MamaOnAMission
Seems like when I start an antibiotic she always gets sick. I have researced a sore throat can happen with Bactrim. Seems it can be a side effect of so many drugs though. Just wondering if anyone had this happen with Bactrim???? Don't remember it happening last time I tried it. SSS
A sore throat can be a symptom of Bartonella, maybe it is die off. What are you doing for detox for daughter?
MamaOnAMission
i am afraid to add anything since she flips on EVERYTHING i give! i can get charcoal into her but i know that is not enough!!!
SSS
I don't think it is enough, and part of the flip out is trying to detox all the die off from the antibiotics/infections. I know, because I see it with my daughter, too. Sometimes, more important than trying to find the magic antibiotic combo, is the detox/capability of what she is on. Can you get homeopathic remedies in her? The 'Pekana Big 3' drainage remedies. The herbal tinctures Burbur and Parsley from Nutrimedix. Liver support is critical: Milk thistle, Xymogen MedCaps DPO, Liverlife tincture, etc. Magnesium supplements can be calming. It sounds like she needs tremendous support. I know there have been gut issues in the past with her, too- Are you getting probiotics in? Making sure the bowels move enough to get the crud out. MamaOnAMission
I tried probiotics 5 times and each time she was too out of control. It was not good. I hear others that can't handle probiotics. I will try one of the other things you mentioned. Thanks!
MamaOnAMission
S&S - what in your opinion is the most gentle detox? Also, how come LLMD never talks about detox??? :0(
SSS
Your LLMD should talk about detox. It's 50% of the deal. When you kill these infections, they release neurotoxins, which makes one very sick. And the liver and gut will blow out from the harsh drugs and die off unless they are supported. It depends one what your daughter is willing to swallow and take. And if she is not willing, you will have to make her, or use all pills for detox. My daughter, since we've been at this a long time (bio-med, not necessarily Lyme treatment) is used to taking an oral syringe of 'stuff' like homeopathic drainage remedies mixed in a little water, or some herbal tinctures mixed in a little water. Can you get your daughter to do that? Or drink down a little shot glass w/ this stuff in it, with a regular drink chaser? And about the probiotics, let me be blunt: I don't know how you can give her antibiotics without giving her quality probiotics (at least 2 hours away from antibiotics) I know your daughter has had c. diff. gut infection in the past- you are playing Russian roulette not taking care of her gut- Nasty bacterial gut infections that will flourish by not replacing good bacteria (probiotics) that the antibiotics are wiping out, these gut infections, will cause some of the worst behavior ever seen, Lyme and Bartonella nonwithstanding. So, my feedback, from being here with you on the board- your daughter needs detox. You need to work on and fix her gut, too. I think doing these things, helping her clear out, will help the behaviors. Sorry if I am being too blunt. Just trying to help, I care.
MamaOnAMission
I don't mind you being blunt at all. I know you care....but I just have to kind of paint the picture a bit better. All of the doctors have said the same thing to me until I video tape what happens to her on some of this stuff, and they tell me to discontinue these things. Probiotics being one of the worst. I don't even want to write down what happens to her on the board. And this wierd reaction NEVER STOPS. We don't know why this happens on everyting we try. I keep trying and trying and I will try again. She screams her head off and can't catch her breath when we give motrin. It is a living ###### and nobody can tell us why her little body can not even take a 1/2 motrin. If I give 1 mg. of melatonin to close to tylenol it is like an explosion goes off in her head and she starts to hiss and her face contorts. Believe me I never give up trying and searching and pleading for help!! I am better off with pills at this point. I have given her all kinds of concoctions for 12 years and she was a trooper but is done now. Pills are my best bet. What do you suggest? as far as pills for detox? SSS
**whoosh**. Well, goodness. I've never heard of 1/2 Motrin having that reaction in any kid. Honestly, I don't know what to advise for products- I don't feel comfortable in this case. But I just can't help but feel her foundation needs fixing first- like her diet and gut. Have you ever worked with a DAN! (Defeat Autism Now) type of Doctor? This is what they do- run MTHFR tests (genetic mutations for inability to detox well) food allergy and intolerance test panels, yeast, bacteria in gut, and slowly work to heal from the ground up, with correct supplements picked for her by the Dr. Is your current LLMD checking her liver? MamaOnAMission
Sooo many tests were done. Alcat, Eliza etc.....(tons of tests and specialists - but not a Dan Dr.) worked on diet and gut. She stuck with diets like a trooper. She's amazing! Doctor thinks once we get lyme/bart. under control that she will begin to tolerate some meds. and supplements and I think he is right because I am having some success the last week. THANK GOD! She is currently on the Bacrtim and Doryx and showing lots of improvement!!! During the day the hallucinations are less. Agitation and OCD much better. Sleep is still not good. Bug eyes till 3am. On the Bactrim and Minocycline sleep was better - but during the day she was "stuck" in her world with lots of OCD and distorted thinking. Not sure what LLMD will do. I wonder if you can add some Mino. to the bactrim and doryx?????

rowingmom
S&S - what in your opinion is the most gentle detox? Also, how come LLMD never talks about detox??? :0( Our LLMD doesn't talk about detox either. She gave us some homeopathic liver/brain/kidney detox remedies to use but didn't go into detoxing any further. This forum has a wealth of information and I found some other things on my own - lemon juice in water - lemonade (sweetened with stevia), epsom salt baths (if DD11 is flipping out I send her for a bath with her dollies and she is much calmer afterwards). DD11 also takes 1 tsp metamucil (psyllium husk) daily in water to keep her bowels moving.
SSS
I still think probiotics are necessary, especially with her history of c. diff. infection. I like CP1 from Custom Probiotics, it is a pill. Also, I think some liver support is important, like a capsule of milk thistle. Epsom salt baths before bed used to make sleeping at night much easier for my dd for a long time.

I remember you mentioning that your dd reacts to probiotics, maybe you could start out really small - one probiotic pearl (drugstore) every other day or every third day. Then try to increase or switch to a better brand. S&S (or anyone)- what do you recommend for liver support besides milk thistle? My dd reacted to milk thistle so I stopped. My daughter's LFT's are back in the normal range (happy about that), but unfortunately, her sed rate is climbing back up.
SSS
Maybe the reaction to milk thistle was toxins being displaced? Liverlife by Bioray Xymogen DPO medcaps are excellent products, but also contain some milk thistle. Other separate things to help liver: Glutathione ALA NAC
