Laurie in Az Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Does excessive fatique go along with TS and ADHD? My DS is 10 and has really poor stamina. He eats well, takes lots of supps and vits and has at least 10 hrs. of sleep a night. He does take melatonin to help him sleep. He seems very healthy and seldom catches bugs and has only had antibiotics twice in his life. He currently has fairly mild tics- throat clearing, shrugging, eye rolling when fatigued. He is having a very difficult time physically keeping up in school. He is exhausted. The school itself is wonderful. It has all natural light, no bleach, or powerful cleansers, wonderful understanding teachers and students, and a very reasonable work load. Would something like blue green algae help his stamina? What about digestive enzymes or probiotics? His fatigue is becoming very limiting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Laurie
Chemar Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Hi Laurie my son has to take very low dose melatonin when he uses it (rarely nowdays) as anything higher than 300 MICROgrams at night leaves him totally fatigued and groggy next day also, you may want to ask your doc to do a haematocrit check (usually a quick fingerprick) to be sure haemoglobin is ok...just to rule out anaemia as the cause of the fatigue generally, fatigue would not be considered to be a symptom of TS altho I do know that some kids with hyperactivity get "burned out" easily especially if they have been in hyper mode maybe some of our other members will have additional input on this for you
Cum Passus Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Hi Laurie, You are a hard act to follow Chemar, but I was just wondering if the needing to have more sleep was from growth? C.P.
kim Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Laurie, Have you by any chance, had lead levels checked? We have a Mom here who found her son had high lead levels and he had extreme fatique at one point. low iron stores? As Chemar already mentioned http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...l=pubmed_docsum B12 may also be something you want to do some reading about. This book was recommended to me. http://www.amazon.com/Could-Be-B12-Epidemi...TF8&s=books You might want to search this forum for Claire's posts regarding Adrenals and thyroid function, or you can do a Google search and see if anything there seems to fit. Here's one article I just quickly pulled up http://www.thehealthierlife.co.uk/article/...ufficiency.html
Guest Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Laurie, In addition to what everyone else has said, I just wanted to add my experience as to what Kim said about lead. I have been detoxing heavy metals for over a year now. I believe from experience that just heavy metals in general can cause extreme fatique. After I got my amalgam fillings removed and started heavy metal detoxing I had such extreme fatique for a good 10 months. It was horrible. That's all getting better now that I've been detoxing heavy metals for about 18 months. I still have some times where I feel that metals are being moved around (hopefully on their way out of my body) that I feel pretty fatique. However, it's nothing compared to eight months ago. Before having my amalgam fillings removed & heavy metals detoxing I didn't have any fatique. So I do feel that heavy metals can be a large part in extreme fatique. Carolyn
Claire Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Yes, certain metals in excess can cause fatigue (and tics!). So can adrenal exhaustion, which has its own set of supplements (and rest) to correct. www.directlabs.com has an adrenal exhaustion saliva check, or your doctor can do it, or diagnostech's has one.
