Water;

Recommended Posts

I've been reading Dr.Don Colbert's books recently and he talks a LOT about how important water is and he also talks about the dangers of tap water and the organisms(toxins, etc) that can or cannot be removed.

I have a carbon filter on my fridge that we use for water but I do not have an RO system. RO removes fluoride and chlorine as well as all the other junk. The carbon filter does not remove the fluoride. What are your thoughts on water in your home and how do you treat it?

Also, he suggests getting a filter for your shower head so that you aren't showering in chlorine!

I know that the brain is 75% water but I guess I didn't realize that tea/coffee don't count as adding to our water intake since they are diuretics. My son definitely does not drink enough water. I know it's important to help flush out toxins, etc.

Do you all think your kids are drinking enough water? He said that adults should drink about 3/4 of a milk jug of water a day. I believe he said 48 oz a day. Do you make this a priority with your children daily? I know that I'm so overwhelmed with all the supplements and paying attention to the diet that I think I miss the boat on the water thing! -_-

Hi there!!

I do believe water is VERY important!!!!! If you take a look at my website www.smallchanges.info and click on the "water we drink" page you will see all the chemicals that are in our water supply. My family uses a reverse osmosis sytem for the house but it can be costly. If you can't afford to filter the whole house putting a filter on your shower is better than nothing and will take out many of the chemicals!!!!

In my family we allow our son to have 2 glasses of rice milk a day and the rest of the day he is to be drinking water. On weekends we allow him to have Rasberry zing which is a home made family favorite drink of ours.

Water is soooo important for our bodies and it allows our bodies to work at peak performance, flushing out the toxins!! The drinks today that are available to children are filled with sooo much sugar and often times many other chemicals. Chemicals effect our neurotransmitters greatly!!! I believe the less we ingest the better we function!!

Hi, My daughter suppose to drink a gallon of water a day. She doe not , and it's a arguement everyday. She does not like water. She drinks 6oz of plum juice a day. 1 or 2 propel(flavored water) bottles day.

and 16 0z of half grape juice and half water a day. That's it. Not enough water. She's 14, im constantly on her back and I hate it. Before my daughter had tics she lost her vision for 5 to 10 seconds. Which we found out was , she did not drink enough water, low blood pressure and not enough salt. She has not had that since, but year later she did get the tics. I feel water is so important. I wish I could go back in time and changed the way I did things when they where young. Well I apologize for rambling. I'm also interested in the best water to drink. Thanks Maryann

Just another question to add to yours. Is pure natural spring water ok?

I'm sure other parents who are interested in the intraKid would like to know what kinds of water is good to take with that supplement.

C.P.

Spring water is supposed to be the best water to drink. I try to buy cases of Fiji or Evian if they're on sale for us to drink. Spring water has naturally occuring trace minerals which are essential for many neurological processes in the body. I also have my ds drink electrolyte waters or Penta water as we do NOT drink Gatorade, etc.

I found a supplement for electrolyte replacement called Ultima Replenisher. It's sweetened with Stevia and my ds likes this. It's my compromise for the Gatorade. I allow him to drink this for football games or tennis, but not as an everyday drink.

Maryann

you may want to think again on PROPEL water as it contains sucralose aka splenda which can be a tic trigger as well as other probs for kids with neuro issues

We have a reverse osmosis system for drinking water and filters on showers

also use spring water for cooking, rinsing produce, etc

when my son didnt "like" plain water, he added a little organic concord grape juice, squeezed lime juice etc

Chemar, I found this,I hope it's true. I did tell my daughter she has to start deluting her propel with water . She agreed 1/3. Better than nothing , it's hard at this age.

Is sucrose syrup an artificial sweetener?

In: Individual Ingredients

ANSWER:

No. Its natural table sugar in a liquid solution with water. When parents started complaining that the number one ingredient in most breakfast cereals that their children were eating was sugar, the manufacturers started using all the other names for sugar. Sucrose, glucose, corn syrup and many more. They're all natural.

