bmom
Along with the dyslexia info., I am curious if handedness matters of children with PANDAS. My son has always had trouble with handwriting. He didn't even choose his hand for writing until Kindergarten. He writes with right, yet bats and things with left. My daughter is left handed. My husband is left handed and has mild tics. I noticed on a questionare that a psychiatrist was doing on Tourettes that she was talking about handedness. Could you tell me what hand your child writes with and if they had trouble deciding?
peglem
My daughter uses her right hand for writing, has very poor fine motor control and at 14 yo, still sometimes seems confused about what hand to use.

EAMom
dd is right handed. No trouble deciding. We suspect she has dsygraphia, possible dyslexia.
Toms_Mom
This is interesting to me because I read somewhere that left-handedness is common in TS. My son did the same as yours - we weren't sure for a while which hand he would write with, but he did chose his right hand. (He does have good handwriting) But he plays tennis, bats, golfs and throws with his left hand. I am left handed, as is my sister and my father. I do some things with my right hand though, and I always thought that was strange. Like for example, I cannot cut with sissors with my left hand and when I play golf- not often - I do it right handed, but I throw and play tennis with my left. My son has the chronic stuffiness also mentioned on another post for pandas. He had a sudden onset of symptoms which still makes me wonder about pandas. michele
My son took awhile to decide which hand he would use to write, cut etc. Sometimes his k teacher even noticed him switching hands, maybe he became tired. He is right handed now. He has poor fine motor control and dyspraxia and hyptonia /lack of coordination. He learned Handwriting without tears program and he is improving after a handwriting camp and OT. Along with the dyslexia info., I am curious if handedness matters of children with PANDAS. I write with my right hand, cut scissors right-handed, but I play tennis and bat left-handed. I also kick with my left foot, like in kickball. I play golf with my right hand, though, and I can eat with either hand! My ds has only shown right-handedness. Not sure if he has TS or Pandas, though. I do think he has dysgraphia and mild dyslexia just like his father. B
familyof4
My son writes and colors with his right hand but he bats, golfs, kicks, etc left. I always suspected it was because he is a thumb sucker and prefers to suck his left so it wasn't "available" when he first started scribbling and writing. I am left handed. kim
Oldest son had a hard time deciding. We thought he was going to be a lefty. Up to about age 4 he would change back and forth with coloring, eating etc. He ended up being right handed, but also shoots a bow, gun and I think golfs more like a lefter. My husband has some of those right/left interchangable traits too. Youngest son is left handed.
colleenrn
My daughter is left handed to write, but does everything else with her right hand. When she was younger she threw balls and putted left handed, but now only writes left handed. My two sons are right handed and seemed to be so from an early age. I am not sure yet about my 2 yo, but he reaches with his left hand about 25%of the time.
