Patty our acupuncture therapist does the cupping along with reflexology and massage simultaneously while the needles are in place If the needles are hurting your son then they are not being correctly applied...acupuncture should not hurt if he is just stressed by the procedure, then I agree, acupressure plus maybe reflexology would be very beneficial

Patty I just want to mention that "bloodwork for bacteria" is not the same as blood test to assess elevated streptococcal antibodies (Anti-DNAse B and Antistreptolysin titers (ASO)). The strep antibody titre tests are very specific!

The Treatments that have Helped My Son
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
bumping up for newcomers who have PMd me, and also to add link to a 2006 update on our son http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=1144 -
Hi Deanna mag/cal and taurine are best given in the evening as mag seems to promote restful sleep the dose sounds correct for a single daily dose each evening to me unless your doctor said to do differently do be sure to encourage your child to drink lots of pure bottled water with the supplements

Hi Laurie yes, I have seen your post re PANDAS on the other thread and yes, I do think you need to check into your son possibly having these tics related to PANDAS here is info on PANDAS from the NIMH http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/pdn/web.htm as we didnt have a PANDAS situation, Iam not the best person to give you info on this Ronna and ad_cll (Alison) know a whole bunch more about it than I do also a search for the subject under their user names by using the search feature at the very top right of the page will bring up loads of info I have to go out, but hope the others will post more info for you soon...and do please just keep asking specific questions remember too that a strep throat swab alone is NOT ENOUGH to show a PANDAS dx...it must be a blood test to show the strep antbodies as explained in that other thread...in your case however, a throat swab is necessary to show if you have the strep throat and for him too.....but the thraot swab will not be enough to show whether he has PANDAS (hope that was explained clearly) back later
-
Hi yes, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that suggests viral/bacterial and fungal infections can be major tic triggers, and the growing research into PANDAS & PITANDS further supports this

Hi Patty and welcome I dont have personal experience with NAET so cannot comment there I just do want to mention that our experience over the last 7 years has been that once you find something that works...stick with it! and make any changes with caution and slowly! Because we are all such unique individuals and because, if your child has Tourette's as opposed to tics induced by other factors alone, the fine tuned biochemistry can be turned upside down if we add substances that, although inherently good, may just not be suited to that particular individual It is very possible that your child is reactive to one or more of the UNDA remedies being used. I know nothing about this type of treatment so I stress again I am just speculating...not saying this as a fact you mentioned that at one point your son was responding favorably to the acupuncture, chiropracty and supplements recommended by the Chinese Medicine practitioner.....and that it was when the allergy remedies were added that the tics intensified. That would be a red flag to me! anyway, I dont want to add to your confusion but rather just to let you know that this is a fine line we all have had to walk, and that yes, I think you are wise to stop everything and then GRADUALLY begin again, preferably with those things that proved helpful at the start...and then move slowly forward. Please dont see this as a hopeless journey you have been on Patty....many times the right treatments are a trial and error thing and yes, of course you are upset, this is your precious child!....but as so many of us who have been thru the frustrations of trying to find what works can attest....it IS worth it. Do stay in touch here too as I know our other members will add their experience and knowledge and always be here to support you whether it is info you need or just because it is good for you to be able to talk and have understanding listeners a (((hug))) for you too...........you are clearly a very special mom

Non-toxic plate and bowl recommendations?
Chemar replied to Claire's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Daniel yes, there are ranges of glass cookware for stove top cooking CorningWare "Visions" are the ones we use -
irena i like enamelled steel best for frying (which I do very little of) I avoid all aluminium cast iron can leech and rust so I avoid that there is also glass stovetop, oven and microwave cookware that I personally like very much also remember to discard all teflon coated utensils ( egg flips etc)
-
hi Daniel...good to see you yes, we had a thread running here a while ago about the dangers of Teflon and other non-stick cooking utensils I try to use clear glass for just about everything these days

Carolyn why not just TELL them you only want testosterone tested. they cant force you to have the others done and as a patient you have the right to say what you would like tested. So simply say you will have the testosterone tested for now and may consider the others at a later time I get really irritated by docs who dont listen to their patients

