faith
Hello Melanie, sorry things are not going so good right now. Could I ask why your son is on these different medications? He is asbergers? Does he also have tourettes? sorry to ask, but when you say he is swearing, is it just that he uses bad language, or it is a repetitive word that he says over and over like a verbal tic? I mean, just because he uses language, does not necessarily mean it is a verbal tic and that he cannot control it. do you think that's what it is? what are his other tics or symptoms? I would be interested in his history since you say he is 14 now? have things always been bad, or just recently? has he had ocd issues before? this one sounds more like just being obssessed with something they are interested in, which is not uncommon for asbergers, I think? Have you ever tried any of the natural treatments such as diet restriction, supplements, removing artificial additives in foods, etc., that are discussed on these forums? sandree
Hi Melanie,"She is very complicated and has very bad sleep problems at this point. She sleeps most of the day and is up most of the night. I just tried confronting her about it again yesterday and the rage starts immediately. I know that she tried last night to go to bed earlier but I believe it still took hours for her to actually get into bed. Her OCD is now tied up with sleep somehow. She does not have seasonal allergies though at the beginning of this journey she had chronic hives for a time. Basically, she is very gifted, has asperger traits, severe OCD, sensory problems, adopted internationally premature with a two month stay in a hospital at birth - so there are many factors happening. We are seeing a functional neurologist whose outlook is that the left and right brain are not functioning correctly - in her case the left brain and left cerebellum are very weak which does impact digestion and immune function. She is supposed to be doing exercises to strengthen the left brain and cerebellum (similar to the book "Disconnected Kids") but she can't do the exercises because of the OCD. Just thinking that if antibiotics could relieve the OCD a bit, she might be able to work on the exercises to get at the real crux of the problem which I think is impaired neurological functioning due to genentics and her early infant experiences." I feel very similar to you in that everyone we go and see has a different opinion and most say this or that will help and for the most part, none of it has. We tried Zoloft for three weeks and Luvox for one day. She reacts really badly to medication so I am staying away from it. Recently she has been on a Theramood patch (5 HTP & theanine) and heavy doses of inositol. Might help a little but she is now refusing to take it. I think the serotonin does not work for her - she gets more depressed and agoraophobic on it. It is very frustrating. I will let you know if we ever get anywhere with the functional neurology. At least the book "Disconnected Kids" really describes her to a T. Now - whether the therapy will work - or if she can even do the exercises - we will see... mom2a
I would highly recommend an elimination diet to find out what his trigger's are!! That and supplements were a GREAT help to my son who has TS, OCD and Big time anxiety!!! MILK, sorry to say, is the worst....I tell all my clients...start with that!!!! After we did the elimination diet and found my son's triggers, he has been symptom free for 3 years...unless we do or give him something his body does not want! He takes NO meds, just whole organic chemical free foods, and a couple key supplements. Food chemicals effect our Tourette children and teens greatly!!! Good luck and don't give up, remember to take time for you!!
Stephanie2
Have you been on the pandas discussion board on this site? Have you checked into whether or not he has PANDAS? That's really what it sounds like to me, especially if the symptoms came on abruptly...
