Has anyone's child experienced nausea, upset stomach, or vomiting (esp. wondering about this one) as a side effect from Nystatin. LLMD prescribed it for a month (500,000 unit bid) for Dd 11.

Also, can you take Nystatin with antibiotics? Just not with probiotics - how long should it be spaced away from probiotics?

thx

Here is an interesting article comparing probiotics to nystatin Treatment with probiotics in experimental oral colonization by Candida albicans in murine model (DBA/2).

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22059932

Seems to me they can be used close together. I wonder if there might be a synergistic effect?

My whole family takes Nystatin 500000 4 tabs/daily. We take it at night so if there's stomach upset we sleep through it. Your son might have an adjustment period with it. Try backing off the dose and work up to the max dose slowly.

Should I stop Florastor (Sach Boulardi) altogether while on Nystatin, since it's a good yeast?? I will space other probiotics 2 hours apart. thx

Nystatin will kill Sach Boulardi so if you give both they need to be seperated. Our LLMD actually took Aidan off of Nystatin and put him on Sach Boulardi. But is should be OK to take Nystatin with antibiotcs or with probiotics that consists of good bacteris (but not yeast like Sach Boulardi).

Thanks for the replies. Our pharmacist said to discontinue the Florastor while on the Nystatin since she is on other probiotics. Florastor's website says not to take with antifungals. They don't clarify if they mean separated, or not at all. Our LLMD's office said to continue with the Florastor but away from Nystatin. I just hope the office actually asked the doctor about Florastor specifically, and not probiotics in general.

I think I will stop the Florastor for now. I'm always concerned about c-diff since my daughter had it in the past, prior to lyme treatment.

btw- I should mentioned that my daughter's stool sample is positive for sacchromyces cervasiae- not candida.
