Suzan Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Right now she has a very itchy rash on her back. It spans her entire back but there are bands that don't have it so it makes me wonder if it's circular. It is fine and slightly raised. She's needed benadryl every 4 hours for the itch. I am assuming this is a herx but should I be doing anything else? Does she need to be seen by a doctor? Our regular doc won't have anything to say about it except wait it out. The doc treating her lyme right now is not an LLMD but he is knowledgable but also hard to get in touch with. I think I will need to transfer her care over to my LLMD for situations like this. Susan

Susan Maybe try some benadryl cream on the rash. It will be difficult since it spans the entire back, but it did help clear the few that popped out when I was on doxy. It might be wise to snap a picture (no flash) and forward to the llmd. Edited April 11, 2011 by philamom
pixiesmommy Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 sandpaper rash can be strep or candida too
aidansmom Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 We had what I had thought was a rash here too last week. It was by his shoulder blade, oval shaped about 2 inches by 1 inch. His was a lot of red raised bumps and one bump toward the center seemed darker red and more prominent. My husband commented that it looked like a rug burn. But I could not think of how he would have gotten a rug burn near his shoulder blade and dh didn't offer any explanation. I took a picture to try to document and took him to the ped. (not necessarily Lyme literate) to see what she would say. I thought it could be something besides Lyme and I thought having her look at it would further document it. She also thought it looked like a rug burn. IN further talking to my husband after taking Aidan to the doctor he said that Aidan and his brother had been wrestling - but he couldn't remember when for sure. (doesn't remember details they could of wrestled the day before or the week before and he wouldn't remember the specifics). Also, I wasn't there to bathe him the night before the night I had spotted the rash and of course DH doesn't look him over like I do so I couldn't say for sure if it was there or not the day before - makes narrowing the source down (if it is a rug burn) difficult So, I don't know for sure if it was a rash or a rug burn. Aidan is not really verbal and may not indicate if it is itchy. At this point the color is fading but it is still rough to the touch now. I am a little embarrassed if it is a rub burn! Does a rash like this sound familiar to anyone?
momaine Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Since starting Lyme treatment, my dd gets lyme rashes regularly. They dont' itch though and they are not raised. They don't last long either, maybe ten minutes tops. They come out when she is in a hot shower (and now she rubs epsom salts on her body to help it come out) and they vary in color. MOstly red dots, all conncted but three times she's had purple legs (bruised color) with white spots with red centers. Today while she was at school she texted me a pic of her hand and it had a white circle with a red spot in the middle and she asked if it was a lyme rash. I said it looked like one and she said she gets them on her hands regularly now. We're doing more for detox now that we started out and I'm wondering if that is helping the toxins to exit through her skin more frequently?

Suzan Posted April 13, 2011 Author Report Posted April 13, 2011 Her back is almost better but now she has a bumpy, itchy rash on her left arm. She got in trouble for hitting, kicking and biting at school today. She's falling apart, crying that the dog will die someday, completely inflexible and needing to have her way. I'm going to school tomorrow if the counselor is there to talk about her 504 plan and to see if there is any strep at school. This is her second offense of breaking school code of conduct. I'm not sure how many she can get without being suspended. She's on so much medication. I don't know how I can tell if it's lyme or candida or her seizure meds causing any of this. She takes one threelac a day for candida, caprylic acid, 1 tsp swish and swallow of nystatin daily and a diflucan one time a week. Maybe I need to be doing more for yeast. Also on (none of it is new): Depakote (seizure meds) Zithromax 250 mg 3xweek Amoxicilin 1500 mg daily Flagyl (2x a month) Allegra daily Susan
