Sheila Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Hello everyone--This note was sent to me as a private message, rather than being posted here as I know this new user had meant to do. She has been alerted to watch for your responses. Thank you all! Sheila From MeltonJ1 "HI, This is my first time using a forum. I have a daughter who is 8 years old and is taking meds for ADHD. She has gotten a tics from one of the medicines. I am on the forum, because the tic has come back and the tics is she sniffs all the time. The only time she isn't sniffing is when she is sleeping. She is taking abilify 30 ml and clonidine .1 ml we are wanting to take her off of the meds. and start her on ( FOCUS FORMULA AND BRIGHT SPARKS ) Is anyone ever uses this product and is it safe for her to use. I am disperate and I would just like for my daughter to not take anymore of these medication that the doctor keeps putting her on everytime she has problems." From MeltonJ1
faith Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 melton, helllo and welcome, How long is your daughter on the adhd meds? do they help in any way with that? could I ask if your daughter has had any other tics before, maybe something you didn't realize was a tic, maybe eye blink or anything else when she was younger? I know some say that these meds can bring out some tics, just wondering if you may hve noticed anything in earlier years, however mild? Is the clonodine because of the tic? clonodine is supposed to be for tics.... did it help? I think a few here have tried the focus formula, sorry, I don't have any experience tho, maybe someone else does tho. Faith
Caryn Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Oh, I would get my daughter off of the meds asap. I had a student years ago that developed tardive dyskinesia from ADHD medication. I believe he was on Ritalin but that is not the only med that can cause it. If you want to read more visit: http://www.breggin.com/ Or just do a google search on tardive dyskinesia and ADHD medication. There is much info on this. There are many natural things you can do to alleviate ADHD symptoms. Cut out corn syrups, avoid artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. Cut out sugars and sweets. Try to eat fresh fruits and veggies. There are also natural supplements that can help as well. Fish oil is very good and so are B complex vitamins. But supplements will not help you if the diet is really bad.
Chemar Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Hi just catching up here after a long and busy day at work I agree with Caryn. We know a number of children who developed tics from various ADHD meds. There are a lot of natural alternatives to help manage ADHD will post more tomorrow but just wanted to stop in and say Hi
kengela Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 hi Just wanted to say hi and to let you know Im fairly new here but have found so much help here.I have never tried the medication route but have had huge improvements with diet changes-that keep changeing as I learn more, and see which things effect her most. I have recently started magneisium. Im interested to see your responses toFaiths ?s I know the more I learned the more things I realize were there since my daughter was an infant. Good luck Im sure youll find things here that will help just as much as medications, without the harmful and sometimes permanant side effects. Angela
