  1. Hi faith yes, it occurred to me that the mama/papa bird in each of us would resonate with watching this incredible display of God's creation instinctively doing their parenting. I am already deeply attached to those three lil eaglets and most impressed at mom and dad! I keep the cam minimised here at my computer and so I peek in all day while I am working It was so inspiring for me to see how the mother eagle was protecting them during the high winds and rain this morning HERE IS AN UPDATE!!!! I will be watching
  2. I thought maybe you and your kids would appreciate this awesome live web cam view of an eagle's nest in Norfolk Virginia Botanical Gardens I have been watching for a few days now and it is amazing every now and then mom and or dad eagle fly in with food for the 3 chicks remember this is on eastern Std time and so will be dark from sundown to sunrise each day enjoy! http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle.html Cheri
  3. glad it went well Faith just do remember that a 504 plan or an IEP is really a very big protection for you and your child as then the school is legally compelled to abide by the accommodations listed........as I discovered, this is really important when you get even just that one teacher or counselor or whatever who maybe doesnt "get it" we got my son's 504 plan back in elementary and I have insisted on renewing it every year. It even applies if a child changes schools. Sometimes schools try to steer parents away from getting a 504 or IEP in place, because the schools know that it is legally binding on them and that they HAVE TO comply with it. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain to get one in place for a student who needs accommodations medically.academically, socially, emotionally. Just adding this in for your future consideration it is good that you clearly have a helpful and co-operative group at your school
  4. some prefer the acetyl Irena but we have always used just L-carnitine
  5. an excellent book on candida "yeast" infection The Yeast Syndrome: How to Help Your Doctor Identify & Treat the Real Cause of Your Yeast-Related Illness by John P. Trowbridge & Morton Walker
  6. my son is using his regular magnesium supplement and only takes natural calm if he needs it's sleep/ relaxant or digestive properties I think that, as with regular supplementation, once needs to try to guestimate dietary intake where possible and add supps dosage accordingly, including natural calm
  7. interesting on th cal/mag balance there it was Bonnie who once told us that it was necessary to have a 2:1 cal: mag ratio yet I notice that in the Bontech TS-plus supps the ratio is now 1:1 http://www.bonniegr.com/ts-PLUS%20CONTROL.htm
  8. juls I decided to get expert opinion from mrsD as she is so clued up on supplements here is her reply....it seems that my son may be a bit unusual in that a low daily dose of Inositol works very well for him for OCD and anxiety here is mrsD's response http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=17486
  9. Hi Patty yes, there is a lot of good info re local pure honey and allergy relief. Some local holistic therapists also believe in propolis and local royal jelly for help with allergies. plus honey is sooooooooooo good and filled with natural antibiotics/antimicrobials too
  10. Laurensmom...not quite sure what you mean there by "not the Latitude PC thing to do" as mentioned before, my son always takes his supps with milk or chocolate milk the only reason milk should be avoided is when there is allergy or sensitivity to dairy/lactate
  11. Hi Kitty yes, mag citrate is does have a laxative effect and is also the form used in natural calm if you can find mag lactate, that is the very best absorbable form try to stay away from mag oxide as it is poorly absorbed Also, many people with TS use magnesium taurate, ie magnesium + taurine, both of which help with tics here is an excellent thread on magnesium by mrsD (mrs doubtfyre) who is a qualified pharmacist and also an expert on supplements http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=1138
  12. Loren & Dedee when a "yeast" infection occurs in either the mouth, gut, genitals etc...it signifies an overgrowth of Candida albicans. it often occurs after antibiotic use as the antibiotics kill off all the good microbes (aka flora) and so, the conditions are fertile for yeast infection a good probiotic (I still like kefir and live culture yoghurts best) restores the good flora and this in turn, along with dietary modifications and natural yeast busters like candida clear by NOW and Threelac, or(as a last resort) drugs like nystatin ..helps to eradicate the yeast Candida infections are believed to be at the root of many of the ilnesses and ailments that plague our modern day society, with the overuse of antibiotics and the ingestion of a very poor diet, loaded with the sugars and starches (and alcohol) that candida thrives on
  13. Loren the natural calm is best mixed in with hot water, the way the directions on the tub indicate one can then add icecubes if needed I havent tasted the Kid's Calm, but we have original and raspberry here and my husband and I prefer the tang of the original flavor, while my son prefers the raspberry overall tho,my son has opted to stick with his mag supp as he just doesnt really care for the Natural Calm effect as much as his supp and of course the epsom salts tub I also think it would be yuck in iced tea
  14. L carnitine and Taurine are both helpful with tics, with Taurine generally being the one that is given most often, especially in combination with magnesium however, it seems that for vocal tics L carnitine works well IF it is well tolerated by example, my son took L carnitine(500mg) each day very effectively (he had a very piercing screaming tic) once the tic had subsided, he went off the L carnitine for about a year. He developed a new squeaking vocal tic and I reintroduced the L carnitine (same dose, same brand) yet that time it made him feel very edgy and spaced out If you try it,,,i would start at 250mg/day and work up if needed
  15. Kitty you may want to check the shipping on iHerb.com for next time...they also sell the 16oz Natural calm for less than the 8oz charge in health stores.....their domestic shipping is very low and I would imagine they are very resonable on international too. http://www.iherb.com/store/ProductsList.as...rbs&cid=PTG
  16. Alison here is the link to the all of the Natural Calm products on iHerb note that these are the 16oz sizes and being sold for what health stores normally charge for 8oz!! iHerb's shipping is very reasonable too http://www.iherb.com/store/ProductsList.as...rbs&cid=PTG
  17. one needs a FREE subscription to PubMed to access the full articles http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?...pter.pubmedhelp Bonnie also has info on her magesium research on her website http://www.BonnieGr.com
  18. I know we have posted the link to this before, but as we have so many new members and so much discussion on magnesium, I thought it would be good to post it again http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...&dopt=Books
  19. I am so glad it went well for you CP Having educators who are helpful and understanding makes SUCH a difference doesnt it.
  20. welcome Kitty glad you are seeing good results from the mix you are giving I used to be resident in the UK, but now live in Florida so am not too sure of what is available to you there. I can attest to the fact that, for my son, beginning a supplement program and non-artificial additive diet that was tailored to his specific needs, was the best thing we ever did re his tics and other symptoms too, and for his overall health and wellbeing.
  21. hi mommy I would recommend asking on the Tourette board as many parents there with PANDAS experience
  22. Dedee i am unaware of not being able to mix inositol with milk??? and my son usually takes all his supps with milk without any adverse effects
  23. Juls here is iHerb's Health Encyclopedia info on Inositol high doses are sometimes used in adults we have never gone above 650mg per day as that is what out doctor recommended, especially as we also had samE/methionine and 5HTP in his regimin I have found that for my son, it is often best to remain at minimum dose to see the most effect...we always start him on lowest dose and then move up if needed..we have frequently found that upping the dose doesnt help...if anything, it sometimes has the opposite effect That is my son tho and other kids may be different Others may have experience with inositol at higher doses
  24. hi kkver actually, research has shown that people with Tourette Syndrome are deficient in magnesium, and that is why supplementing with mag helps them Bonnie Grimaldi, who markets the successful BonTech range of supplements for TS, has done a great deal of research into this here is a link to one of her papers http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...&dopt=Books
  25. Hi Jennifer and welcome to Latitudes It is very possible that this is what is known as a "transient tic" especially as it seems you had these kinds of tics yourself once. and yes, the more one draws attention to any tic, the harder it is for the person not to do it!! Stress is by far the biggest tic trigger of all it would surprise me if such a young child had reflux disease.
