Tamistwins Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Hi, One summer my daughter got a pimple on her stomach that I thought was a bug bite. It wad swollen and painful. Then a few smaller ones appeared around the larger one. The pediatrician said it was foliculitis. Was a staph infection. My son used to get a swollen pimple on his nose. They both have pandas and got frequent strep infections before age of 2.
Stephanie2 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 My 2 year old has sudden onset pandas symptoms whenever his impetigo flares (which after a year fo trying the standard treatments, I finally switched to holistic and found much more efficacy - I'm guessing b/c there is no antibiotic resistence issues with natural abx). We were not able to get a good swab on him b/c I refused to keep him off abx long enough to allow the swab to be accurate (b/c I could not handle the psychotic behavior that long), but we DID get a positive throat culture for STAPH in his big brother AND I developed a staph infection, all at the same time as a big impetigo flare 6 months ago. So I am certain it is staph. I don't quite understand why he reacted so badly to staph, but then again you have to wonder if there was a little strep in the mix as well... The derm was fascinated by the connection to pandas, very open minded. She even had a very good consult with our DAN doctor and she learned a few things...
