myrose
I took my daughter to the Walgreen Clinic today. She started a rash almost two days ago. Its on her tummy only and today was all over it. They checked for strep (rapid) was negative and stated that it lookd to her as a viral rash. The congestion she has and sore throat again was suugestive of allergies (after she looked into her ears, throat, and eyes. She suggested claritin tabs for relief for her. But we use SinuCleanse. I don't want her to suffer but am scared of the allergy meds as well. Lastly my biggest dilema is that we were supposed to go down to 15mg Topamax tonight..... Do you all still think its a good idea to do this with the viral rash present. Any up or down sides to this in all your opinions? What or where does a viral rash come from anyhow? I guess no one can answer this but with everyone's reading around here I am just curious if someone maybe read something in regards to viral rashes that may shed some new light on them for me. colleenrn
MyRose- Can you describe the rash? Rashes are tricky and a lot of times they are diagosed as "viral" rashes b/c the physician does not know what it is. I have been told a strep rash was viral. I just want to make sure that it is not a strep rash. Did you do a culture or just a rapid? I never ever rely on negative rapids b/c my children always have neg. rapids, but pos. cultures. faith
myrose, just curious, what is a Walgreen's clinic? is this the store? you can get strep test done there? she has a sore throat? all connected to this rash? what kind of rash, just red or bumps? nothing you think it could be that she could be allergic to? I would wait to clear this before you start weaning, because you won't know what is what then. If you had started weaning last week say, you might think this rash and symptoms had something to do with that. Faith
myrose
Walgreens (not all though) have a care clinic in them. You are seen and treated by a nurse practioner. They can prescribe the meds you need (antibitoics) and after you are done inside your prescription is waiting for you at the pharm counter. They accept most insurances as well. We pay out of the pocket and its around $70.00. Still cheaper than a sick call at a pediatrician (if you pay out the pocket anyhow) We have begun to get to know one of the ladies there very well so its nice that she has a history on my daughter (somewhat anyhow) She said if the rash did not clear or gets worse to go back in and she would not charge us. The rash is red and little bumps....somewhat like a pimple but not any white to them. When I searched the images for a viral rash it does look like that. The nurse also had a skin disease book she used as a reference and it looked like that in that book as well. No we did not do a culture. She has not got into anything new as far as food and all. I will see what happens with it. She has had rashed two other times....once after she received vacciniations (the 12 month ones) it looked just like measles...we were told that this was a normal reaction. Second was after having amoxicllin for the first time at age 4. She is believed to be allergic to penicllins now and cannot have them. I ended up (before reading replies on here) going down anyhow on her topamax. We started at 15mg lastnight. So far so good....good spirits today, has a friend over playing. Not complaining about the rash nor is it itching. I think I should have done the culture now though in regards to the strep rash thing but out of pocket is expensive. How long would a strep rash last??? Any different than a regular viral rash? I hate when I just do not know what I should do. She just has a round of azith a few weeks ago. The throat rapid came out negative then as well but I talked the doctor at the Walgreens clinic into giving it to us anyhow so I could avoid the culture. This way I felt we were covered if it was strep last time. I mention this because I also have info with rashed starting after taking antibiotics???? I am not even into this all the way yet and am already getting so overwhlemed! We are going to do allergy testing next and also the blood part of it (Igh) Next week I am doing the white plains Oat test as well to check for nutrient deficiencies (Caryn recommended this) and I like what I read about it. She stopped rubbing her eyes yesterday after I broke down and gave her two children claritin tabs, The doctor was insistent after looking at her and in her eyes, throat etc....that she indeed has allergies....this would explain the rubbing of the eyes, the sore throat thats been off and on (from post nasal drip) and of course the nasal congestion thats been starting again. I will keep posting as we stay on the 15mg for the next 5 days....also on the rash and if we end up going back in. Hopefully it will just go away so I can concentrate on the other things in regards to if the tics come back...
myrose
The rash looks different tonight....its defintely a bunch of little pimply things, they also have a white head to them. Like white headed pimples. I did not notice this yesterday. Still mostly on her chest but I noticed a few on her side and only one down on the top of her leg. 2nd night of 15mg.....Feel as though I cannot breathe much.....I am just PRAYING that things stay mild to the point in which we can handle it. myrose
Thanks Faith.... I am not sure if I should start pumping in some benefical supplements now or wait. I would like to wait and see what we are dealing with as far as severity when they return but I am so scared to cause them to come as well. I really do not like this whole thing. I never for sure what to do and what not to do. I ordered the B-complex that Caryn recommended. Guess I will start with that when I see something pop through. She is fine today again but I have no idea how long the topamax will take to get fully out of the system or at least register the lower dose. Hope things are calm over there, what supplements do you feel are the most beneficial for him? Also how do you know if its a supplement thats actually helping or just the wax and wane thing. I thought I would be better prepared emotionally for this the second time around but already feel so overwhelmed and exhausted just thinking about it all again. We start sensory therapy on Wednesday (well that day is her evaluation again anyhow) she shows no signs right now but it was really bad before the topamax so I am hoping to stay on top of it. Last time it was $300 something for the evaluation and then $350/wk for her recommended therapy time so we were only able to do half of that after awhile. She stopped when school started. It has popped through here and there but nothing big at all like it was. Does your son have sensory issues packaged with the tics?
myrose
Anyone know how long it takes a drug to leave the body? Or does it depend on what it is?? (probably I am sure) Just wondering when the topamax would be completely out of her system so I can somehow see if that is when the tics start again..... myrose
Cheri, The clinic said it was a viral rash. If it doesn't go away or gets worse they said to come back. Its still there but has not appeared worse to me. The Walgreens clinic called to check on her tonight as well. I like those nurse practioners better than most of the doctors we have seen!
