Suzan Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Today dd9 said “Oh my God, what just happened?!” She said her eyes moved quickly back and forth and then she couldn’t see for a split second, like her eyes rolled up in her head or something. She said she only felt it in her eyes but I remember her holding her head. The first thing I thought was a seizure but then I thought tic, it was like a muscle spasm, can you have those in your eyeball? It only happened once. Anyone ever heard of or experienced this? I am feeling worried about it. She's had lots of emotional liability and pain. She did have a chair fall on her at school and she has a sore spot on the top of her head. I am so used to ignoring the weird things that go on with her. I don't know when to be more concerned. Susan
Stephanie2 Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Well, since it only happened once, there is no telling what it is. In my experience, when my ds2 was 15 months and experiencing his first exacerbation after confirmed strep, he had either an eye tic or opsoclonus-myoclonus of the eyes (movements that were very similar to what you are describing - and he would look at me sometimes as if to say "what happened?"). It lasted for 2 months and I also thought seizures. We did a 24 EEG at that time that came back normal. Check out this link. O-M post strep

Susan Hi Susan, You might want to take a look into nystagmus and myoclonus - Both are known to be possible post strep, post mycoplasma, post whatever ... :-( neurological symptoms I personally suffer from both post strep, post ... - Wishing you and your daughter the very best -
Rowens1214 Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 can you develop just myclonus after strep without the eye problems. just wondering because my husband and his sister both have been diagnoised with myclonus dystonia. is this the same thing. MY sister in law is 52 and had chronic strep as a teen. my husband was told he had RF then SC and later in life he was told it was spasmodic myclonus. Now my 15 ds has PANDAS and my 7 year old has started having have head shoulder movements. any thoughts on this!!
tpotter Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Yes, nystagmus is definitely a possibility. My son was hospitalized after he suffered severe nystagmus, almost fell over our banister, because he got so dizzy, then couldn't stand, got terrible tics, and then a 104 fever, tested positive for rapid strep, and his chorea skyrocketed in the hospital. They still wouldn't believe the dx of PANDAS (the neurologist told us it was "voodoo!"
Suzan Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Thanks All.... Feeling better about it now. It has not happened again at this point so I feel better about waiting to see what happens. Susan
