julia24
OK, I've been thinking about this for awhile, and since I have a cavity filling coming up, in a tooth that already has a mercury filling, I want to pursue it. I have a few questions I was hoping to get answers on. * What type of dentist should I look for? * Do I have to do them all at the same time? * Do the dentists that remove mercury fillings properly usually take insurance? * How long would I have to wait before getting pregnant again if I do this now? * If I can't get them removed at this time, are there any precautions I can take while my current dentist is working on the cavity in my mercury-filled tooth? (BTW, my current dentist is very talented with the fillings & pain elimination & "chairside" manner, but he totally thinks there is zero validity to mercury fillings causing any problems. Though, he has agreed and marked on my chart that I am to receive white fillings only.) * After dental work that involves mercury fillings, is there something I should take to help the mercury work its way out of my system? Thanks & sorry for so many questions all at once. : ) -Julie
patty
Julie, What you want is a holistic dentist. They use biochempatible materials for you. No mercury filling. Metal less tooth colored fillings, crowns and bridges. They can also help you remove mercury fillings. Most insurance accept alternative dentist. I read somewhere that mercury can leach into your blood stream from your filling. It would probably be a good idea to remove the mercury fillings before getting pregnant again. I think some alternative dentist can also help you detox. Patty
Guest
Hi Julie, I suggest looking for a dentist from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology that uses good methods when removing/replacing the fillings. These dentist can be found here: http://www.iaomt.org//findmember.cfm?newsFlip=news No, you don't have to do them all at one time. It depends on how many you have as they usually prefer only doing a few at a time. This procedure isn't covered by insurance atleast by my PPO insurance. As far as cleanings, they do take insurance, but not for mercury removal. I don't know how long you would need to wait before getting pregnant again. I'm guessing you would plan on doing some type of detoxing. I can tell you that I've been doing chelation therapy for 1 year and 3 months and I still have toxic levels of metals coming out of my body. I'm still too toxic to add Alpha-Lipoic Acid to my supplement plan which is a supplement thought to remove mercury from the brain. I wouldn't suggest using your current dentist to do these fillings and even the current filling that needs replaced. They don't follow the safety protocols that the above dentists do. I was scared when I had mine removed, but as far as pain, I had very little. We only used the numbing shot for one out of the four fillings I had removed & replaced. I left the dentist's office not even a bit numb which was awesome because the numbness annoys me. As far as after the dental work, you'll have to research and decide which option you want to use. There's many options including natural products and prescription products. There's also many different protocols which can get overwhelming. I suggest before getting the fillings removed and replaced, have a plan of action from the start to the end. This involves preparing for the removal by making sure your antioxidants are in good shape. Knowing what's going to happen before and after the removal. My dentist had me take something right before the removal (I can't think of what it's called, but it's what they have those that overdose on medications take so they'll puke) except it didn't make me puke. Decide whether your going to get a Vitamin C IV afterwards. I had a Vitamin C IV along with other minerals afterwards. Make sure you have your detox plan figured out also. I waited to start detoxing via chelation therapy until about 1 month after the removal of my fillings and by that time I was feeling sicker than ever. My legs ached like crazy, etc. So make sure you have everything planned out before you start. My current doctor for chelation told me that he wouldn't have let me wait a month after removal before starting chelation and would have had me start a chelation round a couple days before the removal. All doctors a re different and its important to have a good one when going through this. Also one other thing, for me chelation has been very beneficial, and I have no regrets. I feel it is an essential treatment for myself. However, it has not been an easy route at all. The first year was so rough with feeling sick all the time, ear infections, fatigue, achy muscles, headaches, etc. I even had mystery black specks come out my urine and fecal at various points. There's been times that I've been scared with chelation because of a rash I've develped on a couple of occasions, the fatigue, etc. My body doesn't detox very well, and I hate drinking water. Not drinking enough water can cause problems when chelating. You'll find more about my experience if you search under my user name for Chelation Update. Maybe you'll detox real easily without any of these troubles, but just make sure you're ready for this direction. I don't personally feel its safe to stop detoxing when a person has elevated levels of metals coming out. Hope this helps, and I haven't overwhelmed you too much. Let me know if you have any other questions. Carolyn
Chemar
Hi Julie I cant add much to what Carolyn has so accurately explained there, except to emphasize that: Insurances usally do NOT cover mercury filling removal and you do need to VERY CAREFULLY pick the dentist who does this as it is a very specialised procedure, and needs someone who has good experience and technique in performing it. As it is an expensive procedure, there are some who have jumped on the bandwagon who truly do not have the skills to do it! Nomatter how careful the dentist, you will have mercury entering your system when it is done and you do need to take immune boosting supps before and after, as well as to do detoxing All this needs to be carefully planned and co-ordinated with your dentist It would also be a good idea to wait some time before getting pregnant again if you are contemplating this now otherwise, wait until after. Yes, mercury fillings can leech into the system, and it is very possible that my youngest son's high mercury testing could have been from my fillings My oldest son tho did NOT have elevated mercury ( there is a 3 year age gap between them) so we are also left to wonder if my youngest got more of the mercury from vaccines?? or if more leeched from me during the pregnancy/nursing with him than the first???......... Claire
Chemar, My mercury filling removal was covered by insurance to a substantial. That surprised me. I think because they were old, so he noted them as needing replacement anyway. Also, I would not be surprised if your younger child being born later was likely a factor...after all the 90's were the peak time for vaccines with thimerisol. It is the combo of the 2 that I think did it for my son. Julie , More and more dentists do this, and there is a non-profit organization that somehow is involved. DAMS (dental amalgam mercury syndrome). I couldn't find the list, but my neighbor said they should use the DAMS method--you can ask them http://www.dams.cc/ http://www.amalgam.org/ It involves: suction filter by the mouth to pull vapors rubber dam to prevent it going into the system some use a breathing thing over your nose so you don't inhale vapors Some do IV C, mine did some liposome based antioxidants...or they will send you to a doctor that does this. He said I didn't need either because I had been supplementing antioxidants. You might wish to do the www.spectracell.com FIA 5000 test to see what your antioxidant levels are, to be able to handle the mercury removal without extra precaution...but in general I would think okay to be conservative. I had 2 crowns and to be thorough he removed them and sure enough, there was a ton of silver amalgam under them. They did it in a couple of sessions to ease the load. I felt better immediately, meaning my sleep pattern changed for the better and my energy improved once the system was complete. I have heard to wait a month to chelate afterward. I never did mercury chelation like Carolyn, just continued antioxidant supplementation. But then I still have some in my system. Even so, my symptoms (primarily sleep related) were night and day improved, so this was a major benefit. Good luck. Claire