Hi Laurie and welcome to Latitudes ACN Forums you have found a great place to receive support and also to find lots of great info to make the TS journey easier do also take a look at the homepage at http://www.latitudes.org for more to help you, especially the articles on Tourette Syndrome again, welcome and we look forward to having you as part of this caring sharing group
-
Hi I just wanted to welcome you to Latitudes Allergists specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies ( food and environmental) whereas I think the enviro docs cover a much broader field....I dont have personal experience with Enviro Docs so hopefully someone who does can give you more details
-
Carolyn i agree with Giselle that you need to be careful about changing your hormonal balance beforeyou know just what your levels are the saliva tests are now routinely done for hormones once hormones are out of sync it can cause a whole pile of probs and it can take a long time to get things back to baseline again i honestly have never heard of women using saw palmetto.. dont forget those other acne tips i gave you. facial hair can always be safely removed, but getting unbalanced hormones back in tune is a whole nother story!

I just found this fable, and it made me think how very appropriate to place it here, for anyone who may be worried that they or their child cant fully realise their potential
-
(((Irena))) thanks so much for sharing your heart and your prayer with us As I mentioned on that other thread, we members here at Latitudes are represented by many different faiths and also welcome our members who choose to have no religion. So I hope no one will be upset that those on this thread have shared their spiritual heart. It was a thread that meandered and showed that we had found great comfort in our faiths during our struggles as parents of children with Tourettes and tics etc, but it by no means excludes our dear members who are of different philosophy. Reading back over this thread and seeing the words of that song about the dad so worried about his son, (He's my son by Mark Schultz) made me remember just how very scared and fragile I was in those early days of our TS journey. And now, even tho my son still has TS and those periods (like now) of waxing tics, yet I see too how God has blessed him through his struggles and grown him into such a fine young man, with courage and determination and compassion. And I look at myself and know I could never be where I am had I not had God to lean on and to trust through all this There is another song about a parent's prayer of hope for their child, that I would like to share and which I hope will encourage everyone here

hi Deanna yes...that is correct...if you supplement separately with taurine you dont need to give mag taurate
-
there is also a wealth of info on the gluten/celia board at BT2, especially the sticky threads http://forums.braintalk2.org/forumdisplay.php?f=13

Hi Carolyn...no actually, his acne just cleared! But he was real good at taking LOTS of water to help with the die off toxins and also had his acupuncture/ biofeedback which helped too also, the anti candida diet we followed is a lot different than many I see recommended and I believe we had a more gradual elimination and less die off reaction because of that
-
Hi carolyn I know that our physician has a very different take on an anti candida diet than most, but it has worked ok for us and is a lot less restrictive HONEY was actually recommended for us (dark pure) as it is known to aid in candida removal here is some more on that http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=96 we cant use xylitol as it gives us digestive probs 9laxative effect) tho I know many people do just fine with it
-
Hi Deanna the taurine is usually ok around 500mg per day. Magnesium taurate isnt easy to find and can be ordered at http://www.vitmainshoppe.com or purchased at their local stores as mentioned in that section by mrsD celated magnesium is good, but mag citrate CAN have a laxative effect also remember it is good to have the calcium:magnesium ratio balanced as a 2:1 Hydroxyapatite is calcium phosphate, naturally found in our bones
-
(((Deanna)) yes, calming words sure canhelp us get back in focus during those times when we feel so flustered and afraid! although this board represents people of many many different faiths, and also those who prefer to remain without religion, yet we once had a thread running that I know brought a lot of comfort to many so in that broad ecumenical and universally inclusive spirit.......... here is the link again http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=489
-
hi Deanna mrsD has a really good thread going on magnesium at BT2 http://forums.braintalk2.org/showthread.php?t=1138 quoting from that thread ( I have bolded the mag oxide info) I have invited mrsD to join us here when she gets some time in her mega busy schedule as her general knowledge on supplements is remarkable!
-
hi Deanna those calcium.magnesium/zinc levels recommended by your naturopath seem fine in my opinion however I would strongly recommend NOT ever using magnesium oxide
