Going to the Dentist

I am taking my son to the dentist tomorrow and needed to know if I should be worried about the laughing gas and shot they might give him when filling his cavity. This is the first time he's been since the tics started and I have no idea if he'd have a reaction to these things or not. Of course I'm going to ask what the fillings are made up of before they do any work. Does the laughing gas or shot increase kids' tics?

kalik,

When we go, I tell them I don't want any flouride treatments. She'll try to tell me that its not harmful, it is just a mineral, but I just say, (out of earshot of my son) that he has experienced some tics and I just don't want to give anything that could irritate him until I have this sorted out. My son has had cavity filled last month and the needle to numb, and all seems okay. They use some sort of resin now, don't think they use silver fillings anymore. I told my son not to swallow anything, and they have the suction thingy in the whole time. I don't think they use laughing gas anymore, do they? :( Its stressful, cause you never know, but just go in there prepared so you don't have to make an uninformed decision. Ask whatever questions you have before they do anything.

kalik,

My son has been to the dentist several times after his tic issue. Just make sure not to use silver filling and w/o flouride treatment.

No tic increase for teeth cleaning, but increase in facial tic right before filling procedures and no increase in tics after. However, the last time we went to the dentist for a filling, he had facial tics that lasted for a few weeks. I suspected that we just began CST about a month or so.
