a row. Maybe your daughter just ran her heart out that day and needs those leg muscles to repair themselves. CP