Hi, I looked up the ultima Replenisher and showed my daughter . Im going to order the berrybanna.

It's will be good for summer , I get nervous with the heat. I wanted to ask is that wrapped in foil. The doctor told her to stay away from foil. If it is , ill have to ask . Thanks for the info Maryann

Chemar your right. IT has both. It was the seventh iingredient and I missed it. I really don't know what im going to give my daughter to drink. We are constantyly arguing between taken the vitamins. The intestinal support is a drink she mixes with grape juice in the morning and night. Water, I just don't know what to do. I did get her to add 1/3 water to the propal. It's a constant fight. Thanks for the ALERT.

I don't know what propel tastes like, but maybe a tablespoon of pure maple syrup in a glass of water would be palatable for her. You could also add a dash of lemon to that too, kind of a very light lemonade..... :) ....I think I'm gonna try that for my little cactus too.

No, the Ultima is in paper packets or you can buy a large bulk container of it. Be warned that it does have citric acid and I know some parents keep their kids away from this as well. Again, I thought it was a good compromise to have around for electrolyte replenishing.

Hi Maryann

Are you looking for something to drink that just has flavor to it?

We make Rasberry zinger Celestial seasons cold tea

I heat up about 4 cups of hot filtered water

throw in 7-8 tea bags

let it sit for 5 min

pour into a one gallon container

continue filling with cold filtered water until 1 gallon container is full

You can drink just like this over ice or you can add a little turbinado sugar for sweetening. I keep the sugar low.

Celestial season's rasberry ziner is caffiene free and has no preservatives or artifical anything. My son seems to do fine with this.

I would still encourage water drinking.....children will adjust after a while....you can add a little lime or lemon to it too for flavor.

Good luck!!! Don't give up!!!

Had to COMMENT, I am a EXPERT on WATER! For once I feel like I know about something LOL!

Anyhow my daughter and I drink 8 or more 8oz bottles of water everyday. Its the only thing I gave her when she started to drink in a big girl cup as well. Water is the drink of choice at her pre-K school as well so I am lucky.

About the best water: If you are sick and trying to rid your body of disease such as cold or flu, etc you should drink PURIFIED DRINKING WATER.

For everyday drinking water you should drink NATURAL SPRING WATER. I know probably alot of you read and researched on the reverse asmoisis (not sure if I spelled that right) Its not good for everyday.

I am sorry if I am not agreeing with some of you on here but your body needs the minerals in water and purified drinking water and the reverse method I mentioned takes these out. You can end up with a mineral deficiency on top of everything else.

I chose Natural Srping Water and buy it at the store. Its the cheapest and healthiest water without loosing the minerals so that is why we go this way.

About chlorine....BAD BAD as we all know. I just ordered a shower filter for my daughter and the little ball thing that hangs on the tub spout. I figured if I was giving her the epsom salts bath to remove toxins.....it made no sense to bath her in one!

I also did this because of after her swimming in just over .5 of chlorine she had a reaction. Nothing else we did was different so I am sure it was the offender. We have a salt filter already for our pool but are looking into the ionizer to add on top of that before it comes time to swim everyday here.

My sister installed a chlorine filter on her shower a month or so back and she said the results in one week were amazing. She said her hair color stayed longer and her skin was smooth as a babies you know what. I searched and read about chlorine after my daughters reaction and could NOT BELIEVE what I read about it!!!!!!!!!!!! Take a look....do a search! I cannot believe they have to treat BAD water with something even WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more thing...my sisters daughter refused to drink water! She stopped everything but water and when Emily became thirsty enough she would have no choice but to drink it. I know that sounds cruel but if you make yourself drink or eat something you do not like you usually end up liking it and actaully craving it. I was not a big water drinker until my late 20's but now I CRAVE it and nothing else quenches my thirst like water does now. I feel I would die without it! (I was totally opposite before)
