Chemar
Deanit - some people who have tics might cause their skeletal areas to go "out" - this happened a fair bit with my son, and was concentrated around the neck area. He would then have more jerking tics there to try to alleviate it. It sounds similar to the neck cracking you describe? We found tremendous benefit from having him treated by a NUCCA chiropractor - I don't know if you have them in your country http://www.nucca.org
Deanit
Thanks fir the reply, Chemar. We have a neurological appt. on Monday and much of how we continue will depend on that…but I have considered chiropractic treatment.
Deanit
We just got back from the neurological appt specialist that I found in Belgium. He says it is now categorized as chronic tic disorder and will either away or we will meet with him in a year for the TS diagnosis. The whole thing was very disappointing on so many levels. First, I was hoping he would just say (like my pediologist) that this is nothing. Don’t worry. But he didn’t he called it out. Secondly, the meeting was very short…a few questions, then his card and basically a “have a good day.” Very little info…I mean all I know I’ve read on the internet. He was very nonchalant about the whole thing. “I’ve seen thousands of cases…and it will either go away, or it won’t.” Meanwhile my whole world is shattering beneath my feet. I just don’t know how to feel or what to do. Meanwhile, my son’s neck cracking has really ramped up in frequency, and I feel so lost.
Chemar
So sorry your appointment was not more helpful Deanit. To be honest, most people who have passed through ACN Latitudes forums have had similar experience with Neurologists - sad but true - and another reason many switch to more holistic medical practitioners who can guide them with natural treatments for tics. If you are able to get any magnesium cream, oil or lotion (or Epsom) try rubbing that into your son's neck. Even a warm solution of Epsom Salts applied via a facecloth can often help. We found it most beneficial. Also do look into the NUCCA chiropractor - we avoided anyone who was not NUCCA certified as their methods are very gentle and different. madimi
Hello I dont know if there are some people still around here! Im felt so understood for the first time reading these posts. I am going through the same thing with my son for a couple of years now where the tics wax and wane. All used to be barely noticable by others but now he started a couhgin tic that has me very upset. I also been googling Tourette for the last months and im scared for my son causse some cases really seem to make life unbearable. I'm becoming so depressed i also consider seeing a doctor for some anxietty medication. Its just so painful seeing your child not being able to control his own body. Im also scared my son can feel my hurt sometimes wich makes his tics worse. how are your children doing now? greetings Lindsey
Chemar
Hello @madimi I see you have also been in discussion with some other parents here and am so thankful you have some support and are able to express the things that are troubling you. Please try not to be scared - I know that is hard but honestly, for most, things do get better as children grow older - whether because the tics reduce, or because the person with tics learns how better to live with them. Many of us who have been here a long time can attest to how, even with Tourette Syndrome, our children have grown into productive adults. Sometimes the challenges in childhood can help to make them more caring and compassionate, as well as more determined not to let tics control who they are. Our family was greatly helped by many of the natural approaches discussed here at ACN/Latitudes, so I do encourage you to also look at the main section for some very helpful info www.latitudes.org madimi
silver77
@Deanit how are things going? My daughter continues to have tics, but I find them to be fairly mild in that they aren't distracting to her day to day life, people haven't said anything to her about them and they don't bother her. Currently she has a left eye wink, bottom lip stretch, slight stomach contraction that makes her hunch her shoulders over ever so slightly, her left big toe is constantly moving and a throat clearing/grunting sound (very hard to describe and I haven't been able to mimic the sound myself). I hope you are doing well!
