Guest
I noticed that our Whole Foods recently got coop poop in stock for an organic fertilizer. My lawn needs to be fertilized so bad as I haven't applied any type of fertilizer for the last three summers. Has anyone used chicken manure for their lawn? How well does it work? Do you have any concerns about it? If anyone has any other suggestions for organic fertilizer I'd be interested in hearing about that too, but I need something that can be bought locally and not something that has to to be shipped. kim
Carolyn, Since the bd. has me in the vaccine frame of mind again right now, the first thing that popped into my mind was tetanus. Honestly, this disease and the prevalence of it, is just not what I thought it was, and I'm not nearly as afraid of it as I used to be, but it is found in animal waste. If you decide to use it, just make sure you don't have any deep open puncture wounds that aren't bleeding I'm wondering too, if anyone has any ideas for organic ways to control dandelions???? Cum Passus
Kim, Don't know if you have a field of flowers on a couple acres of land were talking about here. But if not try pouring boiling hot water on the dandelions. It would kill the grass too, but grass pop up quickly if you sprinkle areas with seed, and cover with grass glippings. Worth a try... yah? patty
We started a vegetable garden last year, so i am very interested in knowing what kind of organic fertilizer is good. Any suggestions? As for weeds, we pull it manually. It is so hard!! Patty
Cum Passus
Patty I read once if you hard boil eggs to save the water for your garden.(full of minerals) Aquarium water is excellent fertilizer too. (what are the chances you have an aquarium?) C.P.
Laurie in Az
Try spraying white vinegar on any plants that you want to eliminate from your garden. For fertilizer,I think that composted manure should be safe. You don't want to use any fresh animal by products. People make manure tea by steeping the composted manure in water and then applying it to the garden. Another thing to do is to contact your cooperative extension or master gardener program for advice. Laurie

Not sure about your loacation but they are mainly in California http://www.armstronggarden.com/
Guest
Thanks. I didn't think about the coop poop and tetanus, but I don't have any deep open puncture wounds. I think we'll try the coop poop in a few weeks. I have used the vinegar like Laurie mentioned, and it works very well. It also kills grass so be careful where you spray it.
