orthomolecular Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Tryptophan is now available. The Vitamin Shoppe sells Doctor's Best brand in 500 mg. The ban on tryptophan is over. Tryptophan is the one amino acid that will not make it into your brain if you take with other amino acids. That is why they rcommend it on either an empty stomach or with a high carb snack. Both those forms of zinc should work fine. The monomethionine form might be the better of the two, but the citrate form is perfectly acceptable.
Chemar Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 oh...that is good news that the ban on tryptophan is over ortho! I hadn't heard that and am pleased to know that they no longer are restricting it I may well see if my husband does better on the tryptophan than the negative effect the 5HTP has on him as for my son...hmmmm...he does so well on the 5HTP that I am loathe to change anything CP, I prefer the chelated zinc
Irena Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 If my doctor insists on tryptophan I will probably try it as I read that, although 5-HTP is the form more readily used by the brain, tryptophan is metabolised also into niacin, which seems to play an important role. I also found an information that if you don't take it for a sleep issue you can take it in the morning with magnesium, B6 (P-5-P) and, as ortho said, with some carbohydrate. (any suggestion of a carbohydrate without proteins for someone with yeast issue?) http://nubrain-store.stores.yahoo.net/gensym-320.html http://www.diagnose-me.com/treat/T138573.html
