mkur Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Parents refer to wide eyes and I was wondering what do they mean? Are the child's eyes always opened wide? or do they have episodes of wide eyes like during panic attack? or do they have staring spells? etc. Thanks for helping me to understand.

In my boys they get the wide/wild eyes when they are in exacerbation and really stressed. The look panicked and scared and pissed all at the same time. Hope that paints a picture
kimballot Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 My son looks wide-eyed and "hypervigilant"... He is panic stricken and looks like he just heard a noise in the dark.
justinekno Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Deer in the headlights kind of look? kimballot said: My son looks wide-eyed and "hypervigilant"... He is panic stricken and looks like he just heard a noise in the dark.

Extremely abnormally large pupils in my boys, especially during an episode. I actually had to take pictures in May of my youngest. I believe it was his first full blown episode and the first five days after testing positive for strep he had all the crazy symptoms and his pupils were extremely dilated in comparison to his brothers in the same light, same standing position and camera position. CRAZY to look at and then add the baby talking and yikes...kinda of creepy and makes you feel so sorry for them!
JAG10 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 My dd10 eyes looked "blacked out" like you could barely tell she has hazel eyes.
tpotter Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Before I knew that he had PANDAS, and before I knew it was associated with PANDAS, I was telling our doctor that it looked like he was a tiger ready to attack!
matis_mom Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Puffy eyelids and dilated pupils. Dear-in-the-headlights, panic-striken.

Even when the actual demeanor isn't panicky at all. The pupils react to light though. They do constrict when I test him with a flashlight. So pupillary refelex is normal and shows there is neuro issues but no damage per se.
