Both my 5 and 2 year old boys have PANDAS, very straight-forward cases. My 2 year old developed eye tics when he was 18 months old and the neurologist checked for strep and we found it in the stool analysis! Anyway, his PANDAS episodes appear to be getting worse (well he's 2 so everything gets worse!) and he is having a hard time fighting his current impetigo infection which has been going on for months now. He is on his 3rd high-dose antibiotic. He seems fine when on antibiotics, but when he goes off his impetigo comes back along with his pandas symptoms.

Would any of these docs even be willing to do IVIG on a 2 year old? I'm not quite ready right now, but I can't do this all over again. My 5 year old has put me through the wringer over the years and I just want to get both of these kids under control so that we can live a normal life!!

Thanks,

Stephanie

Have you tried a steroid burst for the 2yo? I think you're right to get on this quickly there is some very crucial child development going on at 2 years old and you don't want this crap fouling that up!

I agree and not to mention he is quite speech delayed (he has had 3 words since he was 10 months old and he still only has 3 words, if that). He also had early signs of autism at one point. He no longer has the autism signs, but sometimes I wonder what all this pandas and antibiotics can do to him in the long run.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion about the steroid burst. I have been sitting here thinking about emailing his DAN doctor about that very thing. I know he would be willing to do it, I just worry what all these meds will do to his immune system while he is trying to fight impetigo, ya know?

I haven't asked Scott b/c I'm not quite there yet in being ready to do it. I think that he would be willing to do it, especially if his immunology labs come back low. But I have heard that Dr. K would not treat a child that young and I am wondering what other docs out there are saying about the real young ones. Scott did my 5 year old's IVIG a couple weeks ago. By the way, if I did not already mention it, you may want to push for higher dose IVIG with Scott. He normally does 1 g/kg, but I know he recently agreed to do 2 g/kg for a 14 yo girl and I will be asking for 1.5 if we have to do it again.

Please PM me and let me know how it goes with your appt and what the outcome is as time goes on! Stephanie

Thanks...will do.....

and i can understand if ivig wouldn't be offer till 3 yrs....so much is going on and hopefully the body has a better healing rate on its own

i heard that scott does more extsive testing....

I THINK i would like to try to still controll this with abx....but i don't want to waste too much time!!!!!

Since i am not geographicly close to any of these real pandas docs...i have to go with who can help with each next step....i may end up back with doc k at some point...but i want to try, to be as sure as you can possibly be with these kids..in what co-conditions i am dealing with..

DS and i are racking some sky miles!!!

and i will definitely persue a higher dose
