Fat Cravings

Guest

Recommended Posts

I'm currently free of gluten, dairy, soy, and sugar. However, the weird cravings have started back in along with eliminating the above foods. It started with just using the gravy formed from the fat when cooking a roast and flour on meat. Now I'm craving the gravy and eating the gravy alone. Sorry if this grosses anyone out. I think I'm the queen of having strange cravings like this--the butter, peanut butter, etc.

Should I just wait it out and let it pass? It always seems to pass, but it can be several days. Eating this fat like this worries me. If it was just used on meat, it would be different. However, now that I'll eat it alone, it's worrying me.

Perhaps you're craving nutrients that you're not getting with a limited diet?

Are you finding limiting these foods helpful in any way?

Carolyn, I would agree that the cravings MAY be a way your body is trying to get things it needs...

knowing you, I am sure you are being very careful with maintaining a balanced diet while you do the elimination rotations, so this may not be a factor

I know that for both my husband and son with TS, they go thru food cravings regularly and they arent on any elimination (other than permnently off junk food and artificial additives  )

but anyway....they will suddenly get "in to" a particular food and then eat it almost non stop and then not want it again....my son's most recent one was avocadoes...he wanted mashed avocado with a little lemon juice, salt and pepper with evrything he ate. Now, he doesnt want to even see an avocado!

My husband's current one is tapioca pudding.

Once they go "off" the food, it can be weeks, months, years or never that they will want it again

So, i am wondering if your cravings are nutritional, or if they may in some way be some kind of taste bud tic LOL, or almost OCD like??

Just a thought that I often ponder myself on my guys and their cravings.

My older son without TS, and myself, dont seem to have these intense and varying food cravings

Laurensmom-It's always possible that I'm not getting enough nutrients with avoiding certain foods. I try to eat a well-balanced diet. Yes, I find limiting these foods very helpful. These are all allergy foods for me and my tics are at their best when I avoid all allergy foods. I'm also trying to clear yeast which seems to be very persistant even though I'm taking probiotics & Candex.

Chemar-I'm trying to be as careful as I can be with maintaining a balanced diet. I don't think my cravings are a taste tic or ocd, lol. When researching, I found that fat cravings can sometimes be related to calcium deficiency. I'm taking atleast 1,000 mg of calcium a day and when I have time I take an additional 500 mg like my doctor wants me to. The additional 500mg is in a powder form so I don't always feel like taking it especially when I'm really busy with things. I know that I need to try really hard to take that 500 mg of calcium on a daily basis instead of a weekly basis.

However, do you think that it's possible that when I cut out dairy, soy, sugar, and gluten products that I'm not getting enough calcium in my diet food wise compared to when I eat dairy, soy, sugar, & gluten products?

Carolyn,

I remember reading one of the DAN Dr.s saying that the "jelly" that cooks out of a beef roast is full of something? It was an amino acid.

Do you remember reading anything about that? Again, it caught my attention, because of youngest sons diet issues. I was wondering, if I could ever sneak it into a peanut butter and jelly cracker

As has been suggested, I wonder if your recent craving, could be your bodies way of trying to replenish something.

Kim,

Do you remember where you read that about what the DAN Dr. said? I don't remember reading anything about it. Please let me know if you find that info.

Maybe you're not getting enough fat. Fat is very important for our brains, skin, and many other functions. EFAs are vital--peanut butter is great. Hemp, flax, and olive oils are highly recommended as part of one's daily diet. Coconut oil is also fantastic. Coconut and hemp are my two favorites. I also love peanut butter. ;) Almonds are yummy, too!
