Panda
My son, age 8, developed tics last summer. It began as a vocal tic, and soon after, he pulled on his lips, then developed an eye twitch, and before they disappeared, it turned into a very disturbing "triple twitch" where he'd scrunch up his whole face, eyes closed, while murmuring. The tics did not disappear until well into the fall. Summertime again, and I am horrified to discover that last week two of his tics have returned. I am desperately trying to find what triggers these tics. He has been swimming in a cholrinated pool a lot this month, and last week I began giving him a new vitamin (Flintstones). I am wanting to cease the use of the pool and the Flintstones vitamins, as these are the only two things new that I can think of. If either the pool or the vitamins are to blame, how soon after cessation should we see results?

He hasn't had a tic free day in 1 1/2 years but I do know what exacerbates them. Stress, allergies, and anything with his teeth or jaw! Anyway, have you thought about environmental allergies or the chlorine itself? I keep my chlorine as low as I can in our pool but if it's higher than 2 PPM I see more tics. Flintstones vitamins have additives that I'd stay away from so you might want to find a more natural vitamin supplement for him. Try www.iherb.com for some kids vitamin/mineral supps. Good luck! mommyof2
I wanted to add on the Flinstones vitamins... i was giving my son some gummy bears with no art. flavors or colors and then one day I noticed the Flinstones with extra vit. C and got them thinking they also had no art. colors and flavors. He is on Topamax and was doing very well for months and then I started to notice after a few days of the Flinstones a body twitch... doctor thought i was thinking into things to much but i stopped and went back to the old and it stopped. He is still on the topamax but he has been showing a few vocal...not bad just a hmm sound... and tiny tics noticable to me but not others but I think this is due to the generic topamax I was using from my last order....we are now on day 4 with the reg. topamax and he is still doing the sounds....hoping within a week or 10 days they go away again. It is not even close to the way things were before we started topamax 6 months ago...but I got spoiled with how well he was doing. Mary
Chemar
it really doesn depend on the root cause of the tics if tourette syndrome, then removing a trigger may reduce tics but not necessarily take them away completely Flintstones vitamins are full of artificial stuff so big trigger potential and chlorine is known to trigger tics for many
mom2a
For my son....we usually saw improvement after an offender was taken out of his diet within 24 hours! With supplements it can take anywhere in my opinion from 24 hours to 3 months...everyone is a little different.
san70
My 8 yo son takes Rainbow Light Gummy Power Sours. They are all natural with no colors and artificial stuff. It has extra vitamin C. He loves the sour gummies. They do make regular gummies. You can get them at Whole Foods, I think. We order them from drugstore.com, I think. I could check if you are interested. CarolynN
Hello, I have noticed with my son the first 48 hours his tics are the worst. Usually by day 6 or 7 it has calmed down a lot. But we are on a lot of supplments now and so we can speed the process up a lot. Especially with the B6 and Glycine. Carolyn
