I was just wondering if anyone is seeing in themselves/their kids weight gain on the antibiotics? I was taking omnicef and now augmentin. I gained ten pounds on the omnicef with a huge stomach bloat (honestly, I could have been mistaken for being five months pregnant). Since switching to the augmentin, the bloat went away in the first two days, but I'm not losing the weight. I'm moving more than I have in years since I feel so much better, and I'm eating better too. It's just kind of frustrating. All my clothes are still fitting and my family doesn't see any sudden rolls haha. Is it some sort of retention?

Sorry, hope you all don't think I'm superficial, especially with all of the other problems pandas causes. I'm just wondering if this is the antibiotics fault or if I need to up the pilates.

P.S. So happy we got the Pepsi grant!!!

My son appears extremely bloated, and I'm taking him to the dr. tomorrow about it. I'm going to ask about giving him Nystantin, because I really think it may be yeast. He's taking sacchromycin like Dr. K. and several other doctors have said to do, but I don't think it is completely working.

I'm interested in this. My son has gained a LOT of weight since starting abx. He did also do a 30 day course of pred back in the beginning and ate a ton and gained a lot, but it hasn't remitted. He doesn't really eat that much now (and the steroid burst was 7 months ago) but has continued to gain. He's gained like 30 lbs in the past year, most of it in the past 10 months since starting abx. I don't know what to think. He's always been at the top of the charts for height and weight because he's naturally a tall, big kid, but he looked thin and fit before. Now he looks heavy.

Have you had your thyroid hormones checked lately? The interplay between thyroid hormones and the immune system is complex.

My ds..like myself has hypo thyroid....oddly we are both very thin...

and ds has lost like 5 lbs the last month....summer/hot/mostly just wants to drink

i've lost more than 10lbs over the past year do to this nonsense....i must have lost it from my earlobes as i can't imagine where it came from...

i asked doc about why i wasn't heavier..don't exactly remember but he said something about matoblism adjusting. don't ask, not sure

Anyway ...i just don't want him to know have to weight issues after all this..being a little too lean is healthier than being a little too big

OOOHHHHH it just dawned on me!!!!!!

see link below...a bacteria is related to people being unable to loose weight....so if the abx/steroid is killing off stuff and letting this bacteria over grow....

maybe this could be it..

OK - I thought it was just my son! Yes we have had weight gain. I blamed it on compulsive eating before ABX, but it has really escalated in the last month since being on omnicef. He also has not been very active due to his sinus surgery (I think)

My son is really out of shape, which I've never seen before, and he cannot even walk through the mall without holding on to my shoulder for support.

I've even been wondering if there might be some rhematic fever going on here...

Any suggestions / ideas are welcome!

My dd (now almost 10 years old) has been on 250mg/day of Azith. for over 2 years. She's still skinny! She's also on 10mg/day of Prozac. BTW, Anorexia is/was one of her PANDAS symptoms, so we wouldn't mind some weight gain as a side effect, but it hasn't happened to us. (Well, she has gained weight over the past 2 years b/c she's grown...but her BMI is still skinny.)

Last year we had actually seen the endo, because Allie was just not gaining weight, though she was getting taller. She was unhealthy looking thin, w/ eating issues her whole life. She did start to gain w/ abx treatment, really, prior to the steroid burst at the beginning of last October, she was still pretty scrawny. (yet, unbelievably strong!) The steroid seemed to jumpstart puberty! At age 10, she had started some of those early signs of puberty (breast buds, a little pubic hair)...but for 5 years it stayed just that way. The 5 days of steroid really made puberty occur overnight (well, maybe it was a few weeks)...Her body VERY quickly became womanly! But, she is very "buff"-muscular and fit...gaining weight, yes, but now she looks healthy instead of emaciated, not at all overweight.
