MomWithOCDSon Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 What is sawtooth? Thanks!! May Hi May -- There's another thread on here somewhere (maybe search "abbreviations") that explains some of the basics in that regard. Meanwhile, when it comes to the "lingo" of PANDAS, I can say that it's something that comes over time, as you read and absorb and participate on these boards. "Sawtooth" is just an illustrative term for the healing pattern many of us have seen in our kids . . . kind of like the teeth on a hand saw, where they are jagged and have peaks and valleys. Typically, by "sawtoothed healing" we mean that our kids will appear to improve for a period of time, but then there may be not just a plateau but an actual reversal in the process, with some of the behaviors you'd thought were abandoned showing back up for a period of time. "Saw-toothed" meaning not smooth, not always on a measurable trajectory, jagged, uneven.
peglem Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I am a newbie and I am having troubles with some of the abbreviations and what I think might be slang in many of the posts. Is it possible to write out the full words with the abbreviation in parenthesis, and thereafter, use the abbreviations? And perhaps limit the slang. What is sawtooth? Thanks!! May And please, always ask if you don't understand!
thereishope Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I think many of us just have a small window to type hence the abbreviations ds-dear son ......sometimes they will add a number after to indicate age dd-dear daughter dw-dear wife dh-dear husband dx-diagnosed abx-antibiotics abs-antibiotics ped-pediatrician Are there others?
bubbasmom Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I agree with Vickie, although the abbreviations take a minute to click in our minds sometimes, most of us have lives that are utter caos and we have to 'steal a minute here or there' to even get on here. What little time we get online is no longer spent searching the news or chatting with friends, we spend every spare moment we have researching and discussing our child's disease. But Vickie your abbreviation list helped me too and I've been here a while now. So thanks.

Sheila Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Thank you for starting this thread, Parents4eyes, and sorry for the confusion. Abbreviations can be difficult for newbies, but please be patient--you will quickly get used to them. I've been planning to pin a list for new people but never got around to it. Maybe we should also add the names of Drs: Dr B, Dr L etc. Would everyone please think about any other terms you think need to be on the list and we will get it pinned? Thanks! Sheila
thereishope Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Also be patient with us. I go on this forum daily for a year and sometimes I don't even realize what I'm typing may be slang to others. My husband doesn't research PANDAS or go on forums. When I try to explain something to him he looks at me like I have 3 heads. Thought of another one... BBB-Blood Brain Barrier Edited April 15, 2010 by Vickie
